John, I think I left this tip for insect control on your channel once before. It works great for most little sucking bugs like aphids, thrips, white flies, mealy bugs, etc. For over 35 years I have used Full Strength, Whole Milk in a pump pressurized garden sprayer. The lactose in the milk plugs up the breathing apparatus which is located in their feet / legs and suffocates them. Safe, natural, non-toxic, inexpensive, and just wash it off after the critters are dead.
My question is which is che as per at the moment? However, even if it is cheaper to buy the Dr. Z, plastic is a big deal in our oceans and I can get milk locally and avoid plastic bottles that are only recycled a fee times. I'd pay more for Dr. Z's if it came in glass and was still cheaper than milk.
@@donnaz1961 I usually try to spray early in the day when it is not so hot. I will wait a day or two and use a strong water spray from my garden hose, spray off the dead insect bodies and milk residue and watch for them to re-appear in a couple days, repeat as needed.
I grow my chives, onions, garlic and leeks around the perimeter of my garden. It does wonders for keeping bugs out. Also, around plants that are more susceptible, grow oregano, sage and other herbs inter-planted among them. Works for me as I haven't had aphids in years since applying these methods. .
Feed egg shells ( after washed and then sterilized in an oven at 375 degrees for 10 minutes). The worms make amino acid chelated minerals out of metals. They also make an enzyme called chitinase which eats the exoskeletons of aphids. Aphids fly the other way from chitinase.

I have used this product & it works great but you have to spray thoroughly & repeat a few times, at least, for outbreaks. Weekly preventative sprays work best! Then no more outbreaks!
I got a bottle of Calcium sulphate from the garden store for fungal issues on fruit trees. It's supposed to kill aphids, too. That's because it's basically a lime-sulphur application, and while not on the label, the same strength compound has been used as a soil ammendment for calcium and sulphur. It can also boost acidity, although it metabolises out from studies I've seen. This use as a fertilizer was particularly convenient, as I've seen planting your potatoes in sulphur was a good idea, and I'm just putting them down.

Having been a military family and grown gardens all over the world, I can state that as fact. True, it’s expensive but when you invest several hundreds on other products that work in other areas but, just don’t here, it’s wonderful to learn from you.
I like the "regular" neem oil and salsuds still... I also make a pepper spray...aphids, ants...cant stand it. But the neem and salsuds into that same Hudson fogger you two guys used a few years back...that thing is awesome on everything including powdery mildew..

OhioGardener - I hope you can answer my question. When I've sprayed 3 days in a row, or even two days in a row, sometimes my soil grows the white fungus. Is that just a coincidence because my plant has other problems? Is it normal to spray 3 times and not see fungus? It seems rare for me.
A tip for rose from owner of long time nursery (retired now)in Tuscon az. He said just spray every morning with water. I think the morning part important to allow plant to dry before night fall which would encourage mildew or fungus. They grew beautiful roses. Many other plants as well.
Had spider mites on my Bonsai. You may wanna try soaking natural organic tobacco 1 cup, in a gallon of water for a couple of days, and use a spray bottle to apply. works great.

I used Neem, indoors for spider mites, root gnats and white flies. Saw a video from guy in India, who said to add 1 tsp baking soda to 1 qt Neem solution for eradication, not just control. I tried it and it really works. I use about once or twice a week with no detrimental effect. I haven't tried on aphids yet, but will this spring.
A sprayer called The Atomic Mister has given me years of service. You can easily adjust the volume of product in the fog and it's great for foliar applications under the leaf, right into the stomata.
I read most of the comments looks like most people are Household gardeners I'm a Legal cannabis Gardener from California and this product is fantastic I had powdery mildew Several weeks before harvest indoor this winter & i sprayed on my plants And powdery mildew disappeared Also using as preventative maintenance For spider mites currently outside
I am amazed at many people here who think that aphids need pesticide to eliminate. You can easily remove them with a strong water shower from your hose. Or if you are not squeamish, squeeze them dead.

