Ms. Paula you and your team are awesome! Im so glad I found you again! You are definitely a ray of sunshine in these bleak times! Thank you so much for all you do! There's nothing better than a southern grandma in the kitchen!
How are you doing today Chefy Momma ? Its really nice having you on here you seems nice, caring, honest with good heart person by your picture look,i don't want to see that pretty face look sad, just keep smiling because that make you look more beautiful.
Last year I had to move in with my mom to care for her. I talked her into letting me get Internet. When the quarantine happened I saw that you had started your quarantine cooking shows. I showed her and when I come home from work everyday she will ask me oh I hope Paula has a new show today. This has made her so happy seeing you cook. We have made some of the recipes you have showed and she has loved it. Thank you so much for making these shows. It has brought much happiness on my mother and I. She loves it when your sons come to see you and helps.
This makes me cry. How wonderful for you both to find a lil peace and enjoyment in this time you share. Treasure every single moment with your Mom... This time will offer you peace and smiles later. God bless. 😇
I would love to see you make divinity on the show. My grandma made it all the time and I remember it being much chewier than what I am able to reproduce. I’d love to master it for the holidays to be able to give some to my dad to bring back memories of his mom
This cake is so special to me, too. ❤️ My precious Mamaw Peggy passed this recipe down to me, and I make it every Christmas. I never heard it called pea/pig picking cake; we just always call it mandarin orange cake. I take some of the orange juice I poured off and make a simple syrup to brush on the cake. I always double the frosting because it’s so delicious! I also sometimes use the frosting as a dip with vanilla wafers or graham crackers. Love this video!
my family too we just call this mandarin orange cake, pretty sure we blended the oranges in with the mixer too, haven't made this in 25 years probably but I don't ever remember those orange sections being whole like that right out of the can
How are you doing today Mars? Its really nice having you on here you seems nice, caring, honest with good heart person by your picture look,i don't want to see that pretty face look sad, just keep smiling because that make you look more beautiful.
My mom used to make fried chicken in her electric skillet. Then she would make cream gravy from the drippins for mashed potatoes. I can't be bothered to do that myself. I prefer the convenience of getting fried chicken from the deli. The chicken is just as good as mom's was. But the deli's gravy is a travesty! I think I liked my mom's cream gravy better than the actual chicken! I'd put a slice of bread on my plate & drench it in the gravy and eat it just like that. YUM!!
Pawl...I agree we love our Paula so much. She is a big apart of our lives in the mornings here. She gets me going for sure every morning .I gotta have... My ☕ and Paula that is my daily routine ♥️🤗
@@sweethomealabama1369 Oh yeah! I watched Paula for years now; first on TV and now here on TH-cam. Great idea on the livestream and I hope she does one soon. 😋👍
This cake recipe is similar to one I use to make for family get together. 1yellow cake mix, 4 eggs, 1 can mandarin oranges, and 1/4 cup apple sauce. That’s it. Bake according to cake mix instructions. Frosting: take 1 can crushed pineapple put in bowl add lg box instant vanilla pudding mix. Stir till thickened. Fold in whipped topping 8oz. I’m a truck driver so I don’t get a lot of time at home. I love to try your dishes when I get the chance. Thank You so much. I sure do miss you and your sons onTV use to tape them so I could see them when I got home.
Paula you make my DAY. I find comfort in your videos it's like sitting down with a family member and enjoying life. I unfortunately have lost all my family members and you know how that is because I believe I heard you say Paula you're the only one left in yours well I'm the only one left in mine besides my two sons. My husband passed first and it just went right down the line my mother my father even my close friends and some were younger than me and so I find entertainment the best way I can. I'm disabled due to a accident so I'm not able to drive and my stability isn't all that great but I can tell you I get around this house like there is no tomorrow it is taking me a good year get myself to what I consider a little normal I can finally do housework but I have to pace it and cooking which is something I totally adore doing and it broke my heart when I found I wasn't going to be able to do that when I first came home. One of the rehab places gave me an idea and it's so helped she said take everything you're needing to make your meal and put it on the table then put it all together and then cook it. That is totally helped me in regards to being able to cook again because cooking is my passion I enjoy cooking for others I enjoy learning new recipes I enjoy watching you show me things I didn't even know. You have been an absolute breath of fresh air. When you started these TH-cams during quarantined I was ecstatic it gave me something to look forward to every day. Truth be known I was quarantined before quarantine was cool LOL but I keep upbeat a smile on my face and realize it could be worse so I take one day at a time and thank you for being in that day. Keep it going Paula keep it going gives me great ideas on things to cook I appreciate you. Love you Miss Paula Deen
Dear Paula Deen ... My great grandmother made a cake we had at every holiday. Sadly, no one has the recipe anymore. Can you help? It's a very moist, one layer, dense cake with a buttermilk 'glaze' (I think) on top while it's still warm. The 'glaze' then soaks into the cake. Cut into 4" squares. It is a Prune cake. Sooo delicious!! Please help!!
I just made my Grandma's Corn and Potato Casserole. It is a family tradition and she made us feel so special on our birthdays. We were a family of seven kids and one hard working Mama. She somehow made ends meet and when one of us had a birthday, Mama picked up boxes of fried chicken on her way home from work and Grandma made our favorite cake and a pan of corn and potatoes. It is a family favorite and every time we get together I have to make it because apparently I'm the only one who does it right. 5 lbs potatoes, sliced into bite size pieces Salt n' pepper Three cans of creamed corn White Sauce: One stick of butter Half cup of flour Four cups milk Four cups crushed Corn Flakes 2 sticks melted butter Put the sliced potatoes in a large shallow baking dish. Salt and pepper them real good. Add the white cream sauce and creamed corn. Mix it up and top with the crushed Corn Flakes. Pour the melted butter over the Corn Flakes and bake it for an hour. Feed it the people you love the most.

