It depends on the water temp mostly If the temp doesn't change often then every 3-6 months is good depending on how much you surf If temp do change a lot, then you want to rewax so you don't have super soft wax in hot water or super stiff and not tacky wax in cold water
For old wax I use a razer blade, did a board resto not too long ago, old 90s high performance board. Old wax sucks, either use a razer blade, hot water or sun. Hair dryers dont work, if you use a razer blade just be careful not to scratch the glass! A normal waxcome sometimes works, one I use doesn't work very well.
Guys can you show the same for a soft top , could not find anything ! Soft boards are more fragile and afraid that hair dryer or hot water will cause it to shrink and ruin it ?
Jack N. 0 seconds ago Great instructional guys! Thanks to this video I was able to restore an old board very similar to yours using the methods you laid out. 3 days work solo but we’ll worth the effort.
@@bushwhackjack1978 It's literally called the Amazing Pickle sponge... But apparently I don't really need it. lol Thanks for for the tutorial here. It will help!
I know we all have a tendency to be anal about this stuff, but if you are just rewaxing a board it makes so much more sense to leave the layer of film on top rather than wiping it down to nothing. It will help pick up new wax easier and you won't get clusters of buildup as easily.
Hey surf dudes! I do house cleanout and came across a 1962 Surfboard with a lot of old wax. I'll clean it as you've shown, but can I leave it untaxed and let the new owner do that part?
Never seen a surfboard in real life, so pardon my ignorance... ...but why on earth not make them with a high-friction surface? Like, e.g., the dimple side of table tennis bats?
+BenjWarrant that's a great point! Mainly due to personal preference, and also you don't want suuuper high friction because 80% of the time you're in the prone position paddling on it. More comfortable for your chest :)
It’s due to ware and tare and other stuff like personal preference and depends what your wearing I body board and I personally like to apply sticky bump without base coats and sometimes I don’t even use spaces I ride
They used to mix sand into the resin on early surfboards, but imagine paddling a board with a sandpaper grip with your bare chest against it. Its gonna hurt like shit, wax was the solution to that problem
Tell us how to get jammed Futures fins out boys. Be useful. BTW heat lamps and sun won't be doing your boards any good. Mineral spirit is called turpentine or turps in Australia (do not put it on your car paint).
Only buy the finest grade of mineral spirits from fine paints of Europe or your high-end art supply store! If it doesn't cost at least $30 then how can you be sure you're you're doing a good job?
Bruh Sick Wax JOB !!! , I dont get why you would need cold water wax I change over to Sex wax and loving it , they have a kind thats for 55 degrees and up Warm water is what it is . I live on the East Coast aka New England and right now the water is 40 degrees ! thats when Cold water wax is Needed lol .. its pretty funny the other day i was surfing why it was Snowing out lol .. people are asking me are you cold ? . i said I will be when i get out of my Wet suit lol ... .. any way Killer wax Job and Shred that Stick !.. YEEWWW ...
9 robe changes, 13 bong hits, and 3 days later
Board on point, missed the swell.
Great ad for Sticky Bumps😎✌️🏄🏼♂️
yeeeeeeew!
how to spend an entire weekend waxing a board while doing bong rips with your buddies.
not denying this
It's the proper way to do it
I'm old and had to re-aquaint myself with weed to be able to watch it!
Put it Sun, 5 min, take off old wax, in shade apply new wax. Done. 🏄♂️
9 feet.. Surfing the entire Pacific at one time.
Its on!!
This is so informative! Great job, fantastic reporting!🌻🌼🐝 Keep it up 🙌
When I de wax my surfboard I use a blow dryer to melt the wax and it works very well
After how many surf sessions do you typically clean the board this way? That looks like so much work :)
It depends on the water temp mostly
If the temp doesn't change often then every 3-6 months is good depending on how much you surf
If temp do change a lot, then you want to rewax so you don't have super soft wax in hot water or super stiff and not tacky wax in cold water
Dude i just use a wax comb without heat and it only takes like 2 minutes
HAHA just tried it....and its TRUE!!!! hahahaha
You right, just use the sun
F@ck yeah, just started surfing again after 30 years and I'm blown away by how complicated some young dudes make shit.
I just have a simple wooden Victoria skim board. Do you think a blow dryer could speed up the process?
1968 Laguna Beach I saw a young kid that had stuck squares of wax in a pattern on his board. It was really squirrely, to say the least!
Removing wax while smoking wax concentrate 💯🙌😂
Great to see more and more wax on the board and more and more redness in the eyes.
250w lamp at 25cm distance and move it slightly ahead of what you clean. Done in 30min.
boom!
Use an iron with a wet clean rag, check to make sure it doesn't get too hot.
Guys can you show the same for a soft top , could not find anything ! Soft boards are more fragile and afraid that hair dryer or hot water will cause it to shrink and ruin it ?
You should be careful with a soft top! the hot water will probs work better

Hey Hey! I started surfing recently and my friend told me to buy the pickle wax remover sponge thing. Have you used that before?
I have not used that!
@@bushwhackjack1978 It's literally called the Amazing Pickle sponge... But apparently I don't really need it. lol Thanks for for the tutorial here. It will help!
Dude was totally wasted at first. He finally sobered up at night tho.
You should mention not to use heat to get wax off eps boards it will melt the foam
Good point!

Slippery when wet
did you ever try to play table tennis in salt water?
It’s due to ware and tare and other stuff like personal preference and depends what your wearing I body board and I personally like to apply sticky bump without base coats and sometimes I don’t even use spaces I ride
They used to mix sand into the resin on early surfboards, but imagine paddling a board with a sandpaper grip with your bare chest against it. Its gonna hurt like shit, wax was the solution to that problem
Probably the only perk of surfing cold water is that the soft wax is way easier to get off
Try a heat gun next time. They are cheap at harbor freight.
Why not use the mineral spirits from the get go?
The wax is very thick so the mineral spirits are more meant as a finishing polish 👍🏻
Tell us how to get jammed Futures fins out boys. Be useful. BTW heat lamps and sun won't be doing your boards any good. Mineral spirit is called turpentine or turps in Australia (do not put it on your car paint).
Use a hair drier and paper towels
Can't you guys just use a hair dryer?? Thats what I use and its a lot easier
+Ian Robb what a much better idea!! Great tip
Ian Robb I will use that when I get my new surfboard thnx
+Dylan Griffin wooo!
it’s the bong hits man, the bong hits
Boiling water in a teapot and poured on your stick.

What is the name of the first song?
Gringo Esspecial by the Salty Dukes!
Do you need to wax a foam board?
+S ML nope!
Its mostly preference
Can you give me the details on the mineral spirits so I can buy the right stuff?
+Alicia Shirley sure thing! Mineral spirits are typically in the chemical section of any hardware store. Will be clearly labeled "mineral spirits"
Only buy the finest grade of mineral spirits from fine paints of Europe or your high-end art supply store! If it doesn't cost at least $30 then how can you be sure you're you're doing a good job?
Can u do this on a soft board?
+Sophie Brock waxing a soft top board is not the move, kindaa kook move unless you reaaaaaally need the grip! Happy shreds
@@bushwhackjack1978 hahaha damn no need to roast the person
Thanks so much bro🤙
what is mineral spirit is alchaool
+Frederico Nicolau it's just a generic term for the chemical I used, Mineral Spirits
try margarine or butter next time, it´s cheaper, really natural (!) and works as well (and theres always some in the fridge)...
Turpentine
