TC arrived at speed down the stairs and quickly downed several pints in a few minutes. As this is TH-cam - where gentle humour is probably about to be banned for being confusing, divisive and making people think - it may be worth mentioning to peeps unfamiliar with TC that his act was not meant to be slick, polished and flawlessly performed to show how great a conjuror or stand-up comedian he was; his act was deliberately wonky.
The irony is, it took at least as much talent, skill and rehearsal as a 'pro' puts into a glitzy show to be "this bad" [in heavy quotation marks🤭].
Tommy's act WAS slick, polished and flawlessly performed - and performed brilliantly... badly. As he apparently struggled to stay afloat, firing off dodgy jokes and bluffing his way through some gloriously duff magic tricks, his natural warmth, big laugh, and perfect timing made sure that everyone was in on the joke.
It's pantomime magic for kids aged 8, to kids aged 98. That's why audiences loved, and still love him.
Come on, now: spoon, jar; jar, spoon... 😁

Tavy@ i liked tommy cooper he was good to watch. But tbh i thought he was overated as a comedian, he mostly told jokes that were probably hes funniest bits. But he told the same jokes for years. I remember when he had his weekly half hour shows that ran for 5 months a year and it lasted at least 7 years, and it wasnt really funny. He would do and say daft stuff that made you thinck hes getting desperate now. I wouldnt say he was a born natural comedian. Like billy connelly and freddie starr and guys like them. Tommy wouldnt make most guys top 5 comedians. Now we all know there is no such thing as magic, and tommy just went round magic shops buying what he could. He was a funny man but no where near the way people hail him as the best. After about 2 year i stopped watching his shows becouse they just wernt funny. Hes sketches were really bad at times, like one sketch i saw where a man has a ciggarette in hes mouth and asked tommy on the street if he had a match? And tommy put his two thumbs up next to each other. And i thought uck come on this is bad How is he getting away with this. Some of his so called tricks were funny. But not after the 20th time he did them. He was funny but just no where near the best.

I think he’s best in front of a live audience as he seems to have the ability to make them laugh at anything. The man definitely has stage presence.
