Nice work guys. Joe, I see we hit agreement with your top 2. For me with all the rankings and my own selections, they are viewed through the lens of what was I doing, where did this album sit in my world on release, rather than an objective analysis. As I move into the more recent years I imagine my perspective will be more objective. Love it all. Cheers
The Eagles main problem for me is that they have been played to death. Their good songs are really good. Don Henley is one of the best vocalists of his day. I actually like Henley's solo stuff pretty well, especially The End of the Innocence. Glenn Frey's solo stuff, on the other hand, I despise. Eagles are kind of an A.M. radio, bubble gum kind of vibe, but I don't hold them in the same disdain that I hold bands like Styx and REO Speedwagon. As usual, Jason goes out on a ledge in picking Hotel California as their second worst. While I wouldn't say that Hotel is classic by any means, it's a pretty decent album and it holds together better than most of their albums. Take It Easy was my first favorite song as a kid of five years old, and I still have a soft spot for it today.
DESPERADO remains one of my favourite albums of that era. It captured the heart and soul of the early American pioneers and spoke honestly about the people and their lives. I have not heard another album like it - it's honest, unpretentious and musically accurate. I would not be shocked if you told me they were actual songs written in the late 1800s.

The Long Run 7. Long Road Out of Eden The Eagles were hung up on perfection. With the kind of music they played, I found myself wishing that they would cut loose a little more. Felder's guitar playing really helped them. Lots of tasty solo's. The addition of Walsh gave them the joker they always needed. But, by then they only had one great album left in them. They were a 70's phenomenon, all the way. In order to really understand what they were about one has to understand the country-rock tree they were a part of. I do, I always knew why they were and are so popular. That said, there were records by similar artists that I liked more. Eagles were careful, critical, serious and sometimes calculatingly vapid. They never over-played. Dark, cynically playful. Henley had the great voice and excellent lyrical skills. Both he and Glenn Frey controlled the band's path. And yes, they had great vocal harmonies. Their image was to be cool by dressing casually and eschewing any kind of bawdy style. That way, they were the casual fans perfect image of themselves. They tapped into the times perfectly. Believe it or not, things have not changed all that much.
I agree that bands like the Flying Burrito Brothers, Poco, and Mason Proffit probably all did country rock better than The Eagles, but it's also easy to see why the Eagles' particular brand of it appealed to a wider audience.
Most definitely. Poco were too giddy and too 'aww-shucks!' Also too sweet. They could loosen up beautifully. They had Rusty Young. The Burrito's were psychedelic in the beginning. Too weird, and those suits ! Parsons was a self- destructive trainwreck waiting to happen. But when he left, they became yesterdays news. The Eagles learned a lot from all of the bands and carefully set about molding their own image and sound.

