Gotta love how we have one sinnoh remake thats fragile and easily broken and another thats basically stainless steel. You can bend it a little. But breaking it is pretty hard
The only glitch I've done in Arceus was disabling Pokemon spawns when I died as a distortion was ending. Probably nothing would come of it, but it was interesting.
And the one that takes place far in the past is the solid one. Kind of an ironic twist on the old saying 'they don't make them like they used to', when the newer thing depicting an older time is better made than the older thing depicting a newer time.
I understand what you meant but to clarify not having glitches to skip a section doesn't necessarily mean "well programmed".. it just means that the game's progression system is not ideal for speedrunning..
@@vyor8837 Any game is guaranteed to have glitches. It's inevitable, but the thing is that there was clearly extensive glitch testing and debugging before releasing the game. This is in stark contrast to BDSP, where the seem to have skipped that phase. The few glitches that do happen all have extremely specific conditions, and both the glitches Abyssoft demonstrates happen when falling, so that must have been an oversight in the glitch testing. But Daruwuin is right, the presence/lack of glitches isn't the sole indicator of a game being "well programmed"
Being airtight against sequence breaks isn't necessarily good programming, since it means a higher potential for casual players to softlock the game. Many sequence breaks are the result of foresight into preventing softlocks and crashes, not a result of sloppiness.
This brings up an interesting question as someone on the outside: Does the speedrunning community PREFER glitchy games? Is it disappointing to find a game that resists breaking? Or is there like, a seperation in the community between people that like ultra broken any% glitch runs and those who prefer speed running more or less as it was intended to be played?
Here's the speed lawyer answer; it depends. Take a game like SM64, 70 star and 120 star have minimal uses of glitches, but 0 star and 16 star make use of heavy sequence breaks to make them possible. Both are fun to watch but for different reasons. I think when a game gets to a point that you're not using mechanics in the game to break it, things start to get a little "what is going on here" from a viewer perspective. Don't get me wrong, I love things like Paper Mario x Ocarina of Time credits warp, and Hot Plate Glitch, but I think those are largely one and done sort of things because they are so unique, it requires a lot of explanation for an someone unfamiliar with what's happening to understand the how and why (which is why I make the videos!), but something like SM64 120 star you can just start watching and know immediately what's happening. Side note, RPG's are notoriously long and grindy to run, so skips that cut out sections of the game are often received with open arms by community members and viewers.
There is a separation yes! It's the reason why there are multiple categories in a game. Most of the time it comes down to personal preference. It's all about fun in the end, that's why some games like super Mario sunshine and Deadspace 2 Allow their runners to actually use hacks for their runs! This is so they can skip the dreadful long unskippable intro cutscene so they can actually play their game. There are people that prefer breaking their games as much as possible and there are that stay as close to a pure, non-glitched run as they can. The most important is that they want to enjoy and have fun playing their game. Personally I'm all about "Oh wow that looked really cool" speedruns no matter what the game is.
I'd also like to add ontop of whats already been said. Sometimes if a game ends up getting TOO broken TOO fast, like Halo Infinite as a prime recent example, it can lower times too fast and kill enthusiasm to run the whole category. So yeah its a bit of both, an ideal any% run would be rich in both technical execution of legitimate game functions and glitch abuse
The community is full of people who like to speed run with and without glitches, but by far doing it with glitches is the most popular choice because it's more interesting to watch and perform
This happened to me with Zorua almost every single outbreak. It took me SO MANY outbreaks to find a shiny and it would happen almost every single time where at least one of them would spawn inside a rock. It could not get out and I could not lure it out or throw a ball at it. Imagine your shiny spawning in there...
I had a Graveler spawn underneath Dialga statue's legs at Mt. Coronet ruins and it was the funniest shit ever because it was stuck rolling there. Managed to surprise hit me with rock slide in the aggro but it really couldn't do much else
Sounds like they did a good job, aside from the fact I'm softlocked because I flew down and fought Cresselia without knowing I was supposed to trigger a cutscene first.
@@justarandomdood Thanks for trying to help, but I already saw this elsewhere. I tried it, but my game had already autosaved after I caught the moon turkey.
I've had two glitches: I accidentally caught Uxie twice which prevented me from catching Azelf (patched) and I couldn't catch Cherrim if it transformed (patched)

