Take It to the Limit is number one for me as well. It’s probably one of my all time favorites, period. It came out when I was a kid, and always brings back fond memories. I used to beg my uncle to put that record on. Meisner has such a great voice. And nothing can beat Henley’s falsetto on “One of These Nights.” Just so cool!

I would suggest ‘The Boys of Summer’ is as good as anything he did with his then former band.

What differentiated the eagles was Henley’s ability to craft American stories.... very underrated lyricist.... somewhere between a Dylan and hank Williams sr in his ability to create heartfelt heartland stories.
True.... he’s an overlooked craftsman of well honed arrangements mixed with lyrical depth.... he did it for a long time and in different genres. For ex desperado ranks with cash and hank sr in re to packing concise truth in densely laid out symbols using eternal physical metaphors of the western landscape and myth. Hotel calif on the other hand is blonde on blonde level amer surrealism. And dirty laundry is woke alarm bell protest on an enemy of left or right, media exploitation. He isn’t left preach either like the boss... he probably has another card up his sleeve too.

When I first listened to Eagles, instantly fell in love with the band. My all time favorite. Played the cassettes on boombox over and over till it wore out. The one song I always skipped over was Already Gone. Cannot stand it and hated it. But over time, become one of my few favorites..so ironic! To me, the band is like American Beatles bec like them, they had a shirt career, produced not many LPs and gone onwards to solo careers, some successful. The parallels are eerily striking.
1. Pretty maids all in a row 2. Desperado 3.New Kid in Town 4.Lyin Eyes 5.Wasted Time 6.Last good time In town (from Long Road out of Eden) 7.After The thrill is gone 8.Take it to the limit 9.Ol 55 10.Tequila Sunrise

It's one of those eternal questions isn't it? Only this morning the man at the shop was expressing his surprise at Douglas Adams using that tune for the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy. 😩
Hey Pete, nice list. The Eagles, imo told the tale of the traditional Male role in a modern America. Totally of their time. A brief summary is given with each track. .. I'll give my top 3, today😃 3. Eagles have been one of my favorite bands for as long as I can remember. My parents used their 2 CD greatest hits album as one of the travel discs for the car when I was little, and we’ve recently gone back to using it. It also helps that Eagles are my grandma’s favorite band of all time, so we connect with their music. So I’ll try to make a coherent top 10 list, and hopefully a concise honorable mentions list. Here we go... 10. After the Thrill is Gone 9. Life in the Fast Lane 8. Love Will Keep Us Alive 7. Desperado 6. Too Many Hands 5. Victim of Love 4. Those Shoes 3. Seven Bridges Road 2. Take It to the Limit 1. The Last Resort Honorable Mentions: One of These Nights The Best of My Love Heartache Tonight In the City Hotel California Take It Easy Visions Wasted Time Certain Kind of Fool Lyin’ Eyes New Kid in Town I Can’t Tell You Why Get Over It The Long Run Journey of the Sorcerer Teenage Jail Witchy Woman Doolin-Dalton Midnight Flyer James Dean The Girl from Yesterday Most of Us Are Sad Ol’ 55 Pretty Maids All in a Row The Sad Cafe I know I’m missing a couple songs that I really love, but I got the main ones. Hurts to have “Best of My Love” outside my top 10, but I guess I just like 10 Eagles songs a little more than it
In no order: Already Gone Outlaw Man Certain Kind of Fool One of These Nights Take It Easy The Last Resort Take the Devil Doolin' Dalton/Desperado (reprise) The Sad Café Lyin' Eyes
I love your top 10. I can really get into this top 10. The long run is an excellent album. I played it to death when I was a teenager. I forgot how many great songs that album has on it. I'm going to get together my top five at least and put them here sometime today or tomorrow. Eagles are great melodic Harmony band with beautiful vocals. Joe Walsh and Don Felder I love them. I think the greatest guitar duo or maybe in the top five in the whole history of rock music.
Here are my top 10 but it could easily be 50!! 1. Bitter Creek. This song has the best outro ever! This entire "concept" album is a desert island disc. 2. Good Day in Hell. A hidden gem from the "On the Border" album. 3. The Last Resort. Ending track on "Hotel California" that tells of California's innocence lost. 4. One of these Nights 5. Chug All Night 6. Outlaw Man 7. Disco Strangler 8. Out of Control - I would listen to this song before going out drinking in Juarez back in the mid 80's 9. On the Border 10. Witchy Woman
I find most of the Eagles discography to be quite underwhelming, for the most part, but the first six albums definitely have some standouts. Here’s my top 10: 1. Witchy Woman 2. Bitter Creek 3. Out Of Control 4. Take The Devil 5. Chug All Night 6. Hotel California (mainly for the closing guitar solos) 7. Good Day In Hell 8. Life In The Fast Lane 9. Doolin-Dalton 10. Love Will Keep Us Alive
C'mon Pete - "One Of These Night" was "somewhat of a hit" What? It hit #1.

