    Severum is one of my absolute favorite fish that get large but can live great in a 4 foot tank.

    @matthewzito6130 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    Common and Comet Goldfish are an obvious choice. A lot of people get them as babies and try to keep them in smaller tanks with predictably negative results. However, if you keep them in a large tank with good filtration and don't overstock it, they can grow to over a foot in length and live a long time (10+ years). Shubunkins are especially pretty and make an impressive, colorful display in a large tank or pond. Also, large Goldfish get surprisingly tame, taking food directly from you hand and nibbling on your fingers during water changes.

      I was going to say exactly this lol. Goldfish would make an excellent addition to a large species-only or community tank. They are my personal favorite freshwater fish due to their hardy nature, beautiful coloration, and friendly and intelligent personality. Highly recommend setting up a beautiful 75g+ goldfish display tank.

    I absolutely adore Oscars. Such a fantastic and rewarding fish to keep. I had an ~11 inch Albino Tiger named Chucky that I received already full grown from my brother who was thinning out his herd a bit. Every Oscar that I have kept over the years just had personality for days. It's cool to have a wet pet that is interested in what you're doing and doesn't just dart to cover like some do. I noticed that at the end of the video I saw a few Midas. I think that would be a good alternative to a Flowerhorn if you've got the space.

      I mean... Mine like ME, but not other fish. Neither would even live with a Pleco: My largest shredded his Pleco's fins. The long-term for both Plecs was a larger tank, anyway, and they thrived, when moved away from the Flowerhorns. Both of my Flowerhorns like to destroy almost anything we put in their tanks, and even rip tubing off of bubblers, roll giant bubblers to the other end of the tank, and even pull the extension pieces off of their filters on a regular basis. (Then demand you fix it. If you ignore then, they'll splash you!) I have to say that I love them, but my heart breaks, to have a single fish in such a large tank!

    So I'm going to be putting together a 75GAL male Map Turtle/fish tank. I plan on adding a male Northern Black-Knobbed & a male Pearl River Map. Both turtles have small heads/jaws and will max out at 3 to 5IN long. I was going to add Platies/Mollies/Shrimp/and possibly snails to the tank as well. I had this kind of setup in a 55GAL tank several years ago, but it was just one Map Turtle. It was a huge success. I'm also interested in possibly adding a larger fish or two, since I have a 75GAL tank with an above tank basking area that I plan on building out of acrylic soon. I need some larger fish candidates that won't harass my turtles, or be bullied by them either. I also need the candidates to not eat my whole population of Platies & Mollies, as I will be going for a self sustaining population like I had in the 55GAL tank. The tank substrate will be a custom 3D paint scheme to the outside bottom & back of the tank in three different colors of stone texture paints to simulate a rocky stream or lake. I will also be adding large gumball sized polished river rocks to the bottom, possibly a turtle-proof decoration or two, and a lot of silk suction cup plants stuck to the back wall of the tank. So there will be a decent amount of cover for baby fish to hide in. Any suggestions?

    I am very sad that you did not mention Ropefish. They are one of the best fish of all time. They are one of the best community fish, due to their more shy nature. Also, they truly look like little water dragons and less abrasive when compared to Bichirs, also, smaller mouths so you need to worry less about small fish being eaten. I am trying to figure out how to breed these guys and is one of the hardest tasks ever. Please mention them more in future videos please, I am always grateful for everything you do, just one time show some Ropefish love.

    In addition to Severums etc mentioned below there are definitely some others that are very interesting. I have a monster of a Blood parrot cichlid (rescue from a 5 gallon!) that will literally follow me around the room, eat out of my hand and will sit there swimming beside me for hours no matter what side of the tank I am sitting on.
    Geophagus Altifrons would also be a great one. They get quite large, not very aggressive and have unbelievable colour.
    Sailfin Plecos are an easy one. Very cheap, nearly every pet store has them and they can grow huge. Mine reaches from my elbow to my knuckles in length.

I used to leave my porch light on at night to attract these little sand colored Gecko lizards. I would rush out, grab them, toss them into the tank, & the Oscars would swallow them whole! In a 150, one day the largest Oscar is going to decide it wants the whole tank. You have several years before that's the case (usually), but they get grumpier as they get older and when they're about 14-15 inches, that 150 starts feeling cramped.
