The praise doesn’t come any loftier when none other than John Lennon says you are his favourite singer and Led Zeppelin’s icon, Robert Plant, says you are one of rock’s best voices - On Burton Cummings
“Undun” is another of their songs that is in a similar style to this one. If you want to hear them ROCK listen to “No Time” or “American Woman”, or I’ll sue!
That song was playing on a 8 track in a car the night I met my future wife in 1972! Needless to say it is very emotional for me to hear it. I miss the love of my life!
I grew up with this great Canadian band. Some of their hits are "American Woman", "Laughing" "No Time", "Undun", "Hand Me Down World", "Share The Land", "Bus Driver", "Star Baby", "Albert Flasher", "Rain Dance" etc. Burton Cummings has one of the best voices out there. Randy Bachman later left to form (BTO) Bachman Turner Overdrive & had many hits. And Burton Cummings had a great solo career with lots of great songs.
If you like this song, some early Guess Who hits you might like, are "Laughing" and "Undun". I remember growing up in Manitoba. The whole province beamed with the success of this Winnipeg band.
If you are fellow Canadians then age is no excuse to not know our musical legends from every era. The amazing voice of Burton Cummings with The Guess Who (they headlined Woodstock) or in his solo voice is some of the best our great country has to offer. I was lucky enough to see Burton play during a medal ceremony at the Vancouver Olympics and he still sounded great. Hopefully you know our other legends like Joni Mitchell & Gordon Lightfoot. They may be before my time but music has no age and artists like these will live forever.
The Guess Who were the number one band in Canada for many years. And Burton Cummings went on to a successful solo career after. Randy Bachman, their guitarist went on to form BTO (Bachman Turner Overdrive) which was another top band in Canada for many years. Guess Who had hits with American Woman, Undun, Laughing, Albert Flasher, These eyes, No Time, No sugar Tonight, Star Baby, Dancing Fool...and Clap for the Wolfman. Burton Cummings had radio hits with "I'm Scared, Stand Tall, Fine state of affairs, My Own Way to Rock. BTO went on to have radio hits with "Taking Care of Business, Let it Ride, Roll on Down the Highway, Give Me your Money Please. You Aint seen Nothing Yet, Hey You, Blue Collar, Rock Is My Life, and Looking Out for number One. So...a lot of talent in that band!
Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman---what a combination!!! Amazing just how many of the oldies used horns, strings and woodwinds in their songs instead of just a bass, a guitar, piano and drums. Lyricists actually had some meaning to their songs without being dirty or trashy.. The Guess Who---great band!!!
A beautiful bittersweet song. I'm a old guy remember songs when they were brand new, Love that younger folks are listening to and appreciating music from these times in space.Enjoy it you will never hear music like this again.
There is a reunion tour from 2000 called Running Back Thru Canada where Cummings and Bachman are reunited and play some of their greatest hits to a hometown crowd. The concert includes an almost 15 minute rendition of American Woman, their biggest hit. It's a real gem of a show if you're a Guess Who fan.
"Share the Land" is one of their lesser known tunes, but in my opinion it is one of their best - you should add that one to your list of "The Guess Who" tunes you plan to react to.
Burton Cummings easily of my Top 10 favorite male singers. Other epic Guess Who songs; UNDUN 💥🔥 NO TIME HAND ME DOWN WORLD LAUGHING and SHARE THE LAND!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
I love late 60s into the 80s!!! Real musicians with tons of talent and real rockin soul!!!! Not today😐. Hats off to y’all for continuing to find our “BOOMER,” music. Talent, concerts, albums. 🔥💪👏
My generation had the absolute best music! So happy that y'all are diving into these songs that are pure talent. No auto tune etc. Another Bee Gees song is Closer than Close. Mo sings lead vocals.
Yes, and this is how we did it 50 years ago. And it's still better than anything you kids can do. A music machine, and learn how to recite poetry, and you're a superstar. Well, bless your heart
We always loved this one growing up. I (Chris) was fascinated by Burton Cummings' vocals from a very young age. My dad always had an 8 Track or 2 from them that we wore out in the car. One of Canada's great bands.
