Tony! This is the best thing that ever happened to me. As a teen living with grandparents they had a s beautiful LTD Landau and a Colony Park. I grew up with these big beautiful boats. I cant wait to see you work your magic.
My friends Mom had the same LTD wagon with every option that Ford offered and in that same exact color. We were in high school then and on Friday night we went out cruising all around in Roxborough which is North West Section of Philadelphia. Oh to be in high school in the late 70’s was crazy. Great Video Tony you took me back 45 years!! Lol!!!
Love this wagon. It has so much presence. In late 1979, I bought a plain base model '79 Thunderbird from the back lot at a Ford dealership in Tulsa, passing over the 1980 T-Birds, which I considered to be unspeakably ugly. Over the subsequent years I added an upgraded stereo system, replaced all the speakers, added intermittent wipers, power windows and door locks, using none other than kits from JC Whitney. With patience and perseverance, I gradually upgraded the T-Bird to where it had the level of comfort and conveniences I considered essential. Good luck to you and I'm looking forward to your upgrades and improvements on this beautiful vehicle.
Thank you very much, Sir! The guy called today and told me that he had the other tailpipe in, so it goes to him over the weekend. Maybe I'll finally start getting some stuff done to it. I would have made those same upgrades to that Thunderbird, too!
I would bet that the Mercury sat on the lot for a while and when prices increased they printed a new window sticker to reflect that change.. It will make an excellent parts car. Of course it is savable but the cost would exceed what it is worth. Glad you were able to find it. Looking forward to future videos. BTW the duct tape is a wonderful story. Poor kid at least tried.
🤣 lmao! I felt so bad for that poor kid. A couple of others have mentioned that price increase. I never realized they did that. But I wasn't buying brand new cars back then. Lol
The comment above about the manufacturer increasing prices in the middle of a model year and issuing new price stickers for cars already on dealer lots is exactly correct. That’s why you have 2 of them with variations.
Hey Mr. Tony - We cannot to wait to see the station wagon with all the updates. We have forgotten how nice these stations wagons were back in the day. We will definitely staff tuned. You are building quite a beautiful collection. Roseann & Dan
I'm afraid that when you see it in the village, it won't have all of the updates. I'm struggling to get all the mechanical things lined out. It is still at the exhaust shop. He said he's having trouble finding everything.
Hi Tony! I am excited for you to get the transfer/transformation done! I certainly wouldn’t worry too much about the crest on the front seats after you place them in the LTD. I really hope you have time to get all this done before your trip to show it off. Thanks for taking us along.
Hey Tony how you’s doin man I love the LTD Country Squire and Marquis Brougham Colony Park culture man let me tell ya I grew up in a Ford family my Dad had his new 65 F - 150 just 2 months before I was born We had 3 LTD Country Squires 71, 73,75 My dream LTD Country Squire would be a custom order super fully equipped 69 or 70 LTD Brougham Country Squire by all means let me go back in a Time Machine just for 1 hour thank you lord I be promise to be good forever if you could work your magic for me amen !!!
Yes, Sir! Ford, Mercury, Lincoln was bread into me as well. We always had pretty base cars growing up, but after having a loaded 1972 Marquis Brougham, I couldn't drive base vehicles anymore, and I've been adding options ever since. Thank you very much for watching and commenting. Much appreciated!
The interior parts from the mercury should be a really good upgrade for your country Squire, really going to come together nice, the Mercury also has some really good parts that could be very valuable to someone if their car were to be collision damaged, you have some good parts that would be impossible to find if a car were sideswiped ,front clip, doors, rear panels, trunk, hood, and many other good pieces
When there was a price increase, the factory would send out revised window stickers for cars that were in transit or that had recently been delivered to dealers. Sometimes, they would send revised stickers for all unsold new cars still in dealer stock no matter the original production date. That original sticker looks to have been wadded up. Maybe it was accidentally left in the car? The Mercury looks to have a Ford steering wheel center medallion with the inverted V crest.