Interesting that On the Border gets a fair amount of love from a lot of Eagles fans. We pretty much all agreed it was the worst album of their classic period. - Joe
Very interesting video. I collected that nearly all of y’all just don’t like the Eagles style of country rock/soft rock. This is fine, as I know that the Eagles are somewhat controversial in the classic rock community. As a huge Gen Z fan of Eagles, I have heard plenty criticism when looking for others opinions. One that is quite common is the idea of perfectionism. The records are too polished and too clean. Other is the failure of Eagles to produce a convincing rock sound. The later is a huge point of disagreement for me and the simplest way to see this is in their live shows. Seattle 1976, Capital Centre 1977, and Houston 1977 really showcase that Eagles could indeed rock. The Eagles are my favorite band and On The Border is my favorite album, so my soul was just crushed when y’all put it so low. Of course, we all have our opinions and I enjoyed hearing some constructive criticism.
1 - One of These Nights 2 - The Long Run 3 - Desperado 4 - Hotel California 5 - On the Border 6 - Eagles 7 - Long Road Out of Eden I've been listening to the Eagles since the late 70s and have always liked them. All the albums are pretty close to each other in quality except the debut and then Long Road Out of Eden, which I couldn't even listen to in its entirety. Every album, except Eden, has a few songs that I love and a couple more that I really liked. Unfortunately, all of them also had at least a couple of songs that I really didn't like. Frey was my favorite Eagles singer and I actually liked most of the songs that were mentioned as being awful.
My worst-best the eagles albums of all time. 7. Long road out of eden 6. The eagles 5. The long run 4. One of these nights 3. Desperado 2. On the bordor 1. Hotel california
I have an Eagles problem and I think the best example I can give is the Hotel California album. After the amazing title track you get New Kid in Town, for me that kills the energy of the entire album. And I think many of their albums are like that except for maybe the Long Run but there you have some goofy songs too. I prefer Steely Dan, at least they are goofy all the time and they celebrate it.
I basically like about 20 songs by them lol mostly Henley songs Albums Rankled 7 On the Border boring 6 Desperado boring 5 One of these Nights Take it to the limit is great 4 Long road out of eden ( I love the title track ) 3 Eagles its solid kind of 2 Hotel California The Last Resort 1 Long run its the only solid record lol Eagles top 20 songs 1 Long Road out of Eden 2 Learn to be Still 3 The Last Resort 4 I Cant tell you why 5 Love will keep us alive 6 The Sad Cafe 7 Witchy Woman 8 Disco Strangler 9 Those Shoes 10 Take it to the limit 11 The Long Run 12 Get over it 13 Desperado 14 The Best of My Love 15 New Kid in Town 16 In the City 17 King of Hollywood 18 One of these Nights 19 Hotel California 20 Victim of Love
The Eagles; you had to be there..... if you were listening to the radio in the 70s, the Eagles were different than most bands around. The trouble might be that they were so successful and so many bands copied their formula, and their hits got played to death on the radio (yes, I was there and New Kid in Town dominated the charts in the summer of 76), that might be why people dislike them. I don’t love them but they’re decent. And I’m no superficial music fan as my fav bands are Zappa’s bands, Pere Ubu, Mission of Burma, experimental jazz, psychedelic and classic hard rock. The Eagles full albums are pretty good, that’s all. Btw, Ole 55 is a Tom Waits written song if I’m not mistaken

Kramzer:…I hate the F-ing Eagles, Man! 😅 I’m right there with you brother. Vaguely like 2 or 3 of their tunes, but absolutely loathe the rest of ‘em. Also agree with you that their solo stuff is generally much better, for some strange reason.
I'm very surprised at your low ranking of On the Border because I think it's their best album but it doesn't matter because Eagles are a vastly overrated band that treated some of their past members very harshly. I would appreciate it if you could do the albums ranking of my favourite band: Blue Oyster Cult but then again may be you don't rate them that highly?
I like B.O.C. but I’m not sure I’ve heard all of their albums. That doesn’t mean we won’t do them though. Our plan is to eventually cover every band ever. Haha. We’ll keep them in mind going forward.
@@TastesLikeMusic They only have 13 studio releases so it shouldn't take too long. You've haven't heard all their albums? You are missing out! No two albums are the same, very eclectic and far too clever for normal mortals. Thank you very much, it's always a pleasure to hear from you.
I am pretty squarely in the Kramzer camp regarding the Eagles and most of his criticisms ring true to me. In addition, I think you all tended to overlook one of the unifying aspect of the Eagles' oeuvre: they are exceptional sourpusses about most everything. Even worse, they have a quality of wanting to claim some sort of hard-earned authenticity about the perils of "life in the fast lane" and what they learned from their own excesses while dismissing others' engaged in the same things as fools and caricatures. There is persistent quality of prudish preachiness and distaste for their own scene that runs through all their work after the first two albums, i.e. their classic period. They seem to have less fun with each subsequent work. Why anyone finds over-polished moralizing attractive has always escaped me. Eagles - hard pass.