Guava trees are my problem, they attract alot of whiteflies and aphids. I have had success reducing their numbers by spraying the underleaf in peppermint and thyme oil mixed with water. Great videos -Evan

John I would like to let you know I am a beekeeper and I use Dr. zymes as well but you have to spray at night when the bees and all that beneficial bugs are home resting spray after doc I’m concerned about my bees all the time because sometimes one or two might get out even after dark but for the most part the queen is up and so on most of the bees
if you let your ladybugs out after dark and water first they will usually stick around plus you could put flowing row cover over the top of plants pin it in let the ladybugs go under the flowingrow cover keeping them there to eat the aphids

Citrus Enzyme spray This stuff worked better than anything else I tried and it was really cheap to make. I don’t think the yeast will show up as a microbial when the weed is tested but you’d better check with someone who knows more than me about it. I re-read the recipe for citrus enzyme and decided that I really didn't follow it well as I needed a lot more of it than the recipe called for so here's what I did and it worked great. It smells exactly like Dr. Zymes. * (16 lemons and 6 oranges made about a gallon.) Blender loosely full of lemon and orange peals. * Fill 3/4 with water *Add tablespoon of active dry yeast (regular bread yeast) *Add 1/4 cup brown sugar per blender full. Blend until the peals get kinda pukey looking Repeat until you're out of orange and lemon peals dumping the blended junk in a large glass container. Should be about 1/3 ground up lemons and 2/3 water + -. Loosely cover and apply tape with a date two weeks from now Stir daily, leave cover on loosely Strain through progressively finer screens until your down to coffee filter (I bought a "cold brew coffee apparatus, had a nice fine screen about $8) This stuff should smell kinda lemony, certainly doesn’t smell bad. Add 1 cup Apple cider vinegar per quart of “juice” to kill the yeast Mix one cup enzyme juice per gallon with water, spray every day for 3 days. I couldn't find a living bug no matter how hard I looked under the microscope on previously heavily infested plants. The plants seemed to like the fermented juice as foliar fertilizer too. Use fermented peal waste as a top dress around plants. The ferment ended up a clear/amber color with a ½" of cloudy stuff on the bottom of the jars I stored it in. This cloudy stuff went right through the atomizer with no problem.
everyone misses that. im waiting for my water to cool down to 90 rightnow lol. i got fungus gnats. gonna zymes them for 3 days then let the rootzone dry completly out and hit them with azomax, done deal.
Great suggestion, thanks John. I'm growing here in Vegas as well and fungus gnats have started flying around my little seedlings I have inside. The cinnamon helps and so does the acv traps but I want something stronger on hand just in case until I plant them outside.
I have found sterilizing my medium cuts back dramatically I have big problems with them too where I am. Dampen soil with boiling water instead of regular water until thoroughly dampened and allow to cool, it helps a lot kill their eggs in the seed medium and also cuts back on fungus like dampen off

From Lil Giant I seem to be allergic to almost every soap on the planet. My family used the ORIGINAL Palmolive hard-milled soap for years until it was a “new and improved” softer bar that also contained lanolin. My main effort right now is to just switch off brands so I can switch off symptoms. Cannot use ANY deodorant bars. Do better with hard milled soaps. Plain Ivory soap makes me feel like I applied a shrinking, ever tightening plastic bag on my skin. Needless to say, very frustrating. Specialty soaps-“non-soap” are too expensive. Found a product called Yardley London-Oatmeal & Almond that was not too bad, but can no longer locate it. You are referring to something called black soap. Does that require an online purchase? (I hate online.) What is it? Thanks in advance.
I just typed where are all the lady bugs and you said you could release lady bugs. Lol. I rarely have had luck with organic pesticide. High pressure water seems to work the best. I released lady bugs in a green house and they still didn’t work. You need to breed them in your greenhouse to get them to work. A very little soap in late evening with the high pressure water works pretty good. The next day it will just rinse off. It’s safe enough to bath in so I’m confident it won’t hurt anything.
If I was to alternate Dr Z with another foliar weekly, would they possibly react negatively with each other? Or in your experience, is it even necessary to use other products? Is one week enough time to not worry? Also they say to use with warm water. Is that key with the good doctor?

