If the fish smells really fishy, it typically has gone rotten or started to.
Totally depends on the fish type, but yeah as a rule of thumb, fish shouldn't be over powering if it should usually smell like the sea. If it has trash can strength, throw it.

Gotta be careful cause restaurants be tricking you . You can order a catfish or grouper and they can switch it with a different cheap fish plus when it's cooked u couldn't even tell what type of fish

Where I live there's a seafood restaurant who serves wahoo and the meal with 2 sides and a small to medium sized wahoo cost $28.99. The wahoo usually runs $25-$30 a pound. It's not cheap and it's considered a prize fish when u catch one. Much similar to a king mackerel which is also a very good fish to eat blackened.