I agree with Jason. Hotel California is one of the most overrated albums ever! The best Eagles songs are great, but the bulk of every album is painfully mediocre.
@p b By your logic, Justin Bieber has sold an estimated 150 million records, JIMI HENDRIX sold over 24 million albums. So Justin Bieber is better than Jimi Hendrix
@@Tom-bs3zh lol you don't often hear Justin Bieber and Jimi Hendrix mentioned in the same breath, but yet almost everyone who talks about Poco will at some point mention The Eagles , The reason one succeeded and the other didn't can be summed up perfectly by the two words on one of Glenn Frey's old t-shirts . SONG POWER
Hate, hate, hate the Eagles ! (But my deepest, darkest secret is that I do like Victim of Love, and also In the City, though that's Joe Walsh all the way ) 🤠
Any album without Timothy B. Schmidt not on the bass, will be crap. The song "Take it easy" is a classic Eagles song. If you don't like that song, skip the band you're not a Eagles fan. Witchy Woman was a big hit back then. Radio played many of their songs to death. Henley is the best singer, although Schmidt can sing lead very well, but doesn't do it but a few songs.
You did not mention that after the first four albums, they released "Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975)". This contained all their radio hits. It is one of the best selling albums in history. Also, "Hell Freezes Over", was half live, half studio. It contained four new studio songs. Hard to rate four songs.
Glenn Frey's last name is pronounced "Fry" not "Fray". Hearing it otherwise hurts my ears. I am totally in agreement with the worst album of theirs, Long Road Out of Eden. Way overproduced and bland and Joe Walsh's guitar is so absent on it. Felder being ousted took so much away from the music. My fave album of theirs is On the Border. So much variety on it and was a precursor for things to come. A close second for me is One of These Nights. Great title cut and the only one of theirs that has all 5 sing a lead vocal. Hotel California for how great it may be has way too much Henley on it. This and the follow up, The Long Run was the Henley show.
Tbe first 3 albums are very good after that a few good tracks but rather weak albums Favourite track outlaw man and James Dean very similar to the Doobie brothers how about a review guys Long Road out of Eden is dreadful i also agree with Jason Hotel california is not that good Lastly some band requests Styx James gang nazareth iggy pop generation X all about eve Jethro tull family fanny the sweet and tangerine dream Duran Duran
@@TastesLikeMusic Fair enough. I missed that connection. I'm a native of Kansas with close friends who grew up in Coffeyville. That town's only claim to fame is the Dalton raid in 1892 and that connection always drew me to the Desperado album. The story of the Dalton raid is worth checking out on Wikipedia for a quick 5 minute read that tells you a bit of the story behind Doolin-Dalton.
To quote The Dude in the Big Lebowski- " oh man I hate the fuckin' Eagles" ! You guys are making me proud of you on this one. Henley is the most boring drummer in RnR history, just annoyingly preachy in his lyrics which only got worse and worse solo. I love Joe Walsh and that is mach 2 of the band but I love him despite being in the Eagles! I also liked Bernie Leadon's guitar playing on their first country rock beginning.Felder was a very good technical guitar player but kind of generic. Randy Meisner was the preferrable of the two bassists but they are both ok , prefer Meisners voice.Keep it up guys..!
Seems like a great guy, big personality, could play the guitar for sure. But .... for me kind of like, so what? Kind of wish Leadon would have hung in there a little longer. My wife dumped stuff on my head and I told her don't quit - we can still hit the biggest of the big time. It worked out.
Laughed hard. We've got one guy who I think is struggling with the pronounciation of some of the band member names. Another guy who just isn't fxcking buying any of it. Too funny. I appreciated the comment that the harder they tried to be an arena rock the more annoying they got. That goes contrary to the narrative Frey and Henley tried to spin. Is Walsh the most overrated rock star of all time? Maybe. As Bernie Leadon might point out, why is the original Greatest Hits album up there with Thriller as the biggest seller of all time? But then I forgot about those ponderings because I became so annoyed that someone else thought "New Kid In Town" was the worst track on HC. Why do watch this stuff? How did this happen??
Ok, when ya gonna cover Jackson Browne? Seems an oversight. Much more longevity than the Eagles, and much more respect from artists and critics compared to the Eagles…
Surprised you even made this video considering how none of you seem to like them, or at worst, like some of their most popular songs. My list would be: 7. Eden 6. Desperado 5. Eagles 4. Long Run 3. Nights 2. Border 1. Hotel
Kramzer the kontrarian - if it's popular -"I can't like it". Trying too hard to be a critic's version of Lou Reed or someone. Try some nitrous oxide, dude.
I dig the Eagles. My mom had all of their records (them and Dire Straits! I don't remember any other bands that she had all the albums for... oh wait Simon & Garfunkle), and I grew up with their California rock harmony vibes. THAT SAID, I re-listened to all of their albums when Glen Frey died, had a great time listening to them... but agree with Jason that Hotel California was the worst of the "classic era". Don't like that album, boring boring boring and the hits are the most overplayed. Also, digressing from the lists here, I found On the Border one of my faves and also like all those rockers that y'all don't (James Dean, Heartache Tonight etc).
Have to agree with other posters, this is a very overrated band. If you read felders book, you'll like them even less, including the ceaselessly whiny felder.
They also have no good albums . Some great songs , but there are some truly boring ballads that bare close resemblance to one another , such as Peaceful Easy Feeling , and Lying Eyes . Which are pleasant enough , but lack feeling. Everyone tends to overlook how conceited , and macho BS , the bragging about what a stud Glenn Frey's love letter to himself disguised as carefree lyrics the song Take It Easy was . 7 women left heartbroken , and another slowing down her truck to stare at him . Even Motley Crue couldn't have come up with lyrics containing a more sexist macho self indulgent song
Once you placed Hotel California 2nd from the bottom I stopped watching. And to trash Long Road Out Of Eden as if there's zero good songs on it is ridiculous. Maybe you should stick to critiquing bands you know or like. This was a total disaster....
Totally appreciate when you guys say you’ll never listen to an album again….you do a nice job of telling us why which I appreciate.