What sort of safety testing has been done on this substance or the active ingredients. For decades glyphosate was also believed to dissipate harmlessly.

I used this on my cannabis plants and it caused phtotoxicity. It works but damn its strong. It works on aphids. I applied at night. This stuff isnt new. I used it last year. Another product im waiting on is wizards brew. All organic too.
I've been using coffee. Seriously. diluted coffee in a spray bottle. Got rid of aphids over night! Suppose to be good for beetles, spider mites, etc. My plants have had no ill effects from it either. I use equal amounts of brewed coffee and water.
I have used Captain Jacks deadbug with great success, I was looking into Doctor Zymes but I don't think it matches with Deadbug. It would be nice if you could do a comparison video between the both. I think Captain Jacks Deadbug is the better product

Slick Milligan This is a great question it’s recommended to use in planting holes /in soil and as drenches for undesirable pests and molds/fungus, but does it kill mycos? Beneficial? It will harm bees so they say to spray when they are inactive (which they are in evening) But I have the same question precisely. Hi john Im A new learning gardener here in Central Florida. Im trying to grow in container and keep most in my screened in pool deck mostly full sun. To help me with pest and little critters from eating my plants. I don't know what bugs are good bugs for my environment so I'm nervous when I see any activity in my pool screened area at all. Hmmmm.. that’s good to know then how did you control this? Mine is in flower for the first time this year (and its LOADED with flowers right now). This will be my first time having fruit on this- it’s a 3 year old 3foot bush now I grew from a rooted branch!

John I would like to let you know I am a beekeeper and I use Dr. zymes as well but you have to spray at night when the bees and all that beneficial bugs are home resting spray after doc I’m concerned about my bees all the time because sometimes one or two might get out even after dark but for the most part the queen is up and so on most of the bees
if you let your ladybugs out after dark and water first they will usually stick around plus you could put flowing row cover over the top of plants pin it in let the ladybugs go under the flowingrow cover keeping them there to eat the aphids
Hello. I love the video. I'm an agronomist from Nigeria. I currently have problems controlling thrips on my pepper farm. The problems of thrips has been a major problem for close to a year and has destroyed many farms around here. Some of the pesticides that we have used include sphinozard, tihan, neem oil, biotrine, and many others.

Citrus Enzyme spray
This stuff worked better than anything else I tried and it was really cheap to make. I don’t think the yeast will show up as a microbial when the weed is tested but you’d better check with someone who knows more than me about it.
I re-read the recipe for citrus enzyme and decided that I really didn't follow it well as I needed a lot more of it than the recipe called for so here's what I did and it worked great. It smells exactly like Dr. Zymes.
* (16 lemons and 6 oranges made about a gallon.)
Blender loosely full of lemon and orange peals.
* Fill 3/4 with water
*Add tablespoon of active dry yeast (regular bread yeast)
*Add 1/4 cup brown sugar per blender full.
Blend until the peals get kinda pukey looking
Repeat until you're out of orange and lemon peals dumping the blended junk in a large glass container. Should be about 1/3 ground up lemons and 2/3 water + -.
Loosely cover and apply tape with a date two weeks from now
Stir daily, leave cover on loosely
Strain through progressively finer screens until your down to coffee filter (I bought a "cold brew coffee apparatus, had a nice fine screen about $8)
This stuff should smell kinda lemony, certainly doesn’t smell bad.
Add 1 cup Apple cider vinegar per quart of “juice” to kill the yeast
Mix one cup enzyme juice per gallon with water, spray every day for 3 days.
I couldn't find a living bug no matter how hard I looked under the microscope on previously heavily infested plants. The plants seemed to like the fermented juice as foliar fertilizer too.
Use fermented peal waste as a top dress around plants.
The ferment ended up a clear/amber color with a ½" of cloudy stuff on the bottom of the jars I stored it in. This cloudy stuff went right through the atomizer with no problem.

Heat your water to 90 degrees then add Dr. Zymes...It helps activate the Dr. Zymes
everyone misses that. im waiting for my water to cool down to 90 rightnow lol. i got fungus gnats. gonna zymes them for 3 days then let the rootzone dry completly out and hit them with azomax, done deal.

