    I just graduated with my BS in Information Systems & I've been studying more content to get ready for my professional career. These videos are more helpful than some of my college classes.

    I love the Stargate series implementation in your videos. For some reason, it makes it that much more comprehensible for me

    I always say Professor Messer to the tune of "Conjunction junction" from Schoolhouse rock

    does a stateless firewall overlook a new tcp connection by looking at the syn flag of the incoming packet?

    • @professormesser
      @professormesser  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A stateless firewall doesn't keep track of state, so it doesn't care if the packet is the first (SYN) packet or not. A stateless firewall has no concept of a TCP or UDP flow.

    Probably dumb, but at the end--whereas port 80 was set for local port access in the firewall (indicating a local web server) port 123 was set for outgoing--but was described as "obviously running a local ntp server". Was that a misstatement, or am I missing something?

    • @professormesser
      @professormesser  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Port 123 is commonly used by the ntp (Network Time Protocol) service.

      @@professormesser Sorry, it was the "local" vs "out going" that confused me. If it was set for outgoing in the firewall--it was not for a local ntp server, right? It would be to communicate with an external ntp server...?

    Hi, I'm very new to this field but trying to learn quickly! Will there be questions about specific firewall rules? You mentioned some but there's thousands overall so what are the most common ones?

      Search google for "comptia security+ sy0-501 exam objectives" and look at the pdf document that comes up. I think you're just responsible for knowing the different terms under "Firewall" in section 2.1

    hi, is there a difference between web application firewall and application firewall? is WAF act just like a proxy? or is there additional functionality on top of proxy?

    • @professormesser
      @professormesser  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A web application firewall (WAF) and an application-aware firewall are two very different technologies, and they are both designed for different functions. WAFs are discussed in section 2.4.

      @@professormesser Hi Prof Messerm thank you for the reply, could you kindly explain what is the difference in WAF and application aware firewall? in terms of the usage and functionality?

    tuples should be pronounced with the LONG U, not short u - tue' pal.

    • @professormesser

      Either pronunciation is acceptable.
      Don't get me started on "scone."