true, they really need to add a skip feature if they're gonna make long tutorials with a lot of cut-scenes, the tutorial kills replay value, I was trying to do a ultra moon nuzlocke a while ago and gave up after 2 tries cause the stupid tutorial is so long
My favorite glitch is bear hover. There are invisible walls you can collide with in area where guards block you from entering. If you run into them with deer boi and jump and immediately switch to bear, bear will hover
scares me to hear that skipping cutscenes can softlock you, because i walked past a cutscene in the ancient quarry in coronet highlands by running and jumping into a wall with wyrdeer and walking right past it. i was thinking about just continuing but wanted to see if there was even a cutscene there, so i walked back and triggered it
Game Freak is surprisingly good at making game that are hard to find glitches especially for speed running (BDSP was not make by Game Freak). The last main series Pokémon game made by Game Freak that had glitches that speed runner abused was Pokémon Platinum which was released in 2008. For all the complaints they get there are still one of the best at avoiding sequence breaking.
The sad thing is GF put strong obstacles for speed running but don't really make the game flawless in that same pursuit. Like look at why Lillie is in nearly every map in Sun and moon. And as mentioned in the video, sometimes exploits just don't save you time. Breaking a game is one thing, breaking a game in a way that makes you complete it/objectives faster is another. This time though, I think they put a lot of their best into this game. I found leveling up star ranks easy but it's still gonna be a grind for speed runners. I hope they do find something, like the insane WW invisible wall break or item storage affected by the weirdest things. If you can item storage to work, it's theoretically possible to skip Cogita stuff to make the red chain and origin ball.
@@RWAsur yeah, I would love it see this game be absolutely destroyed by the community; I believe it gives the game longevity in the speed running scene.
I'm sure they do an absolutely immense amount of QA work. Gen 1 Pokemon and BDSP show exactly what happens in a game with so many complex interactions if you don't.
I'm not sure if the glitches were used for speedrunning but in sword and shield there are some weird glitches of which a ton break things such as softlocking the player, duplicating pokemon, or straight up enabling out of bound access which allows to fly around on your bike..It's weird. Though most of the bugs effect competitive play or just the standard gameplay.
@@testerwulf3357 oh yeah I forgot about those lmao... yeah Gamefreak haven't actually put out a bug-free Pokemon game to my knowledge, but the degree of the bugs have definitely diminished over time
I was wondering why there wasn't much news about Pokemon: Legends Arceus! Makes sense now! I enjoyed this long form explanation & analysis! Looking forward to more like it from you! Thanks for uploading!
If I’m not mistaken, even if you get an early level 5, you need to beat electrode to unlock Icelands, which holds braviary. Even if there is a skip to temple early, I don’t think you can skip to final battle main game since the the red chain is needed. And I think it’s a cutscene to palkia or dialga catch. But I could be mistaken. Anyways I wonder if gathering the 18 plates will become a category. Which is all post game minus arceus. Feel like that could be an interesting run
I can attest to this. I got to 5 star before going after Klevor, and you don't even get Wyrdeer until after some or all of Klevor's missions are complete.
@@kevinchapman9285 You get access to Wyrdeer after beating Lian (specifically, right after your following return to Jubilife - Mai will be at the gate and ask you to come to the Heights Camp with her, where you'll unlock Wyrdeer.

Giratina is the actual climax to the story, even if they do play the credits earlier on, so I'm sure that category will be a thing eventually. It would be a pretty long run though...
@@calebjmendoza6079 The point he's making is that PLA is a recent release and SwSh has been around for years. Obviously attempts at breaking PLA are going to take a bit, while SwSh has had plenty of time for Speedrunners to break it. We just need more time to find glitches and exploits
On my first playthrough I found a way to clip into the snowpoint temple but couldn't actually enter the temple itself (have a vid on my channel about it). This vid explained why that was the case so thanks.