I've been listening to the Eagles since the late 70s and have always liked them.
I am grateful for The Eagles - they are the reason for one of the best lines in 'The Big Lebowsky'.
Don't really need their music.
My worst-best the eagles albums of all time.

Hotel California last are you kidding me
I have an Eagles problem and I think the best example I can give is the Hotel California album. After the amazing title track you get New Kid in Town, for me that kills the energy of the entire album. And I think many of their albums are like that except for maybe the Long Run but there you have some goofy songs too. I prefer Steely Dan, at least they are goofy all the time and they celebrate it.
Disagree
Have to agree about the over-processed harmonies on Long Road Out of Eden. They don’t really work like on previous albums.
I basically like about 20 songs by them lol mostly Henley songs

Yes it is. It’s a great song, but I do prefer the Eagles version by a lot. - Joe
Desperado by Linda Ronstadt is FANTASTIC!

You guys should be in a band together. I'd deffers be a groupie.Yaaaaaaaay.
Kramzer:…I hate the F-ing Eagles, Man! 😅 I’m right there with you brother. Vaguely like 2 or 3 of their tunes, but absolutely loathe the rest of ‘em. Also agree with you that their solo stuff is generally much better, for some strange reason.
Long Run is my personal favorite, though each album has gems. Least favorite is On the Border
On the Border is my #1 as well
I am pretty squarely in the Kramzer camp regarding the Eagles and most of his criticisms ring true to me.
A brilliant critique. "Over-polished moralizing." Bingo!
My top 3

