Mike if you have to read one Neil Gaiman book, I think it should be The Ocean at the End of the Lane. Beautiful magic realism coming of age story and is barely 200 pages.
I always assumed BUTTERCUP'S BABY was just intended as a prank by William Goldman; a sample chapter that he included as a tease but never planned to actually write. Knowing that he might have fully written it under different circumstances adds a new layer.
I agree with wanting another book in the world of Warbreaker. When you mentioned Gaiman, I thought you were going to say Neverwhere. Yes there are some Gaiman books you need to read. You have said before there weren't enough stand alone fantasy books in the first place and he has a couple.
Watership Down is still my absolute favorite book, even after all these years! I reread it every couple of years, and I love the audiobook too. I loved seeing this on your list - excellent choice, sir!
Agree 100%! If I could pick any Stephen king for a sequel it would be Salems lot. I feel like there’s so much left to tell about the vampires and Mark’s story
@@luanamendes4767 I agree, plus if you count One For The Road as a short story “sequel”, the vampires are alive and well in The Lot, and part of me wonders if Barlow might be alive still too. I know we saw him die, but if a vampire could live that long, he’d know something about coming back from the dead.
Except for actually good. Because Dr. Sleep was laaaaame. I mean an ok book by itself but as a King book I was thoroughly underwhelmed. Probably my 2nd least favorite behind Song Of Susannah
Even though I read it for the first time in 1992, I still think about the crew from Swan Song and what they would have done with their new world. It was such a beautiful ending I wish we could’ve got another book about the coming of age story that follows that insane nightmare of a journey they all had.
I always daydreamed about a sequel to Pet Semetary, but done better than the movie with Edward Furlong (although Clancy Brown was friggen badass in PS2). But if written today, enough time would have passed for earlier events to be more urban legend... and you'd have folks who wouldn't respect history and are doomed to repeat it 😏
If I could pick any stand-alone book to get a sequel, it’s definitely The Stand. I love the book, but it isn’t my favorite King. Part of the reason why it’s not #1 King for me is I don’t feel like the story is finished. I’d like to see what happened to certain characters after the events. I’d also like to see what happened with the rest of the world. The Stand only focuses on the US, but the pandemic was worldwide. I think King could easily write another book continuing that story.
‘The primroses were over.’ A beautiful (yet harrowing) story from beginning to end. I’ve read it many times since I was a kid and it hits differently each time as I have aged. One of the most over-analyzed books, but as Richard Adams said “It’s just a story about rabbits.” Reread when you have time Mike, and share the book with your kids. It’s a story the author improvised to his kids on long car journeys across the downs and they insisted he put it to paper. Every reader should visit this book, and I think they will discover a sequel would diminish the original. I think I’m going to go pull it off my shelf again. 🙂 🐇
If you want to read more Neil Gaiman, I recommend AMERICAN GODS and it's basically a stand-alone. It technically has a spinoff novel, ANANSI BOYS, but neither book is dependent on the other. You could argue they're both stand-alones.
Mike! There is absolutely a sequel to The Stand, it’s rather brilliant actually…. “The man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed…”
I never read watership down but did watched the film when i was 9 that movie left me in tears i still cry thinking about it havent watched the remake version
There really hasn't been any books I would like to see a sequel for, that aren't already part of a series. Some of Lovecraft's stories would have been cool to have a follow up, but I think the unknown with those endings is what makes it work. Catcher in the Rye, maybe. But there are other stories that deal with that family that you can kind of piece together what probably happened with Holden.
Interesting topic! I had started a comment about Wayward Pines, but I do have to agree about with Crouch - it would cheapen that ending that I loved! I think Stephen King has already continued with his best book prime for a sequel with The Shining, although I'm interested in what the Cujo sequel in his new book is like.
I’ve always had a similar mindset about IT. I love the book so much, it’s one of my favourite books and I’d love a sequel but also feel like it may take away from the ending like you said. Maybe if it wasn’t necessarily Pennywise but another of his kind but I’m not sure, it would be a tricky one. But at least … SPOILERS FOR ANOTHER STEPHEN KING BOOK! We got to see some of the characters again in 11/22/63
As far as Stephen King goes, I want a sequel to firestarter. While it’s not my favorite book, I think there is a lot of story left there for Charlie. And I’d actually like to see her grown-up and meet up with Danny from the shining.
After watching Thinner for free, I decided to try the Mist, not expecting anything more than some entertainment and hopefully some old school fearlessness in storytelling, that in some now-forbidden tropes. (I was not dissapointed) Then I got to the end, and I was really mad. A couple of days later while thinking about it again I got over it. He is dark, but I couldn't handle the heavy Tomes. There is nothing worse to me than looking at great big book when you are stuck in the boring bits. When it came out, I read The Road. Based on the hype, I could tell it was a modern day classic and wanted to check it out. Maybe I was not in the right head frame then. I remembered I liked it, but not much else. Not sure about the other ones, Though the Princess Bride was a good movie. I need to read To Kill a Mockingbird. Lol. good old GenX. The boomers, parents having seen some rough times, especially for real Hard Times, also Vietnam, decided they didn't want to raise up a bunch of snowflakes and decided to scare us from time to time. Chriton is pretty good. I am not much a reader and prefer classics because of that, but Chriton is a good read, like Stephen King.
I think Nightblood is the coming sequel to Warbreaker. In another dimension, there's a sequel to Dark Matter. In a sense the tv show is the sequel, since it has new material.
But do we need a new Warbreaker? Im completely satisfied with Stormlight taking from there, i mean, Vasher and Nightblood are pretty much Stormlight characters at this point, im totally ok with their story only continue in the future stormlight books.
If you're craving more dark matter, read Replay by Ken Grimwood. I am willing to read any book you recommend if you read that one and don't like it! I'm that confident 😂
I don't know if you could actually do a sequel to The Road. I always took that ending paragraph to be a eulogy for a dead world. I know some people see hope in it, but I don't. Humanity is going extinct. It has, at best, a few years left. I also like the fact that the cause is left ambiguous.
Christine needs a sequel because Dennis does allude to the possibility of Christine coming back to kill everyone who stood against her, saving Dennis for last.
On knowing what happens in stories, i always want to know what happens after disaster movies. What happens the day after The Day After Tomorrow, after San Andreas
Here are some sequel ideas for books, sequels to Willow, and The Neverending Story. Their movie and TV sequels were awful. If they made book sequels, they might've worked better. Might. A book sequel to Animal Farm might be interesting too.
Hey, Mike! I just wanted to mention that there is a To Kill a Mockingbird sequel, it’s called Go Set a Watchman and sadly it failed to capture the magic of that first book for me. I’d love to get your opinion about that one if you ever get to read it.
Ha. Actually I get grilled for counting them as individual books. Check my Top 10 Books of All Time video. All the comments are mad I count Fellowship as 1 book.
Good to see videos are back on the channel, I'm assuming everything can be restored from youtube retaining and restoring everything as it was.
Mike if you have to read one Neil Gaiman book, I think it should be The Ocean at the End of the Lane. Beautiful magic realism coming of age story and is barely 200 pages.
"Scarlett" is in my Kindle. Loved your reaction to it and it probably makes me want to read it now 😆!
Gone With the Wind - yes! Warbreaker - yes! The Princess Bride - no! It's perfect anything else would have been a let down!!
I always assumed BUTTERCUP'S BABY was just intended as a prank by William Goldman; a sample chapter that he included as a tease but never planned to actually write. Knowing that he might have fully written it under different circumstances adds a new layer.
Hey we Gen-Xer's had a lot of scary stuff. We played with lawn darts after all.😊
I agree with wanting another book in the world of Warbreaker. When you mentioned Gaiman, I thought you were going to say Neverwhere. Yes there are some Gaiman books you need to read. You have said before there weren't enough stand alone fantasy books in the first place and he has a couple.