This song is one of my all time favorites. I had the Best of the Guess Who album on eight track, cassete, vynil, and cd. I wore out two of the eight track versions and three of the cassette versions. My daughter and I were going to use this song on the father daughter dance at her wedding but just before the wedding I took a bad fall at work and couldn't dance at her wedding. There are so many songs that they put out that are all bangers that you really should listen to them.
It was slightly before my time, I was only a toddler when this came out, but I grew up listening to this kind of stuff from my parents, aunts and uncles, their friends, etc. Randy Bachman went on to form Bachman Turner Overdrive with a couple of his brothers and Fred Turner. I think you'd like their song _You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet._ Also, _Let It Ride_ is a good one. And many others. They were a great band and very successful back in the '70s.
One of the best to ever come out of Canada. All 11 albums they made charted here in Canada. Seen them live more times than I know, great band. The list of hits is huge. 'No Time', 'Laughing', 'Undun', 'Bus Rider', 'American Woman' and Share The Land' to name but a few of the over 2 dozen hits from my Spotify list. Burton Cummings has given up all his royalties in his fight with the current band using the 'Guess Who' name which often performs with zero original members.
I love you guys doing the Guess Who. I've been a fan for 50 years, yes I'm one of them. the Guess Who is a fun rabbit hole to go down. Burton Cummings has one of the greatest voices in rock. YOU MUST listen to their most popular song American Women. listen to Burton's incredible range. also listen to Hand Me Down World, Share the Land, 8:15, No Time, So Long, Bannatyne; Truckin' Off Across the Sky; Glamour Boy and others. great band!
I was one of those people that were around when this song came out...lol... I was 13 when this song came out and I did like the song a lot, but at that time I was more into the Beatles and the Monkeys and my favorite new group at that time was Gary Puckett and The Union Gap... I got one of their 45 RPM records just the year before this song came out... It was lady It was Lady Willpower and I think I pretty much wore that one out by playing it so much... Anyway, I really liked Burton Cummings and the Guess Who... Burton Cummings had one of the best voices in rock and roll in my opinion... Great reaction guys... See you on the next one... Keep Being Awesome !!!...
I love Gary Puckett and the Union Gap! I was not thrilled with the later Beatles. Some songs, to me, were good, but I liked their earlier work better. But the Monkeys!!!
This was the Guess Who's first hit. I'm currently playing in a couple of bands with one of the original guitar players in another Canadian band from that time, Copper Penny. In fact, they played a lot of shows together, and they were recording at a studio in New York City at the same time that the Guess Who were recording this tune. As the story goes, when they heard the playback of These Eyes, everybody knew they had a hit on their hands.
I’ve always adored Burton Cummings. These Eyes and Laughing are my two favorites from the Guess Who. Stand Tall is a gorgeous song from his solo career.
When my sister and I were teenagers she was so in love with, Burton Cummings. She was so far ahead of me in rock. Only later did I realize what a voice he had.
I’ve been to see the guess who Around seven or eight times Burton Cummings just last year still can sing another. One of Canada‘s great talents. He always says in concert that this song changed their life forever.
Great song, they were masters both in the studio and also live. They were the first concert I ever saw in 1971, were absolutely fabulous, to hear how good they were around that time, hear their Live at the Paramount, tremendous double live album, do an unreal jam of American Woman into Trucking Off Across the Sky that is one of the best musical rock pieces I have ever heard. Do check it out sometime, you will be freaking amazed! They were equally adebt at crafting timeless singles or rocking out like their 70s brothers, jamming out and blasting away as Burton Cummings does a Jim Morrison like rap about women and the times. Great stuff! Enjoy. 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎶
