The part where the coaster runs back and forth is separated from the station by a switch track, a little like you might find in a railroad yard. After leaving the station, the coaster passes over the switch and stops on the launch between the tower and back spike track, then a track switch moves behind it to let it go forwards and backwards. While the train is building up speed, one of the other trains is approaching the station (or is in the unload half of the station; we don't quite know what the setup will be) and the other is in the station loading guests. So 3 trains can run in total. Check out Cedar Point's animation for a visualization.
If they have only done a couple full tests. The computer is learning how much launch is required to get it over. It will take mutiple runs with different load rates to probably get the right number. Im sure it will be ready may. I got to magic mountain all the time. I have been waiting for this to make the trip to ohio since i live in seattle
So the video you see here is 5 clips, 3 are rollbacks and 2 made it over. From what I saw, if the ride rolls back on its second trip up the tophat (the swing that it should go over on), it stops coming back and resets as opposed to going for another swing.
Looks like safety testing to me, train at the peak with a roll back to make sure the system can stop it at a designated spot. That's why they aren't swing launching it. just sending it up the spike backwards.
These tests show they could program it to give full rollbacks for every ride if they really wanted ! Much higher than it does in that announcement video.
I wonder how a rollback will be handled by the control system, whereas with TTD you had to bring the train to a stop to try another launch, the magnetic launch system may not stop the train at all and be programmed to just give it another swing to try to get it over the top while it still has its momentum. Hypothetically if the second try was also a rollback it would likely br programmed to abort the attempt and stop the train.
I really can’t stress how pathetic it is that you didn’t see how it went closer to 70% up the spike, and that going above 330 feet twice in one ride is something no other coaster does. But I’m used to enthusiasts being incredibly annoying and nit picky
Literally the same. During TTD, 2nd train would have to wait for 1st train to clear the tower and then sometimes 1st train would have to wait for unloading station to clear. AND THEN the trains would have to wait for catch car to get in the position forever.
It usually goes up about 2/3 of the way, but one of the runs I got was odd because it had a low swing on the spike, which happens to be the first clip in this video.
I know people are wondering why it’s not completing the cycle every time. There is 2 reasons 1. It’s cold, roller coasters don’t do good in the cold. They are like any other machine they need to warm up to get to their full capacity. 2. The are still calibrating the LSMs (Linear Synchronous Motor) which are the magnets that propel the trains to 70-100-120 on the launch track. It takes time to calibrate LSMs (Linear Synchronous Motor) they are difficult to calibrate because each day has different conditions. I’m sure Cedar point is hard at work calibrating the LSMs (Linear Synchronous Motor).
As cool as it is and the whole spike thing is cool etc, I think Intamin doing the whole LSM thing couldve been much better. Wouldnt have the spike at all, and would guarentee a punchy launch
the train would be going off the track in the spike aka derailment and the train would crash to increase the launch's speed the spike and top hat's height had to be increased
This is so awesome to see! Would I be able to share this on my own channel and credit you? I’ve been following the construction (from U.K.) since the very beginning.
They built it that tall for looks. If the trains could reliably reach that height after two launches then they wouldn't need three to get over the top hat. Very gimmicky PR move on CF's part.

Literally the same. During TTD, 2nd train would have to wait for 1st train to clear the tower and then sometimes 1st train would have to wait for unloading station to clear. AND THEN the trains would have to wait for catch car to get in the position forever.
Why they build that huge spike if it only goes up half way
It usually goes up about 2/3 of the way, but one of the runs I got was odd because it had a low swing on the spike, which happens to be the first clip in this video.
Wow , it's 4 real.
They should've made the spike 40 feet taller and top thrill 2 would be the tallest roller coaster in the world
What's the point in making a 420 foot vertical spike if the cars dont even come close to reaching that height.
This ride makes millennium force look small
Let’s hope we get rollbacks when I get on it 3:17
Why even bither building a 420 ft spike if it's only going a 3rd of the way up. Could have put that extra height on the top hat
I know people are wondering why it’s not completing the cycle every time. There is 2 reasons
Reply: this is the best comment I’ve ever wrote 😂
What does LSM stand for?
@@ClosestToTheSunDamn you! You beat me to it! 😂
I'll never ride this. But I will watch it repeatedly...
As cool as it is and the whole spike thing is cool etc, I think Intamin doing the whole LSM thing couldve been much better. Wouldnt have the spike at all, and would guarentee a punchy launch
They need to increase the first 2 launches.
the train would be going off the track in the spike aka derailment
and the train would crash
to increase the launch's speed the spike and top hat's height had to be increased
Have you ever heard of initial testing and programming before?
@@jrjones604 yeah. As long as they launch stronger, we're good.
I wish the first launch went higher up the first tower. (even the animated promo videos have it going not-so-high). I'm sure it'll be a blast, though!
It's only going 2 thirds up the spike
0:52 what u hear when u on top thrill 2
Maybe this is a little too fast but the first launch should’ve been 100mph second launch 110mph and third 120mph
That would’ve been super boring and you wont feel any launches at all.
This is so awesome to see! Would I be able to share this on my own channel and credit you? I’ve been following the construction (from U.K.) since the very beginning.
Sure, just don’t crop out the watermark.
@@g-forceproductions1857 no problem at all! I’ll tag your name 💪.
I wish they would just bump up the speed to 130mph instead of capping it at 120mph
Hopefully it goes a bit further up that spike otherwise its just a pointless big spike that doesnt get used 😂
Where it did say it will go up to the top of the spike? I will wait here.
@jrjones604 where did I say it would reach the top? I said hopefully it goes a bit further up, please learn to read
I would never get on that thing !!
They really overestimated the need to have the spike that tall. Such a shame it doesn't go higher up the spike.
they are probably testing every scenario possible
They built it that tall for looks. If the trains could reliably reach that height after two launches then they wouldn't need three to get over the top hat. Very gimmicky PR move on CF's part.
Really funny how it won’t get close to the top of the spike.
The back of the train made it to the 3rd red, and you’re over here still managing to bitch about shit. This is proof that coaster enthusiasts are worse than women when it comes to constantly wanting more and more
Where it did say it will get close to the top of the spike? I will wait here.
@@jrjones604 when they called it a triple launch strata. Built a spike over 400
@@Feuerfr3istill not making a point to your comment. Lmao!! I bet you will still ride it 🤡🤡
@@jrjones604 please point out to where I said I wouldn’t. You’re attempting your gas light. But really failing hard at it. Try more.
The 420 foot spike is pointless
It's not supposed to be sharp
