'At Last The 1948 Show'. I vaguely remember it, but do know my dad was a fan, possibly due to the fact that it featured the ditzy and very pretty Aimi McDonald, who seemed to wear rather scanty costumes. 'The Man With The Stick', was from 'Vic Reeves' Big Night Out'. He was played by Bob Mortimer, or occasionally, Simon Day, with a paper helmet covering his head. The audience were encouraged to shout out: "WHAT'S ON THE END OF THE STICK, VIC?" A rather dark and sad character, it turned out that Vic and Bob had sold his children into slavery, and they now worked down a tin mine ("Do they use tools or bare hands down there?" "Bare 'ands!") TMWTS got so wound up by this, that on the very last episode of VRBNO, he staggered on stage, very, very drunk, and shot Vic, Bob, and Les, and then himself. Now that's British surreal comedy for you.