I was a teenager when these were both new and I distinctly remember when green cars were everywhere - but then again, there were actual colors available on all cars with a variety of colors on interiors. Today we have such limited choices that it makes me wish I could have a big land yacht like that. I trust you'll be a great caretaker of that Country Squire. It is a shame so few are left for future generations to experience. You all don't know the joy of riding in a car like that that rides and just floats over road imperfections. Yeah, they don't handle like go karts. But they are like driving your living room. I owned a 1986 Lincoln Town Car and that still was like these two cars in comfort and ride and quietness.
Yeah, I'm getting attacked on another video for parting out a Mercury to get the two-tone green interior and new carpet for the wagon. People don't realize these cars are gone.
Tony, It is great to see an update on the Country Squire. Just remember, the more often you post videos, the more often you can benefit from the treasure trove of free advice we post in the Comments Section. 😉😉 🤣😂
That Marquis interior and carpet is sweet! Great barn find. It will be perfect. Does the burled wood on the Marquis dash fit the LTD? I’m excited to see the transformation!
I'm interested to see how the transfer of parts will go, especially the back seat. FYI, that side molding which is falling off may be a Ford parts kit, which was offered back in the day. Of course, you could buy two rolls of it at a parts store (or JC Whitney, as you mentioned) and install it. I think the Marquis was delivered without any radio. I think the reason that there are two window stickers is that Mercury increased the prices and send a new window sticker to the dealer. They used to do that for certain cars, I assume for those which were produced right before the prices were updated.
Wow! I've never seen two different window stickers before, but I reckon you may be right. I'm sure the back seat will have to go to a professional to have the material altered.
Tony, I spent over 40 years in the floor covering business in different capacities. I replaced the carpeting in a 1999 Taurus because of stains. The OEM carpet from Ford was cheap and I wanted a nicer quality. I replaced the original with a luxurious home carpet of the same color and it turned out fabulous. You have a 35 ounce cut pile carpet in that 78 wagon. You will probably find the original carpet to have a rotted jute back to it even though the top green color looks decent. It will have a bad smell to it, as well. You can use new home carpet padding with a new 35 ounce cut pile carpet from your local carpet store as a replacement. It won't be cut to fit, but if you would consider new carpet this way, it sure looks nice.
By the time I get done cleaning it, it will smell just fine. There is no way I want to use something non original Ford in any of my vehicles. The wagon already smells musty as it is. I'm pretty confident I'll get it in there and looking good.
I pulled the engines out of several of these when i was a teenager and scrapped the cars. 2 were this color with nice dark green interior. Id love to have one of those now. Dang.
@@tonyscarcare5657 for sure! I've always been a Ford guy but g body cars were so cheap back then I had to love them. I parted out and scrapped so many of them for next to nothing compared to what they bring now. Same with dent side ford's. My first truck build was one of them. I built it from 15 or more other trucks, sold some parts, threw together a couple work trucks out of them and scrapped what was left. I could retire off the dent sides, fox mustangs and g body's I destroyed back then. They were just so cheap and plentiful back then and I was poor. There's no way I could've known they would be valuable one day. Not that I would've had a way to safely store them the last 25 years while they went up in value. Haha
You are an ARTIST! I would do exactly the same if I could. I see the car mods as exactly as an art project would be, and it's fascinating technically as well. Cheers!
There’s a 78 grand marquis on Facebook for sale in Massachusetts around where I live with the identical colors as the one you bought for parts. It seems like a weirdly option car as I noticed that it doesn’t even have air-conditioning.
Yes, Sir! I've seen that one, and it has leather like I prefer, but the seats are really cracked up, and it's too far away. I think it's way overpriced for as filthy as it is, too.
Hey tony, thats awesome you found a parts car, looking foward to seeing the transformation on the wagon. Id also be interested in purchasing the battery tray and rear cigarette lighter assemblies if you wanna sell them. I have a 77 marquis and you know how hard it is to find parts lol. Keep the awesome videos coming.