I really like watching the speedrunner actually play through the game rather than diving through the floor and into the next zone or whatever, so I don't mind this.
@@avatarmew There's a nice middle ground When things are broken but you aren't literally phasing through reality and skipping 50% You don't have to be a PL:A And you don't have to be Sonic boom either You can be something like a Mario 1 Yeah you're going through walls and double jumping But most mechanics are intact I have the feeling that's what this lad is asking for
Us, on GDQ: "lmao who coded this, it's broken as hell the way we can open it up, they should QA better" Devs: "okay we'll double and triple check these things next time so sequence breaks are far less likely" Us: "not like that"
This is exactly like the game I speedrun, Fossil Fighters: Champions. So many cutscene triggers can be skipped over, but the next part to progress the story is unable to activate unless you've gone through that cutscene. It's so annoying, given it's now a 2.5 hour RNG-fest of mashing through dialogue and moving around as best you can. Though I have to say, it doesn't appear to be *as* long as Arceus.
Knowing speedrunning it’s gonna be something dumb like, “the final battle area is accidentally loaded when doing the balloon popping mini game. It turns out the balloon popping mini game takes place in a parallel instance of the world.” I don’t know. Is there even a balloon popping game in that zone? If there isn’t then it was definitely removed because of this…
That speedrun stray sounds very much like Skyward Sword Any%, where you do activate the minigame of battling successive Imprisoned to get to a state where you are at the end of the game. Were you thinking of that?
@@trent800 That's just it though. The coronet highlands is the only area where the local Ride Pokemon provides extra mobility, but there is no balloon course to teach you to use it. The suggestion is that there USED TO BE a balloon course in the area, but it was removed from the game PRIOR TO RELEASE for one reason or another.
The minigame takes place in the same “world” I know this because my first random full odds shiny of the game was a paras that spawned during the minigame, and when I went back to get it after the time ran out it was still there
I’ve heard with how Arceus uses story flags, a few people have soft locked themselves post game by catching Cresselia by catching her before someone tells you to and then you can’t proceed after.
Oh I actually did that, it's pretty easy to get unstuck from it, you just talk to the guy again and then enter the arena when you're clearly flagged to do it. The animation plays but there's no Pokemon, and then it's like "you caught Cresselia! :D" and the quest ends, no problem.
The speed glitch can be done with the ride pokemon too. I did it on accident at one point but I'm not sure exactly what caused it. I got on and back off again and it went back to normal walk speed. By the way you explained the one here it seems fall damage may have been involved with it but I wasn't paying attention to the cause, I just got weirded out that I was running fast and my character wasn't turning at normal speed when I looked left or right. It seemed to match the speed of the Wyrdeer turn.
@@MindshiftProd True, however ILCA isn’t a full game dev team, they’re a support dev team and the first game (that I can find) that they, themselves made was Pokémon Home.
It's funny. This game is visibly jankier and you're more likely to see glitchy behaviour, but chose a core progression structure that is very break resistant. BDSP looks extremely solid on the surface but you can break it open easily. They're inverses of each other.
That's because gamefreak couldn't recycle their nearly 30 year old garbage coding techniques on this game. They actually had to do everything from scratch.
@@DisplayThisOkay Also maaayybe because BDSP wasn't actually made by gamefreak? Funny how most forget that! It was made by people who weren't that experienced in game making so it ended up a mess..They really should of gotten more capable people to make it.
Its a lot like this in sly 2 and sly 3 speedrunning. Tons of poweful advanced movement techniques and glitches have been developed yet the majority of the games remain unbroken and lack major sequence breaks due to a heavy reliance on 'chain triggers' where new sequences aren't active until you have flags from the previous triggers.
That was neat, I feel good to have discovered some of the few glitches there are by myself. Though, taking damage while falling isn't exactly hard. You can use skill somewhat to get further ahead than you should, but not by much...
I remember everyone thinking Pokémon Legends: Arceus was going to be broken and soulless to play and yet this is probably the only Pokémon game ever since the switch to 3D to be super enjoyable :D
In other words, this is what happens when Devs actually program progression correctly. It's amazing how developers doing their job right is the exception and not the rule these days.
Yeah, Breath of the Wild is my favorite game because all of the big glitches were left alone, I was extremely upset to find that BDSP weren’t the same and that I couldn’t speedrun them
Yeh... Cause progression is all that matters in the end... Its not the fact you just skipped a cutscene or got out of bounds, or caught twice a supposed to be unique Pokemon in the world and that caused you to be softlocked from the rest of the game.
I know it’s probably unintentional and the sentence was about the story sequence stability, but I love the irony of Abyss saying “a game so expertly crafted its unbreakable” while on screen there are very obvious glitches going on
Don't forget Werster too. He needs to get the world record at once so that he can continue to say, or at least have on his resume, that he's held the world record in every Pokemon game at one point.
Only glitch I've done is approaching an npc too fast and clipping through them for a while, the other is crashing the game by fighting a Psyduck for no reason.
I had a shiny pop up once and my game crashed when it made the sparkles. I was like. I guess it’s too powerful. I did catch it after reloading but it was funny.