Glad to see that your channel is back!
I don't think my heart could cope with a sequel to The Road... I cried like a baby over that book! Amazing!
I would have loved to have seen a Dr. Sleep style sequel to Salem’s Lot. Like Mark’s life after Ben dies and we see why/ how Ben died.
He was going to but then he wrote the dark tower v, which to King, acted like a sequel. Agree though. Would have loved more as it’s my favourite
Except for actually good. Because Dr. Sleep was laaaaame. I mean an ok book by itself but as a King book I was thoroughly underwhelmed. Probably my 2nd least favorite behind Song Of Susannah
@@Aust51989 which short story collection of his was “one for the road” in? I have never crossed paths with it as far as I remember.
My biggest issue with Dark Matter was leaving so many storylines open but especially Amanda’s. I want to know what happened to her.
I’m still hoping Susanna Clark writes a sequel to Dr. Strange and Mr. Norrell.
Even though I read it for the first time in 1992, I still think about the crew from Swan Song and what they would have done with their new world. It was such a beautiful ending I wish we could’ve got another book about the coming of age story that follows that insane nightmare of a journey they all had.

Yes Mike, you have to revisit Watership Down! It gets better every time I read it.
Totally agree about the stand and the road would had liked to seen a sequel
The Sword of Kaigen! I need more of that style of combat
A PREQUEL to The Road could be so fun! But I understand what you mean about not knowing what happens adding to the story!
I really love your videos Mike. Everytime i see on epop up on my feed my day just gets a bit better
Nice to see your channel back. Congratulations 🎉👏. Greetings from Germany
Sphere is such an amazing book!! So underrated
Tales from Watership Down is a bit of a mixed bag, but several of the stories are really good. I'd recommend picking it up
If I could pick any stand-alone book to get a sequel, it’s definitely The Stand. I love the book, but it isn’t my favorite King. Part of the reason why it’s not #1 King for me is I don’t feel like the story is finished.

