I don't understand appeal of US airlines to join forces with others. You guys have such specific and enormous market and only advantage is I guess miles if u fly overseas often.
Jan Šebek That can be explainedof two words : Feeder Flights. Let’s say someone needs to get from Austin, Texas, to Stuttgart, Germany. You purchase a ticket from Austin, which gets you from Austin to Houston, then after you arrive at Frankfurt, you get a connecting flight to Stuttgart , where Lufthansa flies you from Frankfurt to Stuttgart you collect points under the United Airlines frequent flyer scheme for all the flights. Lufthansa makes a small profit on the flight as well. Also, if a US flight gets delayed or cancelled flying out of Frankfurt to Houston, you can be put on a Lufthansa flight back to the USA, but via a different route to get you back home to Austin, Texas. They will connect you to Austin via a destination that Lufthansa flies to (like Denver for example).
@@paulsz6194 I guess that makes sense for US market, flights there even to smaller airports are vital. For european, you just hop onto EuroCity train from Stuttgart to Frankfurt since Europe is much more tightly packed and public transport more present. But then again, American are usually initiators of these alliances and serving domestic market mainly...makes sense, thanks.
When I made my frequent flyer status with Air Canada - it changed how I travel! Then, Star Alliance made that even better by welcoming me on flights with LOT, Air New Zealand, United, Aegean, TAP, Lufthansa, and SAS as if I was one of their own!
Canada EhXplained welcome to the Family, Frequenterflyer. we have upgraded your flight today 🙂! Regular flyer: hello, you’re down the back, last row. 😒
All the alliances have their positives and negatives. However if I could choose only one I'd pick Star Alliance as it has the best overall coverage. Oneworld is fantastic for transatlantic and trans-pacific though and Skyteam is really useful for inter Asian flights and from Europe to Africa.
I wouldn't say so. It is really up to condition. For me SkyTeam wax the best for flights only within Europe but if I fly one day to America (South or North) SkyTeam will be cheapest, highest quality and I will earn miles and XPs. For my potential 2022 and 2023 trips SkyTeam is also the best (unless Low-Cost services will be more than 20% cheaper with luggage).

Windy blower it’s the same outcome just reversed. The passenger might fly with AF to an international airport, but from there have a feeder flight to a secondary airport.
My favorite airline alliance is Star Alliance, because it serves the best in Switzerland, with Swiss and Lufthansa, and to Australia over Singapore... I also feel like star alliance is maybe the alliance with some of the best airlines, such as Singapore airlines.
The best alliance ticket I ever bought included Qantas, Japan Airlines, British Airlines, and Malaysia Airlines. It also included an out of alliance connection to Air Serbia.
My favorite alliance would be Star Alliance; however if I were to have my own airline, I wouldn't join any of the major 3 alliances, but I would create a joint venture with a major airline:) Thanks for the video!
Danny Mwiine that’s what Emirates has done with Qantas, which wasn’t mentioned here. You can book QF flights to Dubai (and beyond) flying Emirates and collecting Qantas Frequent flyer points. Qantas no longer flies to London via Dubai, only via Singapore.

The Alliance Airlines have their own respective terminals at Heathrow:star alliance terminal 2 and skyteam terminal 4, also one world terminal 5 the rest is a bit mixed, as a fairly frequent traveller it does help a little to know wich airlines use wich terninal esp in Heathrows case.
Yea same at CDG Paris, Air France and SKYTEAM are at 2E/F and Star Alliance at T1 and One World at T2A but they do have so exceptions, Air Canada is at 2A while Qatar is at T1
One of the reasons budget airlines in southeast Asia requires separate check ins are due to differing check-in procedures. They cut cost wherever possible; some uses barcodes in app, some use pre printed boarding passes where the gate agent scribbles on your name and other info, some print their boarding pass on receipt sized thermal rolls, some shorten their luggage tag by half, some even use serialized tags like tickets(pre printed tags bearing airport code, they tear of the tab, hands it over, the luggage tag has matching serial numbers)
As a Canadian, you’d think It for Star Alliance, but I’m actually a fan of SkyTeam because I’m of European descent. I have flown Delta, Air France and KLM multiple times and always had great experiences. This added to the fact that I travel to Europe and the States fairly often.
I mostly fly with Aeromexico from Chicago to Mexico City and back to Chicago almost every year. I really do miss Mexicana Airlines since our flew on it from 1991 until 2010 and I really miss Mexicana when it was with Star Alliance. I really do love Star Alliance and Skyteam because they really cover the US, Canada and Mexico
Here's hoping WestJet joins OneWorld at some point in the future, as that alliance has been sorely lacking a Canadian partner since Canadian Airlines merged with Air Canada. My personal preference for alliances is *A, though I have flown with all three.
I think after the HUGE deal that Westjet signed with Atlanta's Airline, I think if it would join an International Legacy Alliance it would be with Sky Team, they already code share with AirFrance KLM Alitalia and Delta! BA ended the code share agreement

I fly once a year from FRA to MNL and i'am Star Alliance Member but my flight is FRA-HKG with LH and HKG-MNL with CX. Return with PAL via BKK and TG to FRA

The thing I don't like about these alliances is that you don't necessarily know which airline will actually fly you. Turkish Airlines itself flies to 121 countries and is the airline that flies to most countries. Air France is second in that list with 91 countries, while British Airways is third with 82. TK, being partly owned by the state flies to almost every African country, not making much money in the process but being very important in connecting Turkey to African market. I think this might explain the high number of countries Star Alliance flies to, rather than its high number of members, while Skyteam carries more passengers annually.