Try and love again was one of their most underrated imo. Randy Meisner was so incredibly gifted with his voice and it really showed here. The song also gave us some amazing group harmonies throughout the song and in the outro. Very well written too.
Not a big Eagles fans but One of these Nights is truly magnificent.
My favorite Eagles song is "Visions" and I think it's because it sounds so unlike their other songs that makes it best for me . Life in The Fast Lane another cool Eagles song . What differentiated the eagles was Henley’s ability to craft American stories.... very underrated lyricist.... somewhere between a Dylan and hank Williams sr in his ability to create heartfelt heartland stories.
Agree. Building the Perfect Beast has to be one of the best solo records of all time.
True.... he’s an overlooked craftsman of well honed arrangements mixed with lyrical depth.... he did it for a long time and in different genres.

No 1 for me will always be "Seven Bridges Road", all that was great about them vocally in that band!

Journey of the Sorcerer was the theme to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
yes it surprises many people that Douglas decided to use that too
It's one of those eternal questions isn't it? Only this morning the man at the shop was expressing his surprise at Douglas Adams using that tune for the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy. 😩
Hey Pete, nice list. The Eagles, imo told the tale of the traditional Male role in a modern America. Totally of their time. A brief summary is given with each track. ..

10. After the Thrill is Gone
9. Life in the Fast Lane
8. Love Will Keep Us Alive
7. Desperado
6. Too Many Hands
5. Victim of Love
4. Those Shoes
3. Seven Bridges Road
2. Take It to the Limit
1. The Last Resort
Honorable Mentions:
One of These Nights
The Best of My Love
Heartache Tonight
In the City
Hotel California
Take It Easy
Visions
Wasted Time
Certain Kind of Fool
Lyin’ Eyes
New Kid in Town
I Can’t Tell You Why
Get Over It
The Long Run
Journey of the Sorcerer
Teenage Jail
Witchy Woman
Doolin-Dalton
Midnight Flyer
James Dean
The Girl from Yesterday
Most of Us Are Sad
Ol’ 55
Pretty Maids All in a Row
The Sad Cafe
I know I’m missing a couple songs that I really love, but I got the main ones. Hurts to have “Best of My Love” outside my top 10, but I guess I just like 10 Eagles songs a little more than it
Isn’t that pretty much every song they ever recorded ? Lol 😂 just kidding ya, I agree hard to just pick 10 out of a catalog with so many winners !
In no order:
Already Gone
Outlaw Man
Certain Kind of Fool
One of These Nights
Take It Easy
The Last Resort
Take the Devil
Doolin' Dalton/Desperado (reprise)
The Sad Café
Lyin' Eyes
Porkins respect for putting Doolin-Dalton/Desperado (Reprise)
I love your top 10. I can really get into this top 10. The long run is an excellent album. I played it to death when I was a teenager. I forgot how many great songs that album has on it. I'm going to get together my top five at least and put them here sometime today or tomorrow. Eagles are great melodic Harmony band with beautiful vocals. Joe Walsh and Don Felder I love them. I think the greatest guitar duo or maybe in the top five in the whole history of rock music.
On the border great song
My #1 - Hotel California #2 - Take It To The Limit and #3 - One Of These Nights. Cheers!
4. One of these Nights
5. Chug All Night
6. Outlaw Man
7. Disco Strangler
8. Out of Control - I would listen to this song before going out drinking in Juarez back in the mid 80's
9. On the Border
10. Witchy Woman
I find most of the Eagles discography to be quite underwhelming, for the most part, but the first six albums definitely have some standouts. Here’s my top 10:
1. Witchy Woman
2. Bitter Creek
3. Out Of Control
4. Take The Devil
5. Chug All Night
6. Hotel California (mainly for the closing guitar solos)
7. Good Day In Hell
8. Life In The Fast Lane
9. Doolin-Dalton
10. Love Will Keep Us Alive
