Keep it up man, I always wanted to build a game and then 3 years ago I finally felt like my skills were where they need to be to comprehensively plan and build a game with some friends.
@@BofnerI had an idea by the way since no one has any videos on the matter. You could make ranking videos of each Darius game’s bosses and levels (separate videos for the games, levels and bosses).
@@gaminggoof1542 That's a good idea! I haven't played through every Darius game yet though, so I' not sure if I would feel justified in making such a broadly sweeping list would be the only problem
@@Bofner Well I hope you get around to all of them. At least the main games, Force and Twin. I’d love to see that. You could rank the games you know first though like Gaiden.
This is such a cool video om the quirks of the system. Also I think the game looks really fun as well. When I've got the free time I'll download it and drop you a few dollar for your troubles.😊
Is it possible to make a game for the Arcade? Because I have multiple retro game ideas for this (all scrolling shooters). The first is called Aerotale, it involves someone (or even two people) riding flying beasts into battle. The second is Aquastar (a spin off of Aerotale), where the player controls someone in Steampunk fish/marine life-themed spacecrafts/starships. (Got the idea from Darius). The third is a game that involves the players controlling someone in bird-themed starships fighting (against) insect-themed battleships. What do you think?
You can make anything that you want to if you've got the time and motivation. Though if you're not going to target any specifi machine, I would suggest setting arcade-style limits for a PC game instead and using something like Game Maker or Godot. Use a 4x3 aspet ratio (or 3x4 if it's TATE) native resolution of 240p or 256x256, and set some specific color limitations, hell even sprite or back ground limitations if you want. It'll be a hell of a lot easier than learning one of any number of arcade machine's assembly language.
@@DragonAndJaguar I think the themes are a good start. I would suggest thinking about what are going to be the key mechanics of your game. What's going to set it apart from the Darius games, or any other shooting games aside from the art direction. Start with something small in scope. Start with "Hello World", then get a character moving on a blank screen. Everything happens in small steps. Space Tonbow is a very simple game. There's really only 2 or 3 important things to know about from the player's perspective, but it took me a year to make the game so that those 3 things worked together without interfering or breaking the game.
Lovely stuff

That’s some hardcore Boffing right there.
Really impressive man making a game, even for old hardware.
Thanks!