I find it hilarious the Legends: Arceus is this robust. You can say a lot about the game and its underwhelming graphics at times (Remoraid in the water...), but it's a solid game. Both in terms of mechanics and code. And I love that.
Did you watch the same video I did? There's nothing robust about the game.. simply fast travelling can get you out of the map. All they did was force things to be done in a certain order
With out of bounds being found this quickly i dont think you can call the code solid lol. It has linearly sequenced event flags which take like minutes to implement in a linear progression game.
@@Lilybun As a game dev, I honestly can't believe that linear flags are so effective at deterring speedrunners, and I'm even more suprised why this kind of flag system isn't in every game. It does take a ginormogantuan amount of switch statements, but at the end of the day, it's too damn bulletproof.
@@MDLuffy1234YT probably because most games arent as linear as pokemon and arent produced the same way. Also why would you use a gargantuan list of if statements when you can simply iterate a single value or if you want a more robust system you can set and check for flags with a bit mask (or use an array if bits are confusing)? Big list of if statements is how you get yandere dev code ;P
No gyms, no battle tower, no multiplayer, no end game activities. It is very interesting how you kids think graphics it is the only thing that drives the backlash to this. The battle system seems like an step somewhere not necessarily forward alone, like a diagonal progress, cause the battle system needed more complexity not a full action rpg take. I would argue that they needed to copy Monster Hunter Stories than Grandia and even then Grandia do have RTA structure. Also the only way this is showing "unbreakable" structure is cause its damn structure is a long repetitive mapped texture with nothing else in it than the pseudo puzzles and the NPCs.
Only major glitch I’ve found in my 54 hours of playtime is a permanent Pokémon soft lock, if you hit a poke ball in a certain way the Pokémon will be trapped and you won’t be able to rescue it no matter what you do. (Not even fast traveling fixes it you have to fully leave the area).
Game: is easy to sequence break Community: "this game is horrible its so broken" Game: is impossible to sequence break Community: "why don't they let us break the game?"
Social media rewards engagement, the more you engage the more of that content it feeds you. As thus why Twitter is the hate machine it is, and why the downvote system was added to teach the algo what you actually want to see.
A game is only horrible or broken if it does not gracefully recover from a sequence break. On the one hand, I would argue that this game, while it does not fail due to a sequence break, technically does not recover from them, either.
I actually like that Arceus is hard to break. The glitchless run has a lot of agency to it with how you complete research tasks and I think optimizing the route will be a task hopefully as difficult as finding a skip
Honestly, optimization for glitchless runs is many many many times harder than finding glitches. With the nature of pokemon especially, in which nothing is meant to be guaranteed, this may actually push a good chunk of speedrunning away. Even "glitchless" speedruns use exploits for the most part. Such as Dark Souls and door animation skipping via reloading.
When it comes to glitches for single-player games my opinion on whether they should be kept runs on a few variables. Does it make the game unplayable? Yes: Remove it. No: Do casual players commonly experience it on accident and does it hurt their enjoyment? Yes: Do Speedrunners use it in their runs? Yes: Make it harder to encounter. No: Remove it. No: Do Speedrunners use it in their runs? Yes: It stays. No: I don't care at this point.
What's funny is some games, a glitch will come out and be presumably useless but then someone else finds a separate glitch that coupled with a previously "useless" one makes it useful and thus, worth doing
Most pokemon games don't have sequence breaks, in fact they have been well designed since Gen 3. Its just that BDSP is a very special case, as broken as Gen 1 perhaps because it was ILCA's first game?
@@UltraAryan10 they haven’t been well designed since gen 3 because dp have the same glitches as the remakes and xy had that glitch where you could not play the game if you saved near a taxi
Its not THAT well designed. Multiple glitchs are being found, some even softlock you from progressing. Just cause the game forces you to complete story beats in order to progresss doesnt mean its well designed at all.
I remember the first thing i wanted to do was do the first skip mentioned and doing it for 30 minutes only to realize that in the end, i cant do anything after the skip
I respect speedrunners for their grinding to break video games but i also like times like this when there is no exploits and you legit just have to be faster even if its hours and involves rng. Good on you gamefreak for making a solid game lol.
I like how the reason the tutorial skip doesnt work boils down to 'The game makes sense'. Its described here as "The game expects you you to have completed earlier objectives before you can do later ones." So this is a game that understands the linear nature of time.
Unless something really game-breaking will happen, I don't see how you can break this game. Their solution is extremely simple (could even call it unintentional), yet equally effective.
I love this. Honestly, if this is the case, this will most likely be entitled as one of the longest speedrunning games in history along with other previous games that do the same thing to prevent super speedruns. I'm just happy because out of all games, it's Pokemon. A game which most people would think is the easiest type of game to break.
So it uses the Xenoblade style of story progression. In that game too, each quest marker being completed sets a flag for the next, so it's pretty much impossible to skip anything. Cool video!
Ive done one glitch so far. I had thrown Typhlosion at a tree, then spun around and attacked an attacking monster. The battle started and Typhlosion was stuck in his blue ball return sparkle state and was unusable in battle or the field. I didn't get him back until I triggered a loading sequence the entire time he was just stuck in his blue return sparkle effect next to the tree hed knocked berries down from.
If you can't sequence break, what about glitches or exploits that speed up the research process? Is there a way to, say, duplicate a catch to have it count twice or to force an outbreak of a particular Pokemon? For as much as we dunk on GameFreak for the tree in SwSh, or the collisionless tree in B2/W2, or the tree you can use to break out of bounds with in BDSP (Just saying these 3 makes me realize GameFreak has a problem with trees), but we can't really say that about PLA. PLA has it's fair share of glitches, but at least the game seems built well enough that such glitches won't mess something up.
Well, that's one of the things he proposed that they might try to go for if it's genuinely impossible to sequence break at all, in which case it's a whole other can of worms as that would probably take a new branch of research into what can and can't be broken in that system

