ABOUT ME
Hi! My name is Margot and I am a professional artist and graphic designer. My parents like to joke that I was born with a paintbrush in hand. I started my career after graduating from the renown Parsons School of Design in New York City and spent over 15 years creating and designing for many of the world's top Fortune 500 brands and companies. My painting journey started as a side project and a creative outlet for me to step away from the computer, go back to my "roots" in fine art and to hone my skills as an illustrator and painter. I started posting some of my work on instagram and the rest is history. My work is inspired by all the things that I am passionate about. Ballet, travel, graphic design, color and finding a world of beauty in all facets of everyday life. I hope you'll join me in this TH-cam journey as I take you through all the tips, tricks and trade secrets I've gathered throughout the years. I hope I can teach you some of what I know, help you discover your creative voice and I hope you enjoy this Channel!

Thank you. I think the source of my disgust of my own art, is, I try to be a copy machine, instead of having fun, and making it lively. That's a beautiful painting.
Oh but be happy you’re not a copy machine! Let’s be honest, how many xerox machines have taken your breath away 😉
Yeah, I also struggle with interpretation of a subject. It seems much easier to copy than be creative.
As a handicapped artist, I don't have the luxury of traveling to beautiful locations, painting in my studio from references or memory; however, your video solidified a vague feeling I had, that with my obnoxiously bright colors, I can create beauty in my backyard. I recently began putting together a plein air kit because my husband suggested a series of local outings where I could paint and he would just relax and be there to take care of my needs (yes, he is a prince among men). In order to prepare, my plan is to set up in locations around my home and use just the kit. Your video has inspired me and now I am excited about the prospect!
I’m so glad this video could make a difference and breathe some newfound inspiration into your spaces. Enjoy!!
For a moment there I thought you were taking us on trip to Paris 😄.
Oh I wish 😜
@@Pointebrush 😂
Wow that texture & vibrant colors are so interesting & inspiring. 🥰Oh & I love 💕 how you combined David Hockey’s style of color with Vincent Van Gogh’s style of brush strokes! I never thought of that technique before as a self taught/educated artist. Brilliant idea 💡!!! Thanks so much for sharing this with me!! I have been painting things around my house, yard, & garden but this additional idea is really helpful & just what I needed to create. Enjoy your day Margot!
The world is your oyster! Enjoy!!
I, too, have that feeling that I'm not surrounded by the proper stimulus, when really it's all about the creative way we can interpret what we see. Thank you for reminding us to see things differently. 👀 Loved your oustanding painting, and Im also a fan of M Graham's luscious paints. 😍
Thank you Tracy and hope it inspires you to re-examine the boring little nooks around you 😉
Margot, I love the vibrancy and life in your final painting 😊…I keep a daily art journal and I try to draw something from my day…a pair of shoes, my groceries, a flower that I have seen, a bird that I have heard etc….taking inspiration from the seemingly ordinary can make you look at the world differently.😊
Shoes are the best to draw and paint! That’s a whole series right there. Glad you enjoyed the video! ❤️
Margot what I'm learning most from you is .. 'what if'. Again a video packed with amazing information on how to grow as an artist.. thank you 😊
“What if” is the beginning of all things that lead to growth. Glad you enjoyed the video! ❤️
The first painting I was happy with was looking out my backdoor, with a just right old pine. Then pre sunset striping the yard in gold and green from the bathroom window. Then there's an interesting bottom and side frame of trees in the living room and then sunriise and winter. Nothing spectacular, but if you really look, it's amazing what you see
What a fabulous video. Inspiring and beautifully scripted. You are a gifted teacher, storyteller, and artist. I love the way you connect the dots...lines... colors...shapes...etc.
Thank you so much Kelly 😘❤️
Great tutorial, Margot!!!!! And, Ohhhh, that Japanese Maple 💗 I love how you were able to step out of your comfort zone and paint such a beautiful landscape 😮💗💗💗 Amazing lesson in changing our perspective on our every day surroundings - thank you!!! Love David Hockney's work!!!
Hi Roxanne! So glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you for the kind words ❤️❤️❤️
I loved your final painting. Great information. So different then what you normally do.
TY and yes! No ballerinas in sight 🤪
The painting turned out beautifully!
Thank you! 🙏
Margot your videos are just the BEST! entertaining, informative, classy, just ALL the things! Thank you again for another great video!
