Hey Paula! Great dish! It is one of my family favorites. I use cayenne instead of curry in my chicken Divan. Also, I don't layer everything. I mix everything with the sauce and sometimes I top with panko, other times I top it with shedded cheese the last 10 minutes of cooking time in the oven. This dish is great to take to a family that has just come home with a new baby and also to families that are mourning. I only use a dab of cayenne in these cases. The simple ingredients seem to appeal to all ages and they don't bother me and my digestive system can be rather finicky. Love & best dishes from Mobile, AL!!!
Yes! I'm a lover of chicken, 🐔 broccoli, 🥦 cheese, 🧀 butter, 🧈 & lemon! 🍋 Not sure why i had forgotten all about this dish, too!! 🤔 However, I'll be preparing this within 7-8 days! I just had a thought that seems like it would stretch our money/meal. I think I may ADD some, NOT alot, of egg noodles to that creamy soup, cheese, butter, mixture AFTER they're cooked al dente'. I can't wait to serve my adult kids, etc. 😁 They're all going to ❤ it! Paula, I can't wait to see you, & your eye. Y'all have a beautiful, blessed, three day LABOR DAY. 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
As much as the receips, I just LOVE the warm, homey feel of your kitchen! It takes me away mentally from all the difficult things going on in our Nation.....Thank you so much for your happy, witty, laughing personality.........
This is my favorite dish! I could eat it every single day! Just made a one-pan version of it week before last. It's delicious! My version has no curry (I don't consider it a curry dish), no sour cream; sauce is cheese, cream of chicken soup, mayo, lemon juice, mustard, dash of cayenne and a little paprika. The lemon and mustard elevate the sauce flavor way beyond the soup taste. And it's topped with cheese instead of bread crumbs. When I was in college a friend of mine made it for me. I had never had broccoli before. So this dish brought me into the world of broccoli (which I just ate some today). It's a must try dish (although I don't know about curry in this).
I REALLY feel when anyone makes THIS casserole, it should be doubled. Placed in TWO separate pans. ONE to share, one to eat that night, OR, one to freeze! This recipe is so very delicious, everyone will be wanting more within 7 - 14 days. Always share a dish like this. (There's so many people who are very depressed right now, ALL due to the 'virus' & not being able to go out much, or simply staying home.) ❤

Amen.... I agree with you.... This is fantastic also as a meal for a shut in, a new mother and her family, someone who just had surgery, a neighbor or anyone who has done a special thing for you or been a special friend. I've made this in gigantic batches, put the amount you need for each person/family in casserole dishes from the thrift store, then tell them to keep the dish. I also do this at Christmas. find pretty Christmas plates and put a bunch of cookies on it, cover it, add a Christmas card, give to all your neighbors.
Looks good. I didn't grow up on casseroles either, but for another reason. I tried another version of that, and wasn't very impressed. Yours looks SO much better. My love for southern cooking is from staying in Alabama (right on the border of GA) for an extended week as a teen, due to an unexpected funeral. I went as guest, so guess who tended to the door and gathered all the food? Yeppers..., ME! Went back and cleaned butter beans too. WOW! Those are great! I don't think I've had any since. You're my southern touch of home... Have a blessed day everyone! !

My mother used to make this when it was her turn to host her sewing club (back in the 70’s). I haven’t thought of this in years. I will have to make this soon. Thanks for the recipe!
I prefer your take on this to my recipe. I always make this when there is a death in a family or a birth or a sickness. Easy to preheat and not much clean up for those that you are taking it to. I love it.
Love this bake, it's been a favourite standby meal for years in our house, and there are loads of variations. I've seen it sprinkled with crushed crisps over the top as well. Most people love a curry in the UK, we have a high Southern Asian population so Indian food is everywhere, and very popular. We pronounce Divan differently over the pond - div rhymes with give.
“I need to add more butter...” You go woman! 😜 I adore this casserole! Honestly, I’ve been craving this so much. I need to make me some. My variation uses broccoli spears, and I make my soup as an enriched cream sauce - but definitely use the curry, cheese, and lemon. 👍🏻
I was raised on casseroles. Still make them every 1-2 weeks...gives you tasty leftovers and a break from cooking one evening. This is a good recipe. Make it! Thanks Paula!
Paula, you and Jamie whipped up a batch of this on your old tv show. It’s on your website! Similar to this version, but has some wine and other changes. But they both have the curry. I haven’t made this in many years, but this has inspired me to make it.
I’m a Happy Camper and I’m gonna make this in my RV on the road! Thanks for the reminder of an old classic I used to make when the children were all still in the house.
When we would visit my Grandmother in Dawson in the summer my Dad and Mom would take us to Garganos in Albany. It was such a treat!. I remember the plastic animal stirrers that were in our fruity drinks. So fun as there was not much to do in Dawson:(. I always enjoy your videos. Thanks for posting often.