I think Desperado are by far their best, not a weak moment. The worst, The long run
I agree with Jason. Hotel California is one of the most overrated albums ever! The best Eagles songs are great, but the bulk of every album is painfully mediocre.
nah, that honor goes to Pet Sounds.. (plz don't ban me, guys)
Nice Duran Duran t-shirt. They're better than anything The Eagles has ever done.
Overall I think the Richie Furay Poco albums beat anything the Eagles ever did.
That must be why no one bought them
@p b By your logic, Justin Bieber has sold an estimated 150 million records, JIMI HENDRIX sold over 24 million albums.
SONG POWER
I have to agree with Joe on this one
Do Rush albums. They have plenty of em with a LOT of diversity.
We already did!
Is Joe wearing a Duran Duran shirt??????? Omg please do them soon
Tequila Sunrise is my Favorite!
We never rank live albums, EPs, or compilations.
Do you guys rate French ticklers?
Lol ‘If Kramzer upset you you can unlike the video’... 😄
The Eagles don’t do a thing for me, so I’m not upset, hehe..
Tbe first 3 albums are very good after that a few good tracks but rather weak albums
Favourite track outlaw man and James Dean very similar to the Doobie brothers how about a review guys
Long Road out of Eden is dreadful i also agree with Jason Hotel california is not that good
Lastly some band requests
Styx James gang nazareth iggy pop generation X all about eve Jethro tull family fanny the sweet and tangerine dream Duran Duran
Not a bad one
Why was Jason referring to Desperado and Tequila Sunrise while critiquing On the Border?
Because it's relevant to why the band took a more commercial rock approach on On the Border.
I love how Kram ended every review with…still a hard pass on this. Ha not just a pass but a HARD pass. Too funny
Last resort is their best song by far
SHOCKED to see Desperado at number one. While it’s a good album, it doesn’t come close to Hotel or One of these Nights to me.
Now rank and review The James Gang/Joe Walsh records
We'll see...we already have the next month or so planned out, but eventually we'll get to all of it.
I will say that, Joe Walsh should have never joined the band: because his songs just sound like Joe Walsh solo songs and not Eagles songs?
Seems like a great guy, big personality, could play the guitar for sure. But .... for me kind of like, so what? Kind of wish Leadon would have hung in there a little longer. My wife dumped stuff on my head and I told her don't quit - we can still hit the biggest of the big time. It worked out.
Am i the only one who noticed you didn’t rate any album on the video with stars? Did you guys just forgot?
We didn’t do star rankings back in those days. - Joe
@@TastesLikeMusic makes sense. Thanks for replying, i really enjoy your work guys, keep it up!
All there albums from the first to the Long Run are GREAT after that, not so much!
17:06 Bernie Leadon. Think Led Zeppelin. Bernie Leddon. Desperado... Oh yes. On the Border.. Oh no.
the eagles will always be and always were one band that I dont give a toss about... sorry
I like the Eagles but I don’t care about the Eagles. - Joe
You guys are being too hard on Long Road Out of Eden. It should have been cut in half but there are definitely some good songs on it.
It’s not good. - Joe
Like most bands from that era, the earlier in the 70's the better. Therefore i would go chronological from best to worst. Not a band I like though.
Ok, when ya gonna cover Jackson Browne? Seems an oversight. Much more longevity than the Eagles, and much more respect from artists and critics compared to the Eagles…
Surprised you even made this video considering how none of you seem to like them, or at worst, like some of their most popular songs.
My list would be:
7. Eden
6. Desperado
5. Eagles
4. Long Run
3. Nights
2. Border
1. Hotel
We’ll talk about anyone on this channel, whether we like em or not. I like the Eagles a fair amount, but their discography is far from perfect. -Jason
@@TastesLikeMusic I agree, as someone else said, their singles are much better than their albums as a whole.
Albums are uneven but I quite like Desperado, One of These Nights and Hotel California. - Joe

Jackson Browne list? 😙
Sorry I lasted watching this for 9 minutes and couldn't take any more ......if you don't like hotel California then I give

Uhm some of us do. - Joe
@@TastesLikeMusic you are forgiven 😁
Kramz is right eagle are crap
Have to agree with other posters, this is a very overrated band. If you read felders book, you'll like them even less, including the ceaselessly whiny felder.
Utter travesty. 😁
They have no bad albums
Not True. Long Road Out Of Eden is bad. Very, very bad. The other 6 are all good to great, depending on your taste.
Once you placed Hotel California 2nd from the bottom I stopped watching. And to trash Long Road Out Of Eden as if there's zero good songs on it is ridiculous. Maybe you should stick to critiquing bands you know or like. This was a total disaster....
You’re too close to the Eagles. - Joe
Hotel California was a poor record. I utterly don’t understand on how this is considered a great record.
“I like Metallica more than the Eagles….” 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