Maestro (Fresh Wes) is not unknown. Especially in Canada. Much Music was still a thing and his videos were massive. He kicked the door open, and later, the Toronto rap scene blew up thanks to him, Kardinal Offishall, Choclair, and Northern Touch
This song was one of the most played on radio in the USA. You should check out their song American Woman. I love how you appreciate good music that isn’t made anymore
I haven't heard this song for quite a while! So good. I LOVE the bass in this song. To me, the bass really stands out. The whole composition is excellent!
This was really popular when I was in grade school, love the Guess Who. Burton Cummings has a fantastic voice, he had another great song in the 70's "Stand Tall."
I just now heard the tinkling of bells in the background. I've been listening to this song since it came out and maybe I'm rediscovering the bells. I've always loved the hook/melody, but can't sing that fast anymore. Good reaction. Thanks for sharing.
I was a kid when this was new, but I remember it from way back then. It was a big enough hit that I heard it growing up in southern California. What a great song! Nice reaction!
The Guess Who has so many great tunes - No Time, Undun, Running Back To Saskatoon (a personal favourite), just to name a few but then you get to their all-time epic classic, American Woman. It was a huge hit everywhere. When you react to it please, please use the studio version that includes the unique bluesy opening that has lead singer Burton Cummings spelling out the title to American Woman. It's a great lead in to legendary guitarist Randy Bachman's iconic guitar riff.
I was born in 69 so technically I might have been here when this came out. So in 69 my grandmother turned 46, I spent a lot of my childhood with her and in my teen years I remember playing her records on her record player all day long. Of course she had every Elvis album ever released, but she also had The Best of The Guess Who and Jethro Tull Aqualung.. Since I didn't like Elvis that much you can guess what I listened to the most..
The praise doesn’t come any loftier when none other than John Lennon says you are his favourite singer and Led Zeppelin’s icon, Robert Plant, says you are one of rock’s best voices - On Burton Cummings
Burton Cummings is one of a kind.
His Ego is as big as his Talent😂 Love the Guess Who ❤
Great Canadian Band from 1969 to 1975. ❤❤ Excellent. Saw them many times live here in Canada 🇨🇦 These Eyes was their first top ten song in the USA.
I never knew that. Thx
No Sugar Tonight was the B side of their huge #1 single in both the USA and here in Canada - American Woman. 🇨🇦
Burton Cummings' voice is instantly recognizable. Soooo good. This was a hit, but I think 'American Woman' is their best known.
Yeah but my favorite iś...
"No time".
But American Woman was not his best in my opinion
Randy Bachman Shines! Love the Live from Manitoba video Long version of American Woman!! Most don’t realize BTO was Randy from the Guess Who!
You must be an American because it's far from there best.
You know, all of us "old people" were singing along because we know all the words!
You Bet!
Your exactly right! I'm 70 years old singing right along cuz I know every word.😅❤
Blood Sweat And Tears is worth a look if you're liking this. "You've Made Me So Very Happy"
And When I Die another great BS&T tune!
Two classics.
Yes--similar style/sound, and GREAT song choice!
Burton Cummings has one of the best voices in rock. Just brilliant. o
Such a simple keyboard intro but it's absolutely iconic and wonderful.
I miss the time when songs had iconic beginnings . That were immediately recognizable.
Burton Cummings voice is so amazing 👏
Their best known song is American Woman
Undun
True, but not (possibly) the best. For me, No Sugar Tonight/ New Mother Nature. Also Clap for the Wolfman.
must listen to it live.....they really do it up right!!!!
Let it ride!
Taking care of business. Elvis loved that song so much he made it his motto. TCB
I'm really happy this was my music growing up ❤
Burton Cummings is one of the best vocalist of our time. His work after the Guess Who, is great.
Great reaction, I love to hear these oldies through the eyes AND ears of younger people
I grew up with this great Canadian band.
And Clap for the Wolfman, Broken, Hang on to Your Life and others. Then the deep cuts - Dirty, Guns Guns Guns, One Way Road to Hell....