Thank you for Quarantine Cooking!! Its my favorite of your series! I love your stories and how true to life everything plays out. You also remind me of my grandmother who passed away this summer. She loved her cast iron skillet! All the best to you and yours! Big hugs Paula!
Today's the 1st.day of November, and today I'm thankful for Ms.Paula being able to continue to do us these videos. This does look like a good cake that would be also good topped with nuts, but nuts makes anything better..I've got to find my recipe for this cake that my mother made for Christmas every year, it's called a fruit cocktail cake , I just can't find it anywhere. I do have a few people to call and see if they might have it. If I do come across it I'm going to share it with all of this little family going on here. Everyone please have a wonderful week ahead, and stay safe from this virus because it's still here, it's reallly hit our small town hard. I live in a small town in Alabama. So every body just know it's still alive, I'm staying in trying to stay away from it.
Hi Karen, have that fruit cocktail cake recipe from about 35 years ago...... I think you could make it using a box cake but using a can of fruit cocktail instead of oranges .My friend made it in as a sheet cake and the "frosting" was a hot mixture poured over the cake. Here is the recipe for the topping...... mix 1 tsp vanilla, 3/4 cup of sugar, 1stick of butter and 1 cup evaporated milk in a saucepan and bring to a boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly. He suggested adding coconut and/or nuts and then pouring over the hot cake. His scratch recipe called for 3 eggs whereas Paula's (using the box cake) called for 4 eggs. I remember this being so delicious! Just let me know if you want the full recipe in your archives. My recipe came out of NC
@@sherryrethwisch9589 thank you. I'm going to try this, and thank you for the topping. I'll be letting you know when I try it. I know I always thought this was the best cake. It could be that it was just that my mother made it..
This is one of my favorite cakes 😍😋 I tell you what I miss is my mawmaws chocolate cake. It was a yellow cake with a chocolate sauce poured over it - it's the most delicious chocolate she made on the stove from cocoa powder it's my most favorite cake in the whole world. She's been gone from us for about 9 years now that's ten Thanksgiving's & Christmas's without her & her delicious food! She is the best in the kitchen & I learned so much from her! I'm so thankful for you because you remind me of her in the smallest ways!!! 💜
Miss Paula your are the best cook I seen out their in a long time. Love your down to earth personality makes me feel like family. I love all your shows thank you for doing them.
My daddy was Scottish Catholic Canadian and my momma was French Canadian Catholic Potowatomi, both of them were GREAT cooks. I am a retired psychiatric technician/nurse I still cook. Homemade bread, cakes, food from my parents. I also make homemade doggy biscuits and Kitteh treats for my neighbors!
My dad was from West Virginia and he called oil, "erl." He would say, "..you gotta check your erl!" And I would have no idea what he was saying, lol. He also said "warsh" for wash and something like "ture" for tire.