Aww thank you and thank you for your kind words 🙏
Hi Margot. Thank you for this really helpful video. I will NEVER be a great realistic artist, so to capture something, even the ordinary, and make it special through good use of composition and colour is such an encouragement. Your painting turned out great...vibrant and alive with colour...And am inspired to try something like this from my own backyard. (Or someplace more exotic. ha ha.)
Absolutely love David Hockney. His book Spring cannot be cancelled is pure joy. His iPad drawings enable you to see how he builds a picture and what he changes along the way. Thank you for great video. 🎉
Thank you for this. I have been struggling with longing to “go places” and depression. I actually live in a beautiful place that people travel to for inspiration! The beginning of your video actually made me start crying! I will take your inspiration, and get out there and paint a desert scene today. I do tend to like painting in whimsical color, and I will try and push it further.
Margot, I keep asking myself "why are you watching these videos?" My art has no resemblance to what you create! So, I am answerng this question. I truly enjoy your style, design and talent for presenting art techniques, AND, I always learn something! Your quirky personality is entertaining and endearing. I'm a retiree that has picked up my art again after a hiatus. I sort of have taken the approach that at my age, I need to get to the point and not waste time watching unrelated videos!! BUT, I love watching your videos!! Thank you for taking so much time and care to share with all of us! I love the Ah Ha moments you give me each time I watch! 😊
This was very inspiring, Margot. I'm at a point in my current painting that I'm trying to decide if it's done. I like it, but I was hoping for something more whimsical. It's not whimsical enough. You have convinced me that I need to have more fun with color. Which I did a little, but not to the point of whimsical. That's my toughest art challenge.
I know the feeling. But the more you stop caring, the more it will set you free 🪽
The colors and style brought your subject to life. Thank you for your post.❤
Just amazing! If i were sitting down to paint this i would never have thought to put those beautiful (Van Gogh-ish) strokes on that tree!! Amazing painting and amazing inspiration and amazing imagination you have!!
Excellent video. Beautiful painting.
Another great video and like always so creatively presented. Love this!
This is the kind of how to art videos I want! Amazing. Thank you so much
Thanks for your Hockney-esk painting of your backyard, and the inspiration!! Now I just gotta find my camera!!
I look forward to your tutorials because they are informative, and much like the end product- both artistic and visually pleasing. Well done and thank you.
Thank you Margot 🎨💕 you always make me think even deeper about Art!!
Stunning painting and very inspiring strategy of creating artwork❤
Thank you so much Margot you spoke to me and i hear ya ❤❤❤❤❤
I love that painting you did!!!!!
Holy cats! I absolutely needed to hear this and I’m sure I can’t be the only one. So as a new artist and have been doing realistic paintings, this was huge! You mean, I can change things up? Who knew?
Just try and stop me now :)
The power is all yours! Can’t wait to see where it takes you 🔥
You are a true gem. Thank you for the hard work and time you put in to all your videos. The cinematography is outstanding, and you are always an inspiration.
Best video I have watched in a while. Thanks for sharing
Margo a brilliant pep talk … about personal perspective. Waking us up to our everyday view …. to find a painting in our everyday surroundings and making it come alive using our own individual style or to experiment using colour.
PS Thank you for introducing me to David Hockney.
Thank you 🙏🏼🎨✨💕
Oh I’m so glad you enjoyed it and better yet, that I was able to introduce you to Hockney’s wonderful world ❤️ Wishing you happy painting!
Thanks for the inspiration ☺️
Love it!!! You're so talented and funny! I love your videos! Thank you for sharing your talent with the world here in TH-cam! ❤
I LOVE David Hockney and the landscapes he does are amazing.
Your painting is so great! It's a good idea to try doing something in the style of someone - gives you a fresh perspective!
LindaH
I love this! I was pleasantly surprised to find this was a gouache painting 😊
Love the painting! And I appreciate your insights on interpretation of subjects to paint.
Glad it was helpful! 🥰
A creative and inspiring video, thank you.
Wonderful video! Thank you.
Beautiful painting
❤ Margot ! Wow ! You really captured the vibe of the tree in the style of Vincent Van Gogh ! It’s amazing 🔥
Thank you! 🙏
And also, if you still yearn to paint anywhere in the world. Streetview can work.
I did this last year, of a street in my own village, but the weather was bad and it was getting dark.