Also the fact that this game was somehow made so well that it's avoiding serious speedrunning glitches and all you get is an out of bounds that resets you in the map, and a fast run glitch that becomes irrelevant after an early unlock, is just beautiful.
I found a weird glitch that I don’t think would help the speed runners but is cool, when you trade Pokémon, for whatever reason it thinks you caught the Pokémon. So basically if I traded a spiritomb to my friend so he can get it in his Pokédex and gave it back to me it believes I caught the spiritomb again, basically adding a free catch to my research task
A game working as intended? Great! Side Note: “Grinding” star levels was never much of an issue for me whilst playing normally. Just kinda happened naturally.
Yes but speedrunners are not casually going at a.. casual pace.. they are trying to go fast so aren't naturally catching lots of mons and getting back strikes and stuff since those take time they want to shave off
Something people don't give gamefreak enough credit for is the lack of glitches. Like this game was REALLY well made and has so many checks and is really well put together, which sucks for speedruns though. Although I do think this game could be another dk64 situation where crazy skips are found to skip all the different things
Don't get me wrong I do love Legends Arceus and it is a well done for blocking skipping though when it comes to normal glitches that happen during normal gameplay it's a drop for me. Let's go Pikachu and Eevee was very solid and the worst during normal gameplay was slow down due to too much Pokemon on screen. Didn't notice any glitches during normal gameplay. I don't count BD and SP because they're not Gamefreak made games. They're Ilca games and obviously Ilca has alot of learning to do. However due to how high quality glitch wise Let's go Pikachu and eevee were during normal gameplay makes it hard to give credit to Legends arceus considering the glitches in that area I have seen have been annoying and make the game feel like they haven't been checked enough. They've fixed a few but it's annoying since I've had a few activate without me even hunting for them. Cherrim before the update had a glitch that made it impossible to catch when it changed forms. Fixed now but shouldn't have been an issue in the first place. Other things I've seen is an Aipom inside a tree, Pokemon running inside of objects that they shouldn't be able to go in and Pokemon literally levitating up a tree before disappearing............... That's not including trying to keep in mind the Cresselia soft lock glitch since so many ran into that. Also I have seen videos where geometry has broken and expanded through certain conditions and people fighting Pokemon inside cliffs. None of these improve speed running. However they effect gameplay. So I can't credit them for lack of glitches because there's quite a number. They're just not beneficial to the player. That said I want the Pokemon spawning inside trees and objects fixed. I had never seen this in a Pokemon game without even trying until now. That said I can give them credit for the open areas being so big, the exploring to find Pokemon and the unique mechanics on catching Pokemon. Just trying something different which is great. It's fun and I want to see them do more but I would like to see the quality to just improve a little with less glitches during normal gameplay.
I’ve never been a particularly big fan of speedruns that break the game wide open, so it’s refreshing to see a game that’s relatively glitch free for more than a couple of weeks
Well, I'd hardly call Pokemon Legends Arceus glitch free. As you saw in the video, it showcased some pretty major ones that can be done easily. The game does have a strict progression system though so sequence breaking the game has proven to be futile. However just like the video said, never say never. Even the most solid games can be broken.