Hi Paula! Just thought I'd drop you a message and let you know where and when I found this recipe. It was back when Barbara Mandrel had her tv show. She mentioned finding this recipe. After then, it started showing up in all the new recipe books , calling it Barbara Mandrel's PPC. This IS one of the best cakes I've ever eaten. Funny, I was never a fan of any type of oranges, until I tried this recipe. I love all your Quarantine Cooking Shows. Makes feel warm inside after missing you on your tv shows. I still miss you and love you. Hugs!!!! Linda, from Texas
Hey Paula and Eddie on this video you asked about fond memories from what grandmother made My grandmother was a fabulous cake maker and would never have less than one or two cakes freshly made a rice cake and lemon drizzle were always favourites. Now as I'm almost 60 i have nothing but warm fond memories of those happy baking days. She also made a really mean liver and bacon with onion gravy. As my family are from northeast England in not sure if you have a similar dish in the south there in the US. Would love to see a Paula Dean version of my grandma's liver and bacon .... Love and best dishes to all the team and fellow Paula fans
Btw Your frosting calls for : 16 oz can crushed pineapple drained 2-8 oz containers cool whip OR 1 qt was whipping cream w 1 cup of sugar 1- 3.4 oz box of vanilla instant pudding
Ms Paula- I just now googled your “ pig pickin’ “ version and yes you used mandarin oranges in it and your recipe stated 8” cake pans and your frosting is sinfully amazing lol love n kisses from Fairbanks Alaska at a comfy cozy 14 degrees below zero ! 😉🤗💕
I make this all the time. My family's favorite. I use 16 oz crushed pineapple, 8oz cool whip and vanilla pudding. I don't drain my pineapple. This cake is so good.
@stavros333Wow, this is not a political forum. It's a fun loving cooking video. Your political views are over the top to speak of "driving a stake into hearts"!!! Omg, I get you are still into Halloween, but grow up, and do not promote more violence than this United States needs. Maybe it's people like you that we find our collective selves in this venomous political environment. Go elsewhere to spout your political views. It is not here, on a cooking video.

