    Before anyone accuses me of speeding down the towpath, for the avoidance of doubt, that is nowhere near actual speed - I'm not super human!
    Sadly had to stop at Altrincham, as apparently Covid doesn't cross county borders!

    Excellent Jen, great to see how much used it is, we did it on foot from Piccadilly station to Altrincham 18 months ago, it is a lovely route.

    The trend tends to be 8-bit style music for cycling videos and then the other ones for driving videos.

    Well have a subscribe for that, really rather fun to see one of my walking routes on TH-cam.

    Looks much more relaxed from the Marina onwards (until about Altrincham). Otherwise looks crowded and narrow, but it might be the sped-up footage itself.

    great video, what's the distance in miles please from Altrincham to Manchester castlefield, please in miles, on the canal? tia

    Great video! Is this the path some people use as an excuse for removing the cycle lane on the A56? It's clearly not suitable for mass cycling!

    • @JenOnTheMove
      @JenOnTheMove  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The very same path! It's fine for a leisurely pootle down, but if I needed to commute that direction I'd be on the A56 every day.

    Looks awfully narrow and dangerous for my liking...Think I'll stick to Silk Road in Macclesfield. Great video though!

      Seemingly gets better the further out of the city you get though. I have gone via the canal from Altrincham to a United game a few times in the past and it's honestly a really pleasant route. If you're wanting to go into the city centre, might make more sense to go onto Talbot Road instead of going the whole way in via the canals? Can't test this theory out until the next time I'm in Manchester, mind, not sure if there's a good connection.

    Just goes to show why this isn't a viable alternative to a proper segregated cycle lane on the A56. There are far too many barriers and pedestrians to make this a viable commuter cycling route between Manchester & Altrincham.

    Yah you are back. I like your videos. Never been to Manchester but I would like to go there once the lockdown has been lifted. Manchester is such a good place to visit.

    • @northcountrygirl1980
      @northcountrygirl1980 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah, as someone who's Manchester born and bred it's an absolute high rise hell hole nowadays. Full of southern toffs, junkies, weirdos and students. You never hear local accents anymore. Manchester council have decimated the city centre since the late 90s, selling it off to their "exemplary business partners" in Abu Dhabi and beyond . Why the hell would you want to visit when there are so many nice areas of the UK?

  • @liamness
    @liamness 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is it normally this busy, or is this the effect of lockdown? I cycled down here a few years back to get to a United game, was practically deserted compared to this. Particularly around Sale. Maybe there are just more people living in the area now.

    • @JenOnTheMove
      @JenOnTheMove  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, it does get that busy... This was a fairly quiet day!

    ah my old cycle route back in the days pre lockdown, deansgate to lymm. lovely until the heavens thought it would be a good idea to rain on the proverbial parade

    • @northcountrygirl1980
      @northcountrygirl1980 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Bridgewater canal Dunham to Lymm is not a cycle route. Bike wankers doing whatever you like as usual. To hell with rules! Who cares about pedestrians who are legally walking down the towpath, only to be mowed down by you twats.

    Tram!

    • @JasonCliftJones
      @JasonCliftJones 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep!
      Jen passed the following;
      1:20 - Cornbrook - Stop is out of sight to the left.
      The Altrincham, East Didsbury & Airport lines branch away out of sight to our left around 1:35
      2:12 - Pomona - The tram takes the turn onto the Eccles & MediaCity UK lines, with the Trafford Centre line continuing opposite us for a short distance longer.
      We then lose the tram lines for a while until...
      6:16 - Stretford - The Altrincham line that branched off back at Cornbrook reappears on the other side of the canal. The yellow arch stands out a bit.
      7:50 - Dane Road - Actually south of the bridge but a bit away from the canal here; can just about see the road access through the trees on the left.
      8:52 - Sale - out of sight to the left.
      10:04 - Brooklands
      11:38 - Timperley - First one since Stretford to be on our side of the adjoining bridge! Bit hidden by trees though.
      The line then continues straight on to Navigation Road & Altrincham whilst the canal branches away.

    Why not start at Worsley at the beginning of the Bridgewater canal

      I started at Manchester at the beginning of the Bridgwater canal? Worsley isn’t at the beginning of either branch?

    • @JenOnTheMove
      @JenOnTheMove  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Where does it say that? The Bridgewater Canal website even says "Pedestrians should move over to the side of the path furthest away from the water for approaching cyclists."

    • @jrl1809
      @jrl1809 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JenOnTheMove Ok so the problem might be that the Bridgwater is not part of the Canals and Rivers Trust. According to them pedestrians have the right of way in this order: walkers, runners, cyclists. Everyone must move and slow down for walkers. So everyone should be on the left so that others can safely overtake walkers. It's not 'rule' but it's on the UK athletics website and the British Cycling website to keep left. Its just etiquette to treat the towpath like a road
