Smith can be very underappreciated in terms of epic lines. Some say his goofy antics undermine his serious moments but I think it's enhances them. When the Raggedy Man fades and the Time Lord emerges, you know something serious is about to go down.

First got to know John Hurt when he was playing The Storyteller in Jim Henson's series of the same name. I knew right away he was a top-shelf actor, and he never diminished that opinion.
This one and the day of the doctor are my favorites and can't wait to watch their reactions for both of them.

Trenzalore has been mentioned before. Remember Dorian(the blue head guy) The doctor asked him why the silents believed his future had to be averted. Dorian says, "On the fields of Trenzalore at the fall of the eleventh when no living creature can speak falsely or fail to answer a question will be asked...The silents are determined the question will never be answered, that the doctor will never reach Trenzalore... Doctor who?"

The 12 Regeneration rule was established years before The Eighth Doctor movie
And even if events in the movie aren't canon, Paul McGann is still the 8th Doctor regardless
It was never a rule, just a the way things are usually done. Some people have more than 12 Regenerations some have less.
@@Kekkersboy No. It is a rule. It was established in the Deadly Assassin that Time Lords only have 12 Regeneration. There has been some instances of Time Lords getting extra like The Doctor does in Time of the Doctor and how the Master was resurrected by the Time Lords for the Time War alongside Rassilon. It is a rule, refered to by the Daleks as "The Rule of Regeneration".

I really like the solution to Clara's mystery: the Impossible Girl was in fact a very normal human being, who just happened to be the Doctor's companion at the time he went to Trenzalore.

"Introducing John Hurt as The Doctor" Still gives me the chills all these years later.
As is obvious by now I adore Clara, so I really love this whole "I was born to save the Doctor" idea, and the reveal of why there are echos of her throughout time.
Vastra, Jenny and Strax all thankfully survived. The GI was... defeated. We got to see my beloved River Song again, and she interacted with Clara which was FANTASTIC!
Trenzalore, the final resting place of the Doctor. And bigger on the outside TARDIS.

I've been waiting for this one. SO thrilled by Eric's reaction to John Hurt...and even more thrilled for the crew's reaction to the next two episodes. They're my favorite Doctor Who episodes.

I always loved how “run you clever boy, and remember me” by Clara Prime became “run you clever boy, and remember” in all the other versions - the last syllable being missed off the echos
This episode was soooooo satisfying, especially as a conclusion to Clara's mystery. She wasn't anyone special, or a special trap laid out by the universe for the Doctor. She was just an ordinary girl who happened to be there and sacrificed herself to save the Doctor. All through series 7B the Doctor has not fully trusted Clara, always keeping a suspicious eye on her despite his growing affection for her. With this mystery cleared up, and the knowledge of what she did for him, he won't hold back any more, and their relationship in the coming episodes and series will become deeper and deeper.
Nothing compared to River though!
I think because 11th cautiousness of Clara is why I prefer her as the companion of the 12th
This is a good finale to the season !!. We finally get the answer as to why Clara is the Impossible Girl and I thought it was cool and satisfying .
It’s always nice to see Strax ,Vastra and Jenny aswell as River , her moment with the Doctor towards the end was emotional .
Also that cliffhanger is crazy ....I can’t wait for you guys to watch the 50th!!
I honestly felt this episode would've been better if the opening sequence didn't happen, where they "spoil" the end of the episode.
Showing Clara with the first doctor? Good.

While the actual resolution at the end of the episode is a bit too "Timey Wimey Wibble Wobbly it just works" for my taste, and I don't know how I actually feel about some of the story implications, I do still absolutely love the rest of the episode. Lot of great fun, lot of drama, and some great performances by the cast too. Matt Smith in particular is fantastic during that scene where the Doctor's mask briefly slips and he starts breaking down about having to go to Trenzalore.

I seem to recall in the Let's Kill Hitler episode, River gave her remaining regeneration stuff to the Doctor, not the other way around.
@Castiel Feather My headcanon - slight spoiler alert I guess - is that the Let's Kill Hitler regeneration transplant is what extended the Doctor's span and may also have had some side effects. A certain somebody else is already known to have exceeded their original limit through various means, and similar side effects appear to have eventually happened there.
But yeah, there's the hand thing, and I think also another instance of Tennant almost regenerating, but I seem to have forgotten it myself.
Right it was Angels Take Manhattan when the Doctor gave up some regeneration energy.
I think Clara might be my favourate companion.
They've had alot of good ones though.
Been waiting for this reaction. I may be harsh on series 7, maybe even a little _too_ harsh, but that reveal at the end might go down as my favourite reveal in the whole show. A mystery Doctor, one we've never seen before, who did something so bad that later incarnations refused to acknowledge him and even straight up despise him, played by the legendary John Hurt. That was such an awesome moment back when it aired. I knew what was coming but I still get goosebumps re-watching this, from the first shot of him and especially when he starts talking.
As much as I'm looking forward to seeing all of them react to the next amazing episodes, if I'm honest Calvin's reactions are the ones I'm most excited for. His knowledge of classic who will make this especially meaningful. But I know they're all just going to be losing their minds and I'm pretty sure there will be onion ninjas around.
Yeah I'm so ready for Calvin's reaction to all the Gallifrey stuff, and the Tom Baker cameo, and all the classic who callbacks