Oh my goodness, I’ve. Been making this cake as long as I can Remember. My Aunt Mildred used to take to our family reunions. She called it a Daffodid. Cake, these kids will ask me to make the mandarin orange pineapple cake. It’s a lite cake that can eat even when you are full and after any kind of meal. It lite and fluffy, that’s one of younger kids called. You know I want a light and fluffy and finally she said oranges so I knew which one to make. Now I cZn tell everyone to look on Paula Deens TH-cam channel. I love you and have for years. I quit eating at 5he Tunica Casino that you had.a Restaurant in. We only went to eat at your restaurant there while the guys played poker.
As soon as I saw you putting the mandarin oranges and a cake mix, my mind went straight to pineapple! And low and behold you put it in the frosting! LOL much love y’all from my heart to yours 🥰🙏🏻💜
For shortbread cookie recipe similar to what real Scots made, substitute Wondra flour in stead of regular flour. Use same amts you would for cookie recipe with butter and granulated texture. Add 1/4 cup regular flour. Cream butter and sugar then add two types flour, a tablespoon at a time , alternating between flours.mix with fork, until all flour mixed. Doing it this means flours are mixed evenly. Has grainy look to it as you would expect. Dump into jelly roll pan or into cookie sheet and press down evenly with fingers. Then take tines of fork and prick cookie dough in pan about 1/4 inch apart, entire pan. Takes longer to do this than to mix. Believe it’s a 350* oven 35-40 min until turns light brown. Remove from oven to cool on racks. About five minutes. Sprinkle granulated sugar on top. Then slice to size you want. Jelly roll pan makes thicker cookie. Wait till completely cool to remove. Store in tin canister of some type. Why I bought extra at Walmart to use as hiliday cookie gifts. Keeping it in tin keeps it crunchy for 10-12 weeks (NOT!) this wasScots woman recipe. Isabel experimented for several years using different flours found in US. Until she discovered Wondra flour. EVERYONE LOVES THIS RECIPE,

Every year my Mom made these cakes for the holidays , and I have been wanting to make them this year so bad, I’m just scared with my bad back it’s going to go out and I’ll be in bed for the holidays .. But the Cakes are ... Nells Icebox Fruitcake, ( my aunt Mary Nells recipe ), my Mom made it every year. Then there’s... Orange Slice Cake... and Waldorf Astoria Cake. Then there’s my Moms Carrot Cake and Coconut Cake.... and She made all these cakes every year for the holidays... She was Wonder Woman for sure, I don’t know how far I’ll get, with my bad back, ( I have a Ruptured disk ), but I’m going to give it my best.... I love you Mrs. Paula.!
I ruptured a disc in my lower back years ago. It was pure agony. They wanted to do surgery but I was like, "no way!" I waited and the pain slowly got better. It look about a year to completely heal. The good news is once it was healed, it never hurt again. My advice is to always rest your back when you feel pain. Don't push through it! Pain is our signal to slow down so we don't injure ourselves any further. Don't feel bad if you have to rest in bed all day sometimes. You're doing the right thing for your back to rest it and let it heal.
@@mygirldarby ... I’m so sorry about your back, you are so right, it’s the worst pain ever, mines in the middle of my back, and there wanting to do all kinds of procedures, the thing is, my insurance want pay all of it, and I can’t. So for now we wait... I’m praying it heals on it’s own in time... I’m just going to do a little at a time... I’m to scared to push it, but your right... Rest is the best thing.!
I was screaming "Tennessee Earnie Ford!" My Mamaw did this with fresh tangerines and she'd squeeze a few in her hand to make the juice to thing the batter. The oil is what makes the cake so darn moist and I love it. Thank you, Ms. Paula, for skipping the tub of whipped topping. I've never seen that used here - only stabilized whipped cream. Now I want a slice myself with a cup of black coffee!
I love you Paula and I thank you for all the laughs during the covid pandemic. You kept me sane during my depression and by cooking your recipes. Lots of laughs and giggles to you and Therese and Eddie.
I inherited my husband’s grandmother’s recipe box...this recipe was in the box...Pig Pickin’ Cake. The only difference was that Gram said to bake it in two 9-inch pans. Otherwise, same, same. Delicious! Thanks for sharing!!
Make this cake often...I beat the mandarin oranges in the batter so it is tiny pieces of fruit rather than the whole piece of fruit...make it in a 9x13 pan. Family favorite.

Hi Miss Paula, since you asked for recipes, here is a good Pea salad that every man I ever served it to loved! Cook a pound of green peas, drain, and let them cool in a big bowl. Add all of the following: 1 cup of cubed colby jack cheese, 1 medium tomato, chopped. 3 green onions, thinly sliced, 2 sticks of celery, thinly sliced, and a big spoonful of Dukes mayo. Please don’t use Miracle whip because this is a savory salad. Stir well to combine, and then taste and season to suit you with salt and pepper. It looks like a lady’s luncheon salad, but for a simple dish, it packs a big taste. My husband, boys, and grandkids love it. I got the recipe from my Aunt Delilah in Creve Coeur, MO. That town name looks French, but the locals say “krev-cur”. I’ve loved your shows and books for years, and you seem like a sweet cousin! Be careful and stay healthy!