This world is rapidly passing away and I hope that you repent and take time to change before all out disaster occurs! Belief in messiah alone is not enough to grant you salvation - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36) if you believed in Messiah you would be following His commands as best as you could. If you are not a follower of Messiah I would highly recommend becoming one. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life - Revelation 3:20. Contemplate how the Roman Empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13 over the course of 1260+ years. Revelation 17 confirms that the beast is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years going back to Babylon and before, C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate once you start a relationship with God. Can't get a response from God? Fasting can help increase your perception and prayer can help initiate events. God will ignore you if your prayer does not align with His purpose (James 4:3) or if you are approaching Him when "unclean" (Isaiah 1:15, Isaiah 59:2, Micah 3:4). Stop eating food sacrificed to idols (McDonald's, Wendy's etc) stop glorifying yourself on social media or making other images of yourself (Second Commandment), stop gossiping about other people, stop watching obscene content etc. Have a blessed day!
Metroid fusion was also deemed almost unskipable for decades because of the flag system but due memory corruption speedruners were able to enable flags and reach the end of the game. In pokemon emerald with the pomeg berry glitch you can enable flags to activate special events so it is something pokemon games have also a history of it. Memory corruption tends to be found many years later due to the knowledge requied to make it work, but if everything else fails theres always it as some sort of final resort.
Alternative video title: "Why this game isn't broken... yet." Good to know Pokemon games are becoming less like a bowl of pasta and more like a well structured game. Now if we could only convince other Devs to put in Easter Eggs like rhe Konami Code or something. That'd be cool.
idk this game seems to be an exception (cough cough ham sandwich), but maybe you're right, and this is indicative of a change in gamefreak's ideology when it comes to making games. I personally hope it is.
I assume the only way to break this would be to somehow trick the game into thinking you've checked those flags, but given how few of these glitches are really exploitable that's gonna be hard
The only real glitches I know of in this game are just that sometimes Pokemon will be in a tree? It's usually Bidoof specifically. If you move the wrong way the Pokemon will suddenly just be on the tree. And sometimes Pokemon or even the player character will be what looks like a foot or two off the ground.
For people saying that Legends Arceus is way more polished than BDSP, I'm pretty sure that an event flag system is not at all difficult to do since it basically just boils down to "Did you trigger this flag? No? Then you can't trigger these other flags." It's still shockingly easy to clip out of bounds as you can see from the video and honestly, I wish it was broken as hell because then the speedruns wouldn't be ungodly tedious with how the game wants you to play.
@@justinclement7211 That depends on the game. Some glitch runs completely trivialize a game and are less interesting to watch than the glitchless run, but some games become way more entertaining when you use glitches.
Exactly. If BDSP had event flag checks spammed everywhere, that rolled you back if you weren't where you were supposed to be, would that make the game more "polished"? Although, the menu glitch in itself is pretty busted, as it doesn't exclusively sequence-break the game.
Of course it's very easy to make. The problem is it _wasn't made_ in the case of BDSP. And it's not the only game. Many developers don't make a proper event flag, which is why it's worth noting when a game doesn't have any sequence break. I mean, FNAF SB released almost at the exact same time as Legends, and its events sequence is entirely based off triggers physically present in the world, meaning you can launch any event in the game by just going where it's supposed to happen. So you can launch the final boss by just going where the fight happens. The out of bounds in Legends isn't """shockingly easy", it still requires a very specific input at a very specific time for it to happen. And even when it does happen, it doesn't have any serious consequences on the game as you can just get out of it. The Cresselia softlock is a much bigger issue, as you couldn't do anything about it except start a new game.
It's not a true open world game, it's on tracks...heavily, the illusion of an open world exists just cause the maps are huge and explorative, but it's not really, cause the map is in sections, it's not as big as it feels, but unlike a true open world game, you can't sequence break, and you can't skip things without it soft locking the game or crashing.
Gotta love how we have one sinnoh remake thats fragile and easily broken and another thats basically stainless steel. You can bend it a little. But breaking it is pretty hard