Thank you Paula for sharing this recipe and technique. Im making this tomorrow for hubby and my Mom. (She is getting older now, and I share/cook for her twice a week and she LOVES whatever I make! I LOVE the way you say "Butter"!! lol You are a national treasure, OUR national treasure!! xoxoxo
Here are my changes, using what I had on hand. Three-cheese shredded mix, a container of cheddar dip, fresh broccoli that I steamed and chopped, milk instead of broth, and one large can of cream of chicken soup instead of using cream of mushroom. I loved your taste-testing regarding curry, as I added about 2 tsp. I used crushed crackers mixed with butter. I put extra salt and pepper on each layer. Very flavorful and my husband said it's delicious!
I’ve made this since I was a child. It’s my favorited or my birthday which falls in Thanksgiving. You can’t go wrong with this recipe! You can slightly alter it and it always turns out Great!!
Thank you so much for doing these videos. I find my self so angry all the time anymore with what’s going on in our country, but your videos make me feel like I’m visiting my sweet southern relatives who have all passed. Love you!
This is like my chicken and broccoli casserole that I mentioned some time back. The diced pimentos and the broccoli make look like Christmas. Don't forget the water chestnuts; they give it a good crunch.
Thank you for this recipe. I come from the land of Hatch green chili. I usually use shredded chicken in my enchilada recipies. This will be a nice change and a hardy meal.
Our family makes this with a small amount of sherry (which would cook off) and Dijon mustard in the sauce, (plus all of Paula’s ingredients) always have it with wild rice too! It’s such a comfort dish for me because this was always my childhood request! 😁
Favorite since childhood- I use a couple tablespoons of curry in mine, and yes- it just adds a wonderful layer of flavor, (not even necessarily identifiable as curry, that's the weird part). That and the lemon are a must in my book- oh and the buttered breadcrumbs! I've made it the same way for years but I'd like to try some different cheeses and play with it a bit. Can't really go wrong....
Your a beautiful lady Paula!! So remind me of my mom in the restaurant cooking for others. She loved what she did was dedicated and devoted to her customers ❤
Thank you Miss Paula. I came looking for a recipe for chicken divan and knew when I saw you had one, that it would be good. It is scrumptious. Love you!!
My mother made this exactly the same way and now I make it. I do not like curry but I put it in because it definitely makes a difference in the dish. So yummy!!
I was looking online for this recipe. Went through 4 & none were what I remembered. Yours was it!! I like the curry & lemon which adds that extra zing. None of the others had those in their recipes.

In add celery salt & celery flakes in the mix to taste. I also put cheddar cheese on top instead of the crumbs. When I serve it I put it on Brown rice that I baked in the oven. Yum.
This looks so good! I make a chicken casserole that has very similar ingredients, but can be a little heavy (has Pasta in it..) I am going to head to the Grocery to get all these ingredients. Thank you Paula ❤
Made this tonight and it was super good! I didn’t have white wine so I used cream. My dear husband got the ingredients for me and got chopped broccoli but that turned out good. I added a little Dijon mustard. Don’t add all the salt or the cheese makes it too salty.
I just roasted a chicken last night. As it's just my husband and me these days, there will be plenty of meat to pick to use. Most people love a curry in the UK, we have a high Southern Asian population so Indian food is everywhere, and very popular. We pronounce Divan differently over the pond - div rhymes with give.
@@glamdolly30 Good for you troll.
RedRoseSeptember22 right. Giving your opinion where it isn’t wanted is trolling. I blocked her, whoever she was.
“I need to add more butter...” You go woman! 😜
I adore this casserole! Honestly, I’ve been craving this so much. I need to make me some.
My variation uses broccoli spears, and I make my soup as an enriched cream sauce - but definitely use the curry, cheese, and lemon. 👍🏻
I just made this recipe. I had no idea until now it was featured in today’s video. Next time I’ll make Ms. Paula’s recipe. 😊
When I first lived on my own I made Chicken Divan all of the time. Brings back memories.
Making this tomorrow! Using white wine like in your cookbook vs the stock.
Absolutely!
I was raised on casseroles. Still make them every 1-2 weeks...gives you tasty leftovers and a break from cooking one evening. This is a good recipe. Make it! Thanks Paula!
My husband introduced me to this dish while were just friends. He got the recipe from his mom. He makes this evey year for Easter. It is so good!!
I have never put curry in my chicken casseroles. I can't wait to try this
Paula, you and Jamie whipped up a batch of this on your old tv show.
Looks good! I add carmelized onions and finely diced celery to mine. I also add a layer of thinly sliced potatoes. Oooooh sooooo good
When we would visit my Grandmother in Dawson in the summer my Dad and Mom would take us to Garganos in Albany. It was such a treat!. I remember the plastic animal stirrers that were in our fruity drinks. So fun as there was not much to do in Dawson:(. I always enjoy your videos. Thanks for posting often.
I would be so sad if she stopped doing these videos. I look forward to Paula. She makes the world brighter and calmer in this chaotic world. She is such a beautiful human being.
Morning Paula and Theresa and Eddie... 6am here in Utah. Miss Paula you so funny. You and your crumby friends... 🤗💙
Love you!
Definitely going to make this! Love your videos, Paula! Thank you.
Love you Paula. Please dont stop your videos. Your videos remind me of my mom and her cooking.
I’m so glad you do this every day! I spend my evenings watching your wonderful face and your cooking! Thank you!
Our family makes this with a small amount of sherry (which would cook off) and Dijon mustard in the sauce, (plus all of Paula’s ingredients) always have it with wild rice too! It’s such a comfort dish for me because this was always my childhood request! 😁
Sherry is in my mom's recipe too
I've heard of chicken divan but I've never made it as I always thought it sounded too fancy for me to make.. Thank you for showing me how to do it !
Love my Dukes mayo as well,I use nothing else.
What I use only friend 👍🤗
I wish they sell that mayonnaise up here in Brooklyn, NY. I've tried it when I came 2 visit my family in NC and fell in luv with it 😍
@@essence1126 It's available on Amazon🧡
@@bonniest.pierre2045 Omg, Thank you so very much😍
Favorite since childhood- I use a couple tablespoons of curry in mine, and yes- it just adds a wonderful layer of flavor, (not even necessarily identifiable as curry, that's the weird part).