Great suggestion, thanks John. I'm growing here in Vegas as well and fungus gnats have started flying around my little seedlings I have inside. The cinnamon helps and so does the acv traps but I want something stronger on hand just in case until I plant them outside.
I have found sterilizing my medium cuts back dramatically I have big problems with them too where I am. Dampen soil with boiling water instead of regular water until thoroughly dampened and allow to cool, it helps a lot kill their eggs in the seed medium and also cuts back on fungus like dampen off
@@moniquegebeline4350 yes, boiling hot water does help. I did that too before sowing my seeds, but a few gnats still find there way in 😒😢

From Lil Giant I seem to be allergic to almost every soap on the planet. My family used the ORIGINAL Palmolive hard-milled soap for years until it was a “new and improved” softer bar that also contained lanolin. My main effort right now is to just switch off brands so I can switch off symptoms. Cannot use ANY deodorant bars. Do better with hard milled soaps. Plain Ivory soap makes me feel like I applied a shrinking, ever tightening plastic bag on my skin. Needless to say, very frustrating. Specialty soaps-“non-soap” are too expensive. Found a product called Yardley London-Oatmeal & Almond that was not too bad, but can no longer locate it. You are referring to something called black soap. Does that require an online purchase? (I hate online.) What is it? Thanks in advance.

I just typed where are all the lady bugs and you said you could release lady bugs. Lol. I rarely have had luck with organic pesticide. High pressure water seems to work the best. I released lady bugs in a green house and they still didn’t work. You need to breed them in your greenhouse to get them to work. A very little soap in late evening with the high pressure water works pretty good. The next day it will just rinse off. It’s safe enough to bath in so I’m confident it won’t hurt anything.
If I was to alternate Dr Z with another foliar weekly, would they possibly react negatively with each other? Or in your experience, is it even necessary to use other products? Is one week enough time to not worry?
Also they say to use with warm water. Is that key with the good doctor?

What sort of safety testing has been done on this substance or the active ingredients. For decades glyphosate was also believed to dissipate harmlessly.

I used this on my cannabis plants and it caused phtotoxicity. It works but damn its strong. It works on aphids. I applied at night. This stuff isnt new. I used it last year. Another product im waiting on is wizards brew. All organic too.
I've been using coffee. Seriously. diluted coffee in a spray bottle. Got rid of aphids over night! Suppose to be good for beetles, spider mites, etc. My plants have had no ill effects from it either. I use equal amounts of brewed coffee and water.
I have used Captain Jacks deadbug with great success, I was looking into Doctor Zymes but I don't think it matches with Deadbug. It would be nice if you could do a comparison video between the both. I think Captain Jacks Deadbug is the better product
Captain Jack's Deadbug for aphids? That's not a pest listed on the label. From what I recall Spinosad won't touch aphids. But I could be wrong.

This is a great question it’s recommended to use in planting holes /in soil and as drenches for undesirable pests and molds/fungus, but does it kill mycos? Beneficial? It will harm bees so they say to spray when they are inactive (which they are in evening)
But I have the same question precisely. I don’t want to jump hoops to build myco symbiosis only to have to destroyed on me in one application lol

However this year we are doing a home orchard and I know It won’t be as easy with fruit trees, what do you recommend? Is there a schedule to use with horticultural oil like neem? I’m most concerned with fungal issues in my area (9a/coastal MS) which is very high in humidity.

Hort oil in the dormant season for starters, smothers overwintering eggs. It's cheap and makes the bark look all polished.

Hi john Im A new learning gardener here in Central Florida. Im trying to grow in container and keep most in my screened in pool deck mostly full sun.
To help me with pest and little critters from eating my plants. I don't know what bugs are good bugs for my environment so I'm nervous when I see any activity in my pool screened area at all. With all that said I woke up to finding spiders webbing all over them not sure if they are black widows and black ants all over . Why "no surfactant" ? What would be so deleterious about having any leftover surfactant such as aloe, yucca or Transport in the container ?
Dude the active ingredient was only like 3% so the other 97% is surfactants etc.