I mean... several glitches are talked about through this video. Hardly well programmed
@@Abyssoft Thanks for the detailed answer!

Game Freak is surprisingly good at making game that are hard to find glitches especially for speed running (BDSP was not make by Game Freak). The last main series Pokémon game made by Game Freak that had glitches that speed runner abused was Pokémon Platinum which was released in 2008.
The minigame takes place in the same “world”
I know this because my first random full odds shiny of the game was a paras that spawned during the minigame, and when I went back to get it after the time ran out it was still there
@@iantaakalla8180 I’ll be honest, I have no idea that’s a thing. Just that speedrunning has funny weirdness that follows some sort of logic.
@@FrenkTheJoy Yep. But that’s what it does now that they patched the game to fix this. It used to be you were just softlocked.
Thanks for the video! Playing it right now, and happy to hear how hard it is proving to be to break it!
Was here for the premiere but wanted to say sick vid once again
Fantastic video, was hoping too see some content like this for Arceus!
I think it's kind of insane to see the difference in quality between this game and BDSP
2 diff developers. They had another company develop it. They underperformed lol
The only glitch that has happened to me was getting two uxies and being locked out of Mespirt lol
Good thing they fixed that in the last update. Maybe Mesprit will be in their cave now for you?
I must say that I am both impressed at the game's resilience and disappointed that we don't have funny glitches.
That was neat, I feel good to have discovered some of the few glitches there are by myself. Though, taking damage while falling isn't exactly hard.
You can use skill somewhat to get further ahead than you should, but not by much...
A lot of games stayed unbroken for years or decades, until finally being smashed open.
This makes me happy.
The game is solid. Good programming. And while yes it has glitches so does every game.
I wish they would stop doing their job :(

BDSP was broken in a matter of hours, when they fixed the glitches it took less than a day to find another way to do it.

I wish there was a way to skip to Alabaster Icelands since it has good pokemon such as Hisuan Zoroark. Oh well, at least I can get Goomy early...
I think the title should be why can't speedrunners break pokemon legends arceus YET
its still early
Speedrunners: Come on, I don't wanna play the game normally !!!
They didn't sign up for this!
The first thought I had was, “oh poor shiny” if it’s a certain way the a shiny could be stuck.
Game: is easy to sequence break

Game: is impossible to sequence break
Community: "why don't they let us break the game?"
The people with negative thoughts are always the loudest lol I'm sure the Pokemon community as a whole doesn't care either way
Social media rewards engagement, the more you engage the more of that content it feeds you.
I think the problem with BDSP is that breaking it is WAY too easy for a normal player.
That vertical storage transition was very nice 👌
"BDSP is so broken lol"
Game Freak: I'm about to end the speedrunning community's entire career.
BDSP wasn't game freak
I mean, the game hasn't been out for that long. Some games take many years to break open, so it could happen eventually.
I can’t wait to see a Reverse BiTMagic equivalent on Legends: Arceus, as that is clearly what it will take to skip various sections of the game.

