    Classic from a vintage golden era of British Comedy, through the 60s and 70s we had Till Death, Steptoe & Son, Porridge, Dads Army, Rising Damp, One the Buses , Good Life etc.. We were spoilt with 2 decades of great writing, great actors, and brilliant humor, pity today's telly weren't half as good as these quality humorous comedy gems.

    It brings tears to my eyes to think that we used to live a freer life back then. And yes we were having trouble with terrorist bomb attacks on our cities, strikes and other bad things but we seemed happier. We could laugh at ourselves and others without people taking offence. Kids didn't commit suicide because of exam results or because they were unsure of their gender. PC has made this an alien world - alien to common sense!

    • @tonypap1
      @tonypap1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Absolutely. The added irony that the BBC who produced this show and so much comedic brilliance over the years is now at the forefront of this blitzkrieg of PC and fast disappearing up it's own arse. Nothing the BBC produces is funny any more. Artistic license utterly suffocated by it's own "mustn't say that" rulebook.

      @noisemann 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      that's mostly safe Hollywood garbage.. We're talking about comedy. Don't get me wrong America has some good comedy, but the British sitcom started it and cannot be imitated. Yeah I like American comedy of course, but it's a different league and relies more on gimmicks. UK comedy is still good today (in some cases) but caters to a wider audience of people who like catchphrases and gimmicks..

      I thought Archie Bunker and Edit+meat head and the blonde daughter were' 'pretty good''i was very sad when Carole O'Connor died. I grew up with both TV shows living in New Zealand as a young male and I felt a kindred feeling with the two versions of the same theme. Thise were the days was a wonderful TV time for me as were many US TV shows as well as any English comedies=Hattie Jakes and Eric Sykes, the 2 Ronnies, Morcomb and Wise, Dave Allen, The Dick Emery Show, Benny Hill Show, oh my god there were so many, but US TV was extremely good in those days and I saw all of the great ones. Allas Smith and Jones, Not The nine o clock news, there were very many TV shows from both nations, such funny shows, they can be seen here now or gotten out on disc. All in the family was very funny, well until its makers became too self censoring, it's just so pc and hard to believe Archie and Edit would be caring for a small Jewish girl??The Jefferson's,I remember the Jefferson's were a black US family and the young teenage male was very funny. Yes that was fun and the TV show with the black couple living next door to the white couple in London was funny in a sarcastic way. And the show with, yes and the Benson show in US was good too, I liked Mrs Krowse and WK in Cincinnati was on earlier in the day when I got home from school. A good British TV show was ''IT ant half hot mum'' maid by the same team who made Dads Army. There are so many great TV shows from USA and Britain really. I don't think that many were rip offs of British TV just a few and those ones done ok and actually I THINK all IN THE FAMILY WAS A SLIGHT IMPROVEMNET ON till DEATH,WELL THATS MY OPINION ANYWAY....

    I was born & raised in the UK in 1961. This was one of my mother's favorite TV shows and I would watch it with her. I am now an American citizen living in California for about thirty four years and employed by a School District. Watching the first few minutes of this episode after all those years I was shocked at the language and attitude of Alf Garnett. It is a funny show in a nostalgic sense, however I'm not edorsing it.
    btw "Randy Scouse Git" was the name of a single by The Monkees. The name of the single was changed by the record company to "Alternate Title" because "Randy Scouse Git" wss deemed inappropriate.

    TDDUP, Rising Damp, Love Thy Neighbor, Steptoe and Son, Benny Hill, those were the days ......when British sitcoms could write what they like and not have to worry about PC. Sneaky move, the British govt, not allowing reruns and syndication. I was in the UK in the late 80's and never saw old UK sitcoms.

    All the comments saying all you get to watch on tv now is rubbish, well that's why they make it, because you keep watching it! Vote by turning it off or over. As a consumer you should be determining what gets put to air, not the other way around. It's why we have big brother and other reality crap, because they churn it out and we soak it up. Blame yourselves.

    Probably the biggest joke was that W.Mitchell was Jewish. Alf, apart from being an obvious bigot , points out , throughout the show, a number of disadvantages of socialism, too and these observations turned out to be almost prophetical. The authors of the show displayed good political insight based on common sense rather than on blind inclines toward left or right.