Margot,
Another delightful video!
Thanks for reminding me to not take one’s own surroundings for granted. Also, appreciate the reference to art history. Sharing famous artists work. It always brings a fresh perspective for me to think about.
The gouache looks brilliant. Love the versatility of this particular medium.
Oh my goodness! I am rambling. With that being said, “ Thank you for sharing your expertise.
Warm regards,
Martina
Thank you so much for this video. I'm sitting here today, trying to decide what to paint. This helps so much. I'm getting my paints and finding my inspiration right here.
Yay! That makes me happy to hear. Enjoy!
How lovely ❤
You are so awesome, Margot! I just adore you
Love you right back! 💕😘
Your videos are so entertaining and informative, I loved the end result, and I loved your new hairstyle it looks amazing. ❤❤❤
this was a really interesting video thankyou.. btw the image you painted was beautiful IMHO.
So helpful and instructive and inspiring, as usual. Having just returned from Alaska, I will take some of those photos and put them to use. Thank you.
Paint what you love as a Thanksgiving appreciation and you will ( mostly) love what you paint
Love that!
Love it and your story line.❤
Love your hair like that and the hat is cute too. I would paint that somewhere hanging in the yard
Thank you! ❤️ And what a fantastic idea!
Lovely garden and useful video 😊.
Hope it can inspire you!
A lovely lesson :)
Loved this video. It gave me inspiration. Thanks.
So glad!
I learned about Phi (the rule of thirds) in high school as a math side project. Nature is all about threes (not trees 😉) and if one like the geeky approach, throw in a dash of Fibonacci as well, to make it interesting. I am returning to my DSLR this year, enjoying to find the right composition, as this also makes me a better painter. It's about catching the interest of an ordinary scene, and you did that SO WELL 🥰 thank you for the inspiration 🙏🤗☀️
Thank you for your comments. Love the different take on perspective.
I have had a similar growing appreciation for Hockney -- love your mashup!
Thank you so much! And yes, most people get stuck at that diving board painting but there's so much more to him!
Wow, that's a huge Japanese Maple!
$$thousands of dollars worth $$
Beautiful!
We’re lucky! My area has lots of them. You see them all over when you drive around 🥰
I hope you frame this and hang it in your home! ❤ also your haircut is darling (or style? I’m not positive it’s cut but it seems new in some way at least)
Love this! Beautiful ❤ Louise and Emily
❤️❤️❤️
I love this video. I also love your blue Jean jacket. Thanks for the info. Have a greatrest of your week 😊
Thanks so much!
I loved this video, thank you Margot. I’m going to try this tomorrow. It’s supposed to be a sunny day.
Have fun! 🙌
Also - OH NO. Now I’m going to have to look into M Graham gouache! - groans, but heads for Blick’s-
Sorry 😂😂😂
What is that painting with the the women on the rocks??? The light! Wow
It’s a Winslow Homer. It’s called Saco Bay 🌊
This is so fascinating ☺☺
great vid as always, beautiful painting! i adore m graham so much too. last year when i was having a surgery i splurged and got a set of their pure pigments and they're amazing : )
Aren’t they the best? Hope this inspires you to take them out for a spin 😉
@Pointebrush yes i need to dig them out! i havent been painting nearly enough lately! i used to paint daily and one bout of the flu through off my schedule so bad!
Another genius video, Margot!
Glad you enjoyed it! 😘
Thank you for this highly inspiring video. 💖
Glad you enjoyed it! ❤️
Fabulous process giving you an awesome end result. Thanks for another fab vid. I'm from the same place as David Hockey and so his art has always been in my life. Like Hockney, I moved far away and now live by the sea in Australia (v lucky i know), and am currently working on a series of Hockney-esque sea scapes. Lots of fun. I've been using mixed media, watercolour, pencils and oil pastels. So much fun and like your painting, a punch result. Thanks again x
Sounds dreamy! Love your project! Enjoy!!
❤❤❤❤❤ thank you for this!!!
You are so welcome!
Inspiring as always!
Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏

I love this tutorial. It really makes me want to branch out and try a different style. I’m lucky enough to live in the PNW where there are beautiful choices everywhere. Although, I agree with you that the perspective can change the whole scene. You are wonderful, Margot! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and encouragement.
Sounds beautiful! Godspeed to you! ❤️