God bless. 😇
I wish my French Canadian Potowatomi momma was still alive and cooking!
Love this video!
my family too we just call this mandarin orange cake, pretty sure we blended the oranges in with the mixer too, haven't made this in 25 years probably but I don't ever remember those orange sections being whole like that right out of the can
Thanks for the great idea about the frosting as a dip I will try that for our Christmas party.

YUM!!

5 lbs potatoes, sliced into bite size pieces
Salt n' pepper
Three cans of creamed corn
White Sauce:
One stick of butter
Half cup of flour
Four cups milk
Four cups crushed Corn Flakes
2 sticks melted butter
Put the sliced potatoes in a large shallow baking dish. Salt and pepper them real good. Add the white cream sauce and creamed corn. Mix it up and top with the crushed Corn Flakes. Pour the melted butter over the Corn Flakes and bake it for an hour.
Feed it the people you love the most.
What a lovely memory, and sounds like a good recipe too! 💕

My grandmother was a fabulous cake maker and would never have less than one or two cakes freshly made a rice cake and lemon drizzle were always favourites.
My mother used to call it a pig pickin cake. Delicious and a great memory.

My grandma used to make me Divinity. I remember watching her beat it by hand. Didn't realize how hard that must have been at the time. I can't make it as good even with a mixer.
Thank you Paula for whatever you call your quarantine show. I am alone in life and have so enjoyed you sharing your time with me. I can't tell you how much my cooking has improved and how much that improvement has opened doors for me. Not alone any more!
Paula im from Northern Michigan and i have been watching through the years. Watchibg you on Food Network i learned how to cook. It was like having you right there w me every step if the way. I watch you every day and have as always learned so much. I love you and God Bless.
How are you doing today Betty Townsend? Its really nice having you on here you seems nice, caring, honest with good heart person by your picture look,i don't want to see that pretty face look sad, just keep smiling because that make you look more beautiful.
My grandma loved this cake but we called it sunshine cake. We blend the mandarin oranges into the batter and we baked it in a 9x13 pan as a single cake layer. We like it chilled.
How are you doing today Laurie? Its really nice having you on here you seems nice, caring, honest with good heart person by your picture look,i don't want to see that pretty face look sad, just keep smiling because that make you look more beautiful.
@@ronaldwilson2539 Thank you. 😊
@@ljke Well I’ve had to overcome many things in my life and would not be where I’m at today if I did not speak my mind. So the answer is yes, I have no problem speaking my mind. To be an advocate for myself and my kid. There is a right and wrong way to approach every situation so I am very careful when I do need to stand up for myself keeping others in mind
Icing is good with addition of pecans, coconut and mini marshmallows - one or all. My family prefers the additions and makes more to pile on the cake.
This Georgia girl loves your videos so much! You are a real southern doll! Thank you so much! 😍
Hey, Paula! Bless your little pea pickin’ heart! ❤️❤️❤️ You are amazing!
I love to watch Paula. Not because I like to cook\eat; I love to listen to her talk.
Paula I love to watch you. You or on my bucket list as one of the most important person to meet before I get to old .do truly love watching your shows. Have a lot of your cook books and your book too.
Paula, thanks for making this. My Grandma used to make this for desert for us kids after Sunday dinner. She called it a Pig Lickin' Cake. I thougt that was the funniest name for a cake. Thanks for all you do! I enjoy watching your shows everyday. You, Teresa and Eddie really help brigten my day in these dark times.
I am loving your spoon holder in the background. It looks like it holds so many cooking tools and space saving on your countertop.