Can we get a Mike Hanlon spin off? The one who never left.
Phew! The channel is back!
Hey glad to see you’re safe after that tornado scare.
Gracias!
‘The primroses were over.’ A beautiful (yet harrowing) story from beginning to end. I’ve read it many times since I was a kid and it hits differently each time as I have aged. Always love your videos, Mike! I think a sequel to The Stand would be interesting! It’s my favorite Stephen King book.
If I recall King once said that fans often asked him what happen to Stu and everyone after The Stand.
All my life, I hoped & prayed Judy Blume would give us a follow up to Superfudge.
If you want to read more Neil Gaiman, I recommend AMERICAN GODS and it's basically a stand-alone. It technically has a spinoff novel, ANANSI BOYS, but neither book is dependent on the other. You could argue they're both stand-alones.
Brian Keene and Christopher Golden are editing an anthology of stories set in the world of The Stand. Stephen King wrote the intro.
Mike! There is absolutely a sequel to The Stand, it’s rather brilliant actually…. “The man in black fled across the desert and the gunslinger followed…”
Hey Mike are there any sequels by different authors you think live up to the original?
I would like to see a sequel to The Sword of Kaigen, there’s so much more to explore in that world and I’d love to see Hiroshi grown up.
It was definitely left open enough for a sequel!
The Sword of Kaigen is technically a prequel. M.L. Wang is just discontinuing the main series
The channel is back!
Your thoughts on Warbreaker makes me want a list of novels that you want that you believe that we're actually going to get.
I want Swan Song by Robert McCammon to have a sequel
IT is included in The Dark Tower series so IT technically already has a sequel :) Also to me The Talisman was like a spiritual sequel to The Stand.
Channel has been hacked I'm assuming... was so confused for a second
I never read watership down but did watched the film when i was 9 that movie left me in tears i still cry thinking about it havent watched the remake version

Heinleins Starship Troopers. It's a short novel with so many ideas, it's a great story and it ends all too soon.
A Princess Bride sequel would be awesome i agree 😊
Stardust too!

Alternative title: "10 standalone books that I wish had a sequel... or didn't."
I would love to have seen a sequel to Firestarter.
I loved the Watership down cartoon! watching it as a little kid was scary though. cheers
I'd love to see a sequel to Cabal by Clive Barker.
As far as Stephen King goes, I want a sequel to firestarter. While it’s not my favorite book, I think there is a lot of story left there for Charlie. And I’d actually like to see her grown-up and meet up with Danny from the shining.
Good Omens tv series serves as a sequel once season 1 finishes. Gaiman is writing the episodes.
After watching Thinner for free, I decided to try the Mist, not expecting anything more than some entertainment and hopefully some old school fearlessness in storytelling, that in some now-forbidden tropes. I’ll skip Scarlett lol! Wow one of the worst. I’m gonna read Princess Bride. I forgot it was a book first. Interesting vid! 📚📚📚📚👍🏻
Bro officially a One Piece fan
Any thoughts on Tigana?
Watership Down is my all time favorite novel. I felt Stardust was a huge letdown.
I don't know if you could actually do a sequel to The Road. I always took that ending paragraph to be a eulogy for a dead world. I know some people see hope in it, but I don't. Humanity is going extinct. It has, at best, a few years left. I also like the fact that the cause is left ambiguous.
How about a sequel to Salem's Lot or Christine
I didn't read the last two dark tower books but doesn't at least the priest wind up in Poland's world.
Christine needs a sequel because Dennis does allude to the possibility of Christine coming back to kill everyone who stood against her, saving Dennis for last.
Sphere is a great book properly better than JP for me. Wouldn’t mind a sequel to The Mist from Stephen king
On knowing what happens in stories, i always want to know what happens after disaster movies. What happens the day after The Day After Tomorrow, after San Andreas
Hot take. I don't want sequels because they are never as good. Warbreaker and Dark Matter were fantastic though.

Isnt there a Warbreaker sequel scheduled called Nightblood?
There is. Brandon’s had it planned for about a decade.
The Eye of the World deserved a sequel 😜
How about a sequel to The Troop or NAS4A2
I came here hungry for stand alones. I'm actually done with eight books series.
Some absolute waffle here.
Good thing I love waffles. Thanks for watching!
omg what happened to Tony Stark in Endgame?
Hey, Mike! I just wanted to mention that there is a To Kill a Mockingbird sequel, it’s called Go Set a Watchman and sadly it failed to capture the magic of that first book for me. I’d love to get your opinion about that one if you ever get to read it.
I would love a sequel to the hobbit🤣
There is a follow on to princess bride it terrible it only 1st chapter, the road sound good
I think I’ve seen you count lord of the rings as a single book… let’s say a sequel to the all time great fantasy
Ha. Actually I get grilled for counting them as individual books. Check my Top 10 Books of All Time video. All the comments are mad I count Fellowship as 1 book.
Standalone books are great. I don't think everything needs to be a bloated 10 book series.
Any michael crichton!!! Also this is kind of cheating but LotR if you count it as one book
Dude, what is going on with your channel? Your page name is changed to Micro, getting a bunch of videos about bitcoin. I'm assuming you're hacked.
It keeps getting hacked he has control of instagram and twitter just the TH-cam got hacked

Glad the Bitcoin nightmare is gone
I'm so sorry Mike, but have you seen the trailer for Iron Man 4?
Your channel is hacked