Thank you! I'm sure I'll be parting the car out. I've been attacked so much for "ruining" a perfectly good car. On here and Facebook. Some people simply don't get it.
Having owned a 1978 Ford Country Squire wagon with the optional Landau Luxury Group in that exact same interior color maybe i can be of some assistance. Our car was dark jade green exterior though with the wood panelling. I can atest that the speaker grills are supposed to be green in color. Also the Ford's Landau Luxury group did NOT give you cigarette lighters in the rear door panels. Another point, you will need to transfer over the steering wheel center pad/horn bar as the Ford's Landau Luxury Group gave you the wood grain steering wheel. Our car did NOT have cruise control but had the wood grain center bar nonethesame. LTD's and LTD Broughams had the non woodgrain accents in the center of the wheel. And yes the embroidary on the back of the front seats was a beautiful scroll pattern that you'll just have to do without in this swap. No biggie but i do think the LTD's pattern looked nicer than the Mercury's hood ornament design on the seats. Love how the car is coming along though.
Thank you! Believe it or not, I have multiple NOS Luxury steering wheel centers new in the Ford boxes, as well as the dash woodgrain. I've been collecting this stuff for many years. The Landau Luxury Group used the same steering wheel wood trim as the Grand Marquis and Marquis Brougham. I didn't think that Ford gave you the lighters, which is fine with me.
Correct me if I’m wrong, I think the reason they did not have cigarette lighters in the backseat of the station wagon’s is because by that point in 1978 children were not smoking anymore?
Unless you are a good "seamstress", you may need the help of an upholsterer to alter the sedan covers to fit the smaller wagon cushions. @@tonyscarcare5657

No intermittent wipers on the Grand Marquis - as loaded as it is? Interesting. Those are the same door speaker grills used on the '92-'96 F-Series/Bronco trucks.
My black 78 Grand Marquis did not have intermittent wipers when I got it either. They were a stand-alone option. Unlike the Ford LTDs, where they came with the convenience group.
Hi Tony, Great find in the Mercury Marquis sedan. Would this car be salvageable as the body looks pretty good ? I know you intend to use it as a parts car however I have always liked that body style. That green color seems to be pretty rare both inside and outside. Perhaps you could advise me as to where to source 2 rear air deflectors for my 1987 and 1991 Ford Crown Victoria wagons ? Thanks, Phil.
Thanks, Phil! This car will definitely be parted out. I already have guys speaking up for parts. Honestly, I don't know where there are any late 80s or early 90s. Wagons are sitting at this time. I'm sorry I don't have better news for you.
Thanks for the reply Tony. Keep me in mind should you hear of any or come across any. Good luck with the Country Squire rebuild. Hope you get it to your car show.
Hey Tony I know your the man to ask when it comes to these cars. I have a 77 marquis and the heater is acting up. It's warm for about the first 5 minutes then the fan speed drops off and the heat isn't as warm. I do have the auto temperature control but I have it set on vent, not auto when it does it. Set on auto no heat cones out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
@@tonyscarcare5657 excellent. Will you transfer all ac heater and hose vents over from Merc too??? dashboard systems could be different.... Gonna be alot of work. Put old seats back in Merc
The rest of it will be parted out for people needed to repair other cars. I pointed out everything in the video that's wrong with it. It would never be worth what it would cost to put back on the road, let alone restore it.
Carpet is not what it used to be at all. The lush plush stuff is no longer around so grab what you can out of the wrecking yards to replace the bits and pieces that wear through.
Why don't you just take the stuff out of the Mercury that you need and replace it with the things you remove from the wagon? "There's no saving this car"...are you serious? I've seen some really bad Marquis' and that one is far from it. Oh well, you bought it, it's yours. Good luck.