Love your hair today, Paula!
Me to her hair is so beautiful...I wish I was brave to go all gray. Maybe one day😀
Sharon Puckett yeah
"Slap to dab" full of water!!! Gurl, OMG, God bless your heart, you are so southern!!!!
So yummy!!
I shred all my cheeses now too! A lil work but sooooo worth it! Thank you for sharing all your recipes from home and friend 😃💜🍗🥦🧀🧂🍋
I was looking online for this recipe. Went through 4 & none were what I remembered. Yours was it!! I like the curry & lemon which adds that extra zing. None of the others had those in their recipes.
Thank you Miss Paula! I have been looking for a good version if this recipe for a while. I have some chicken I need to spruce up.
Paula, I made this tonight for dinner.
I added French Fried Onions to the top,
This was absolutely delicious, thank you!
Pretty close to my recipe.
Our favorite casserole. Pepperidge Farm dressing in the bag or use Stove Top crumbs wonderful.
Curry is awesome
Doesn’t that look absolutely delicious. Can’t wait to make it.
I’m sorry about the virus but the best thing that came out of it, is that we get to see Paula. Who missed the heck out of her, I certainly did. Paula you were part of my daily live. I couldn’t wait to watch your show and had a blast!
God bless you and the laughter n joy you bring into peoples lives.
This is great. Recipes we all love so much. Well done!
This looks sooo good - and sooo easy! I would never have thought to add curry powder! Great idea. Can’t wait to try this! We have a constantly starving teenage boy and this should fill him up ... like Bobby’s Goulash did! 👍👏👍
Gonna give his a try. I remember being a young 20 year old and being invited to a ladies lunch and she served shrimp Newburgh. I was so impressed.
Really enjoying your videos! Love the inspiration! Been watching you for years and your show was my mother's favorite cooking show. She just loved watching you! Love these old school recipes and who wouldn't, lol😘 Next with Thanksgiving left overs Turkey Terazinni!
I first heard of Dukes Mayonnaise from you Miss Paula and found it in the stores here in Indiana...replaced all my miracle whip with dukes. Gave away 4 jars of miracle whip to start using my dukes....will have to try this...looks yummy
Coming to you from Valdosta, I haven't made Chicken Divan in a long time, but it is one of my favorites!! Thank you for keeping us entertained and giving us recipe ideas!!!
I love your chicken divan recipe and make it often!!! 💖💖
Good morning my friend haven't seen you. Hope you are doing ok? Have a wonderful Sunday 💓
In add celery salt & celery flakes in the mix to taste. I also put cheddar cheese on top instead of the crumbs. When I serve it I put it on Brown rice that I baked in the oven. Yum.
This is a great recipe for using up leftover turkey after thanksgiving, too.
Fortunately, we have all the ingredients and I am excited to make this tonight. Thank you. For whatever reason, I just haven't made this in a while. Now I can't wait until dinner, ha! ha! Thanks Paula and take care.
Thank you for sharing this recipe! I made it for the first time and it was SO good 😊 This city slicker is now wanting to take a trip to the South.
Looks delicious, I've never eaten this before, but I plan to make it soon. Thank you Paula.
Hi Paula your Son is so cute. I'm just so grateful for you being back.
I’m gonna make this today! So glad I found your YT channel a little while ago!
I use the plain rotisserie chicken for my chicken soup. In my chicken divine I use a bit of curry powder in the sauce it makes a world of difference
I read that curry is a very good spice for your health in a lot of ways. This recipe looks delicious! Y'all enjoy 🌞💖
Well known for centuries that many spices are good for you. The Indian spices are extremely beneficial. There are many of them.
@@glamdolly30 Well people with no teeth need to eat well too but as for eating Southern inspired food, I wouldn't as it's not my thing.
I've lived all over the world and eaten many different cuisines, some I like, some I don't.
Chicken Divan is one of my comfort food go-to recipes. I am not a fan of curry either, but love it in this recipe. I top mine with fried onions.
I've been making this for YEARS!! I noticed you didn't really follow your original recipe that I use but it still looks delicious 😋
