Ugggghhhh I run into SO many Kens in ranked. Literally like 50% of the time, nowadays. It's so annoying! Anyways, thanks for the video! It's very helpful.
hey idk if you saw this but light spd is actually 5 frames, and it reaches so far that it always punishes the low jinrai kicks followup. much better than trying to parry and getting pc thrown by ken :>
Also, even if you damage him well, he just falls back and hadokens the shit out of you. Hadoken into anti air or low, rinse repeat. Gief really has no tools to deal with him except of capitalizing on his mistakes.
Really appreciate these videos. I saw you are doing JP next, but currently I'm the most lost against Cammy. It seems just all her normals beat Giefs and she is just so fast. It's not that I cant beat her, but even if I win against a Cammy I feel that I don't understand what is the optimal way to play the matchup.
I’ll definitely add her to the list 👍🏽 I’m probably doing Rashid next since he’s the new hotness and we’re likely to run into a bunch of them, but Cammy will be right behind him. She gave me a lot of trouble too.
It works for the light version, but I wasn't able to replicate it with the medium or heavy versions, so I chose to focus on parry since it's hard to tell which version they're using in the heat of a match.
@@andoru69I tested this out right now using Ken with Zangief set to SPD after block. You can interrupt light jinrai kick from following up with a second kick by using spd. Medium jinri kick is a different story. You can interrupt medium jinrai kicks using spd if they follow up with a medium kick, but if they follow up with light or heavy, you'll get punish countered. Parrying is better because it's a reliable way to punish where as trying to interrupt after the first kick with an spd puts you in a mixup since the medium jinrai kick can punish counter if they decide to follow up with the light or heavy kick. Plus, light and medium jinrai kick can be hard to distinguish from each other
You can, but it depends on which version of Jinrai he uses. You can only DI the light version. If he does medium, he has enough time to counter DI. If he uses heavy, you can't even attempt a DI if he does the low followup. Fuzzy guarding does work, but I figured parry would be an easier option for new players to practice.
@@MexicanUppercuts yeah, honestly I'm so bad at the game all I can do is play Zangief with that SPD lol... Currently at silver 4 with nothing but cheesing that 😅

Fantastic guide. Hope to see more guides for our boy Gief in the future!
Não esperava te encontrar aqui enquanto tô tentando melhorar meu gief kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
This was awesome. Would love to see matchups against blanka, manon, and Kimberly
I’ll get there eventually 😂
Very cathartic to see some solutions to this rage-inducing bastard. Also glad you shared your feelings towards him instead of being polite haha!
Amazing video man. This helped me a TON tonight.

It’s a rough matchup for sure. He punishes you extremely hard for each mistake and he’s so safe. I’m glad this helped you out 😊
Lol now after evo i got 20 kens in a row
The forward m.kick is a great setup for an SPD. I've seen people purposely whiff with a forward m.kick to set up for an immediate light punch SPD.
Good stuff bro
Thank you very much for this guide, very helpful

I’ve had it whiff a few times, so I didn’t mention it since I didn’t want it to happen to other people 😭
Love the thumbnail
Sick guide! Definitely learned a lot here. Can’t wait for the next one
Great video, subbed
Thanks for this man!! 👌👌
very good

This is great, can you make more videos quicker so i can learn all the matchups and get ready for Evo lol
I’m working on it 😂 I’ve got a JP video in the works, so keep an eye out for it! I’m glad these are helping my fellow Gief mains 🍻

@@MexicanUppercuts Thanks, really appreciate you doing those Gief centered matchups. Hope it results in more views, cause it's super helpful.
I thought this video was about punishing Gief?
Shouldnt all of his -3 and -5 moves should be spd-able if blocked?

I saw you beat up a jp in icfc 5 minutes ago!!!!!! . Funny.
FluxWaveZ is a god. I need to get some more practice against him 😂 check out his stream. He’s really good and super chill.
How do you stop dragon lash loop when you are cornered using gief? Down lk is a 50% right now.
I use down LP if I can see it coming. You lose distance, but most Ken players are thirsty. Look for the next movement or read, afterwards.
I'll try and apply some of this stuff to my game. Thanks for the clear and concise info!
I’m glad it helped 😊
why parry the jinrai when you can interrupt low and medium jinrai with sdp after the first kick