I want to build the wagon I've always wanted, and I can't find the stuff anywhere. This Mercury isn't gonna win any car shows. It needs a lot. Try finding a hood ornament for it! I'm also getting attacked for taking the "Duraweave" interior out of the wagon. Therefore, I will be keeping that stuff, so if I ever sell it, the byer can put it back to the original if they want. There are Mercurys sitting all over Market Place that aren't selling if you want one.
I wouldn't call it mutilation since it's building my dream wagon, and the Mercury would cost a fortune to put back on the road, let alone being in desperate need of a costly paint job. I'm planning to do another video on the Mercury itself to see if it will run and what works or doesn't work.

@@tonyscarcare5657 Woaooop it is nice that you are doing so well with making your keyless entries, congrats from Claes.👍👍
Just curious Tony...will the sedan's rear seat upholstery have to be modified to fit the wagon's back seat frame?
Yes, it definitely will. I thought I mentioned that in the video. The material will have to have something done to it.
The fancy interior....with black speaker grilles. And are those cat paw prints on the seat?
I talked about the black speaker grills in the video, and that's mold on the seats. I can't believe the people who think that car should be saved! 🙄
Tony, i suspect you have a warehouse behind the barn filled with NOS Ford/Mercury parts, am I right? 🤣
Lol, most of that stuff is locked up in the house! 🤣
So what's going on in Dearborn in June? Something at the Henry?
Yes, Sir. Every year is Motor Muster. Huge show at The Henry Ford. I have several videos from last year with my 68 XL.
The 1975 Country Squires had the rear seat cigarette lighters, but after that they weren't available, probably for kids safety.
That makes sense. Thank you!
Thank you!
I'm not really sure because I've never had that problem. I would probably start with the auto temp sensor below the dash pad and above the glove box.
@tonyscarcare5657 thanks Tony, your the man.
You're welcome. I hope it gets you somewhere with it.
Do both of these cars have a 400-2V V8?
Yes
I like the Merc despite it's flaws.
You seem to have uncovered a strange dealer "mistake" ?
I guess that wrinkled up window sticker was supposed to be thrown away when a new one was sent. I never heard of that.
If the frame is gone, I agree, but if the frame is still whole, it can be saved.
Anyone is welcome to save it after I get what I want.
How you address back seat that folds down in wagon?
An upholstery shop.
@@tonyscarcare5657 excellent. Will you transfer all ac heater and hose vents over from Merc too??? dashboard systems could be different....
Gonna be alot of work. Put old seats back in Merc
cool
Thank you!
Original floormats too
Yep!
What is wrong with the donor car that makes it not worth saving? Looks like it has some good parts
The rest of it will be parted out for people needed to repair other cars. I pointed out everything in the video that's wrong with it. It would never be worth what it would cost to put back on the road, let alone restore it.
I had a 1976
Awesome!
The ford LTD landau had the rear cigarette lighters
I believe the earlier ones had them, but I can't find any mention of them in my 77 dealer brochure.
Carpet is not what it used to be at all. The lush plush stuff is no longer around so grab what you can out of the wrecking yards to replace the bits and pieces that wear through.
That's what I'm trying to do, but I definitely needed carpet.
No a hlu on roll of side door protector moldings
The seats on the wagon are nicer
Opinions!
You could swap the driveshaft out of the Mercury
It's so rusty!
Almost a shame to mutilate that Mercury interior, considering the excellent condition and all original.
I wouldn't call it mutilation since it's building my dream wagon, and the Mercury would cost a fortune to put back on the road, let alone being in desperate need of a costly paint job. I'm planning to do another video on the Mercury itself to see if it will run and what works or doesn't work.
Loaded up and headed to the local demo derby this weekend 😂
Yikes! Better not do that!
that car is too nice to part out. fix them both
Not possible!
What a nice find! Enjoy destroying it for front carpet and incorrect interior. Bravo! The derbiers are waiting. Sickening.
🤣😂🤣😂
