When Jacob was with strength and able to struggle with God to get him to bless him, God did not bless him and tried to leave when Jacob tried to force God to bless him. But when God disabled Jacob leaving him laying flat powerless and strengthless, that is when God blessed him.

@@oceanetcetera8328 Jacob has been using his own human strength (an example is lying to his father to get the first born inheritance) to gain blessings from God. But God has already said that he loved Jacob and hate Esau even before Jacob was born. God clearly want Jacob to stop using his human flesh to grab and fight for God's favor and blessing. So when Jacob was helpless unable to grab and wrestle for favor and blessings, God blessed him. God is teaching Jacob to depend on him rather than on his human flesh.

I don’t know many good Christians who haven’t been “maimed by God.” The wonderful thing is that when God “touches us to cause us to walk with a limp,” He also becomes our “cane to lean upon.” And therefore we can go about our life singing, “Leaning on Jesus, Leaning on Jesus, safe and secure from all alarms, Leaning on Jesus, Leaning on Jesus, leaning on the Everlasting Arms!” Ha! I can now walk straighter and further, even with a limp, now that I’m leaning on Jesus! Thank You, LORD!

Yes and its a tough lesson to learn especially for someone as hard headed as myself... I will confess to you my brother in Christ that when times are good I find it easy to praise God but when the waves come and they seem endless can I grow impatient and sometimes get upset with the Lord, it is my weakness and I constantly pray for change in my life to just accept God's will for my life but during these last times the grip of fear has overcome me on several occasions... Please pray for me so that I can trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding... I am sinful and need to move closer to the Lord Jesus

      @@christianlittle9348I believe you are correct.
2 Corinthians 12, Paul quotes Jesus who said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” God is perfect in every way, giving Him the power to make up for any weaknesses we have.
I am also learning this as well. It takes some getting used to as I have always tried to be the solver of my problems. Its a form of surrender, trust, and faith that I think many of us need to develop for a closer relationship with our Lord.

I always interpreted it as God finding favor with a man with the heart to both seek him and buck him. It's obviously futile. But I think that God loved his heart and blessed him for it. It's similar to the feeling of wrestling with a young boy like your son and being proud of the fight in him.
Secondary note, I didn't recall the part about Esau swearing vengeance. I thought he was bound to his brother even after getting swindled by him.

No one can see God. God reveals Himself through dreams and visions only. The Bible clearly says Moses is the only exception. Therefore, Jacob did not wrestle with God. Jacob wrestled with an angel. Angel represented God but not God Himself. Jacob thought he wrestled with God. That was just his unilateral proclamation not confirmed by any other Bible verses. In Hosea 12:4, Jacob's opponent is described as "malakh", which means angel.

Did he defeat God or did he surrender to him? Cause my Bible gives different versions. In the scripture Jacob wouldn’t release God until he blessed him. But in the notes at the bottom of the page the ”victory” was through crying out and begging for mercy. This clip kind of rides with the latter. And Tate doesn’t break while a psychologist he talked with suggested that maybe that’s what God wants him to do. So we have different guidelines/stories/versions/opinions on the matter 😩

@@cc3775 Oh goodness you have to be kidding. Jesus existed long before He was born as a man. Jesus is the Creator, all things were made through Him. Isaiah is filled with passages of Jesus speaking in the first person directly to us (Isaiah 49 for example) centuries before His Birth, There is ample evidence throughout scripture Jesus came down to the earth before He was born as a man.

@@ExperienceEric you have got to be kidding me!? Jesus didn’t create anything that was Yahweh alone. Men don’t exist prior to their birth.

      Genesis 32:26,28
26 Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.”
But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”
28 Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.”

Individual on our own accord absolutely but think this it the same God who spoke existence. Came into human form to be killed by man and rise again. This battle was done as a lesson on God's terms. Thats the difference, God didn't intend to kill him or destroy him he aimed to teach him a lesson. It's the context. God can choose instantaneous wrath in the same way he can choose forgiveness and compassion