Hey Aaron I know this might not be possible but when you show them the 50th anniversary do you think you could blur out the intro credit names of David Tennant and Billie Piper during their viewing of the episode? I know you might have already filmed it and editing might be a pain but seeing them go in completely blind to the return of the two of them would be crazy cool

Man I love this episode, and I think that especially this part about Clara is cool as hell. However, I have always disdained the whole vibe they set up with, "River isn't that important to the doctor, Clara is way more important." Even though later (way later -_-, and technically in this episode but still) they show that's not true, it still drove me crazy. I have to remind myself of that line, "You are always here to me. And I always listen. And I can always, see you.", like he's always thinking of her. Like, I don't need an epic love (of any kind, *especially* romantic) story after River! That aspect was always the thorn in my side with Clara, otherwise I'd like her completely. She's really fun after all. That's another main reason I was excited Capaldi was the doctor, I think it was even talked about somewhere before. No more 'Silly crushes'.
I'm glad Aaron seems to love River, and River and the Doctor, as much as I do lol.

This episode is simply - all that is best about Doctor Who. Plus it has one of my three favourite companions (along with Amy and Sarah-Jane).
Does anyone remember waaaaay back early on in these reactions they were speculating on who would make a good doctor. Eric's first choice was John Hurt. Let me know if you remember which reaction it was in. I guess it would be somewhere around Christmas Invasion maybe?

Very thankful that this is not River's last appearance. I do love the way her final episode goes, though I won't spoil which that is for anyone who doesn't already know.
The movie is canon. Remember in the "Human Nature," "the Next Doctor," and "the Eleventh Hour" episodes, all of which showed faces of past Doctors...they all show Paul McGann from the TV movie. He is the Eighth Doctor.
Five(Ish) Doctors Reboot is a must for them to watch. They'll really enjoy it and it's a bit silly to exclude it as it was a big part of the 50th. A lot more than that crap Last Day minisode.

It may have been said further down, but it is Essential, especially given your comments, that you watch the mini episodes leading up to the 50th Anniversary episode. You simply HAVE to watch Night of the Doctor, as it answers a lot of your questions. BTW, Mark Gatis is the name of the writer/actor you were looking for.

Why the Doctor doesn't wanted to go to Trenzelore
He is trying to avoid to make that a fixed point
Like if it didn't happen to the doctor he might be able to change it, if it happend to him he can't change it anymore.
Story wise they get around it with changing the fact in the first place like when river shot the doctor duplicate

River is one of the best if not the best characters ever written, when you think her appearances are in reverse or at least out of order
For anoyone confused about the Regeneration thing I will expalin, if you watch along with Blind Wave then dont read this as I will spoil a future episode.
In the Deadly Assassin, a Tom Baker (4th Doctor) episode it was established that Time Lords can only Regenerate 12 times, that means that there will be 13 of each timelord unless they are killed before they get to regenerate. Matt Smith is the 11th Doctor but John Hurt plays "The War Doctor" who was the Doctor during the Time War and fits in between the 8th and 9th Doctor. Although he didn't call himself the Doctor he still was a regeneration. As well as that, when David Tennant regenerated in Journey's End and kept the same face, that also still counted as a regeneration. That means that the 11th Doctor can not regenerate as he has used them all up. He has claimed a few times that he could but I guess he was just lying. In Time of the Doctor we see the Doctor get saved by the Time Lords and is given a new Regeneration Cycle so he has 12 more.

In "Let's kill Hitler" River gave to the doctor her regeneration energy, not athor way round.
When it comes to the great intelligence, they introduced them in 'the snowmen' and are the being behind the group in 'the bells of saint John'. The idea bring that they've used this time to grow smarter and evolve, so now they don't need the body.

Still wish they would've named Hurt's regeneration The Warrior (or the War Doctor, but I've never liked that designation) right off the bat. Introducing him as The Doctor here when the entire point of him is that he doesn't identify as such just muddies everything up more than needed.
I hope they are planning to watch the mini-episode "Night of the Doctor" next. It is next in line before the "The Day of the Doctor" 50th special. Night of the Doctor is a must watch!!!!

John Hurt has been so many different roles, obviously the elephant man, launching the alien from his chest, Quinton Crisp, Olivanda, but when he turned around, he forever became “THE DOCTOR” thank mr hurt for having the vision too accept the role.
Aaron did a nice job here kinda pointing everyone in the right direction without spoiling anything. Well done.