No: Do casual players commonly experience it on accident and does it hurt their enjoyment?
Yes: Do Speedrunners use it in their runs?

What's funny is some games, a glitch will come out and be presumably useless but then someone else finds a separate glitch that coupled with a previously "useless" one makes it useful and thus, worth doing
Game Freak's really come a long way since Red/Blue which were held up by paper-mache.
Legends Arceus is so well designed that speedrunning is basically impossible. DUDE. That’s a good sign for the future of the series honestly.

Just cause the game forces you to complete story beats in order to progresss doesnt mean its well designed at all.

I think this is much cooler than broken pearl/glitched diamond. An actual game that doesn't take like 15 minutes.
Very well done video. Solid work.
Loving this game. Theyll break it eventually
I was so expecting Take on Me to start playing in the background
I like how the reason the tutorial skip doesnt work boils down to 'The game makes sense'. Its described here as "The game expects you you to have completed earlier objectives before you can do later ones." So this is a game that understands the linear nature of time.
Alpharad found the vertical storage glitch on complete accident and fell through the world. Was funny.
Expertly programmed Pokémon game? Never heard of it
So it uses the Xenoblade style of story progression. In that game too, each quest marker being completed sets a flag for the next, so it's pretty much impossible to skip anything. Cool video!
A pokemon game that's not a pile of broken code? This can not be!

The game has only been out two weeks… a little premature to say the game can’t/won’t be broken any day
In 5 days from now: "How this new glitch 'Early Upper Step' breaks Legends of Arceus"
Yes and no people broke bdsp the day it was released. By one week in they could finish the game in fifteen minutes.
Bdsp has a pre-patch version that ias why it's easy to break.

2:28
Commander komado: who the heck is this random person that just casually walked into our base of operation
"The game remains relatively unbroken"
moonwalking flash on screen: am I a joke to you?
Also the fact that this game was somehow made so well that it's avoiding serious speedrunning glitches and all you get is an out of bounds that resets you in the map, and a fast run glitch that becomes irrelevant after an early unlock, is just beautiful.
let's not forget all of the other ones caused by accident that's not helpful for either the casuals or speedrunners
Yes but speedrunners are not casually going at a.. casual pace.. they are trying to go fast so aren't naturally catching lots of mons and getting back strikes and stuff since those take time they want to shave off
@@BaconNuke obviously.
Just saying that the game’s design when not speed running is really tight and there isn’t many issues.
Something people don't give gamefreak enough credit for is the lack of glitches. Like this game was REALLY well made and has so many checks and is really well put together, which sucks for speedruns though. Although I do think this game could be another dk64 situation where crazy skips are found to skip all the different things
How far they've come considering how fucking broken the original red and green were I mean it was a miracle they even worked at all
Don't get me wrong I do love Legends Arceus and it is a well done for blocking skipping though when it comes to normal glitches that happen during normal gameplay it's a drop for me.
0:40 yes Omega evolution totally not a origin form
The harder a game is to break the more broken it inevitably becomes
Not really.
Just look to Skyward Sword runs over the years for evidence of this.
Sticker Star isn’t that broken, but that’s because no one wants to run it.
Shadows of Almia is more played, but it too is not as broken.

Good. Shout out to game of the year for not being broken 👍🏼 hope it stays that way. Best game I’ve played in years maybe since botw
Memory corruption tends to be found many years later due to the knowledge requied to make it work, but if everything else fails theres always it as some sort of final resort.

idk this game seems to be an exception (cough cough ham sandwich), but maybe you're right, and this is indicative of a change in gamefreak's ideology when it comes to making games. I personally hope it is.
There are a lot of Easter eggs u can check them out in TH-cam and probably more will be found. It's definitely not a lot but it still has them

Don’t you love it when pokemon “fans” only complain about textures? (again)
No? Then you can't trigger these other flags."
It's still shockingly easy to clip out of bounds as you can see from the video and honestly, I wish it was broken as hell because then the speedruns wouldn't be ungodly tedious with how the game wants you to play.
Nah it doesn't need to be broken, glitchless run are more fun.
I found a cutscene skip in my playthrough. It was just you get into battle and you can walk through cutscene areas