"Clap For The Wolfman"
👏👏👏 he gonna rate your record high.😊
If you like this song, some early Guess Who hits you might like, are "Laughing" and "Undun". I remember growing up in Manitoba. The whole province beamed with the success of this Winnipeg band.
Also love “Rain Dance”
SMILE. I'm 73. An old Vietnam veteran. I remember these old songs very well.
Thank you for serving our country 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲❤️🤍💙

As others here have commented, "American Woman" should be your next song by The Guess Who
Saw the guess who live.. incredible band live..sounded as good as the radio
The Guess Who were the number one band in Canada for many years. And Burton Cummings went on to a successful solo career after. And the orchestral arrangement adds to the swell of emotion. Love it.
yes there are more instruments than bass and drums like todays music
The pride of Winnipeg Manitoba
Burton Cummings also sang a song titled Stand Tall, also demonstrating his vocal talents to a high degree. o
The ACTUAL Guess Who, accept no substitutes...
A beautiful bittersweet song. I'm a old guy remember songs when they were brand new, Love that younger folks are listening to and appreciating music from these times in space.Enjoy it you will never hear music like this again.
Kudos for spotlighting one of the best bands from your neck of the woods
One of those CLASSIC 60's tunes that everyone knows. Gotta love the synth & bass.

A great amount of orchestration with this one. A great song by The Guess Who.
"Share the Land" is one of their lesser known tunes, but in my opinion it is one of their best - you should add that one to your list of "The Guess Who" tunes you plan to react to.
I remember listening to their greatest hits cassette in my car as we were cruising and Burton Cumming’s vocals are stellar

My generation had the absolute best music! So happy that y'all are diving into these songs that are pure talent. No auto tune etc. Another Bee Gees song is Closer than Close. Mo sings lead vocals.
So I was 8 yrs old when this was released. Enjoyed the listen.
The Guess Who were appreciated then and now. Music befor synthisizers is marvelous.
"American Woman" should be your next song by them. In my opinion, it's their best.
I agree that it should be next and it should be the album version with the proper intro, Burton singing the letters of American.
Yeah, don't do it without the intro (extended version).
Agree.@@robertpearson8798
You have to cover American Woman, it'll blow you away.
This song was one of their first big hits. Great tune. Cool strings. Awesome bassline!
Yes, and this is how we did it 50 years ago. And it's still better than anything you kids can do. A music machine, and learn how to recite poetry, and you're a superstar. Well, bless your heart
I'm one of those that was around back then. My first concert! 😁

I can't not think of the movie Superbad when I hear this song.
"He's a freak. He's the fastest kid alive."
Lmaooo, I was looking for this comment. I've never heard this actual song but as soon as the chorus played, I laughed so hard 😂😂😂
The beauty of a time when wedding vows meant something.
Burton Cummings was crazy good vocalist. He also played the flute live on some stuff.
It was slightly before my time, I was only a toddler when this came out, but I grew up listening to this kind of stuff from my parents, aunts and uncles, their friends, etc.
Randy Bachman went on to form Bachman Turner Overdrive with a couple of his brothers and Fred Turner. I think you'd like their song _You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet._

I was a baby when it was released, but I’ve heard this all of my life. Such a great band, and I love this song, as well.
Love this one! I remember watching them perform this live on The Midnight Special!
My late wife's favorite rock band, and one of the few we ever saw in concert together. Burton Cummings just had an amazing voice!
This was the Guess Who's first hit. I'm currently playing in a couple of bands with one of the original guitar players in another Canadian band from that time, Copper Penny. One of my all-time favorite songs
When my sister and I were teenagers she was so in love with, Burton Cummings. She was so far ahead of me in rock. Only later did I realize what a voice he had.
With age comes wisdom my friend...great song great reaction..
No Time is my favorite along with this and American Woman. (there biggest hit)
"Laughing" is another one of my favorites!
Another one of my lifetime favorites. There are so many from our time. I’m 67. you should of listened to this one first. Lol.
This whole album is great. Very underrated.
Burton Cummings, a true virtuoso. One of the finest voices I ever heard!
I’ve been to see the guess who Around seven or eight times Burton Cummings just last year still can sing another. One of Canada‘s great talents. He always says in concert that this song changed their life forever.
1969 was the beginning of my senior year in high school!🤣 What an incredible time to be young, wild, and a little crazy!🤪🤗❤️✌️
Love love love this song!
Try "No Time" and "Share The Land" - also when they broke up - partly they became "BTO" Bachman Turner Overdrive
Great stuff! Enjoy. 🎵🎸🎤🎸🎹🎶
Saw them in concert winter of 1977 at college. Loved it
Absolutely love this album, still have it on LP!
“AMERICAN WOMAN”, their biggest and most recognizable hit. 😁❤️🇨🇦. Burton Cummings is a very underrated vocalist.
Maestro (Fresh Wes) is not unknown. Especially in Canada. Much Music was still a thing and his videos were massive. He kicked the door open, and later, the Toronto rap scene blew up thanks to him, Kardinal Offishall, Choclair, and Northern Touch
rap groups can not seem to write there own music always have to sample
@@joeslish-p1prapping is all about the words. Hip Hop is all about the music.
Don't forget Snow.
They have an extensive catalog of music. They are definitely worth a listen.
After they broke up, Burton Cummings went on to have a solo career & Randy Bachman went on to form Bachman-Turner Overdrive (B.T.O.) with Fred Turner.
This song was one of the most played on radio in the USA. You should check out their song American Woman. I love how you appreciate good music that isn’t made anymore
I think this is their best song. It is also in my top 3 all-time favorites.
One of the best. Definitely one of my favorites. My first concert, too.
Enormously popular in the US, and one of my favorites.
I got to meet the band many, many years ago, nice guys.Great musicians great songs

First heard at a slumber party. . .one of my favorites ever since
The Guess Who has so many great tunes - No Time, Undun, Running Back To Saskatoon (a personal favourite), just to name a few but then you get to their all-time epic classic, American Woman. It was a huge hit everywhere.
