Everytime i deliver to Cedar key, i pass by Rosewood and i feel extremely sad, and angry knowing how hard life is, and knowing some of that beautiful land with natural florida palms 🌴 should've been passed down to me. There were several mass graves at Rosewood. I grew up in a town near by. I grew up with Jason and Shannon McElvein. Their grandfather Mr McElvein was 17 years old and participated in the massacre. He bragged until the day he died about trying to impress a friend after helping put 15-20 bodies in a pit next to state road 24. The friend replied that that was nothing because he had helped put at least 30 in a pit not far away. He spoke about how they went back some time in the 1950's and dug up the graves and scattered the bones in the woods between Gulf Hammock and Otter Creek. They did this because there were already numerous remains there from the people that froze to death hiding in the woods. He laughed about how as late as the early 70s they would find remains in the woods while hunting. Their dogs would sometimes bring human bones from the woods. Mr McElvein even testified about this in front of State Congress in Tallahassee. As a child, I've heard him speak of it personally. My cousin's and I were friends with Jason and Shannon. They're grandfather hated that until the day he died. I don't think I've ever felt so much hate come from a person's stare. You can read his testimony online now. It's public record. What's not public record is the reason the bodies were moved. Word came from Tallahassee that people were pushing for answers about what happened and they knew about the mass graves. So, essentially, a few State officials with connections to what happened covered their tracks. As it happened and afterwards, My family and many others fed and took care packages to the victims. After the train carried the victims from Rosewood, it stopped in Chiefland at the old train depot. Blacks and whites carried blankets, food, and medicine to the people on the train. Many people wept with them because they were friends and knew each other since before the massacre. Only the women and Children were allowed to leave on the train. The bodies were those of the men that were not allowed to leave and there were at least 150 of them and as many as 300. The first man that was lynched was not Aaron Carrier. He survived the massacre and was the husband of Mis Muhullda "Gussie" Carrier. They moved back to Gainesville and had to change their identity several times. Miss Gussie used to dress as a man, and tutor white students in the basement of the University of Florida. She was the second black female principal in Florida's History. Many people including some in her family believe that she committed suicide, but her and her husband Aaron survived and escaped the massacre. Sam Carter was the first man to be lynched. He was lynched in between Rosewood and Bronson. Also, the clan was very much involved. There was a huge clan rally in Gainesville the night before. The theme was, "Protecting white women from black savages.". This helped to fuel the high turnout of people from outside the community. Old man Cotton Fletcher who was a high ranking clansman from Gainesville and who is still highly regarded by some in the area was said to be the main organizers. He is considered one of the most prolific lynch mob organizers in the south.

My first time hearing about Rosewood, was the movie , with Ving rhames Don cheadle, Esther rolle and Jon voight (Angelina Jolie 's famous actor father) and it's still horrified me even back then as a child watching it.. the more movies like that really showed America's dark history to mean early age without the movie directed by John Singleton I would have never been hipped on to what this country was about at a early age then of course the next real History lesson would be black wallstreet but much later and not a movie form😢.

I graduated High School 25 yrs ago, borne & raised in Louisiana, & I Don't have children, so I'm not sure what Public High Schools are teaching these days on History, American History, Black History, etc. I remember learning about Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., Minister Malcolm X, Other Civil Rights Leaders & All The Good They've Done!
Now This Is Just MY Opinion, but I Believe that ALL Schools in EVERY STATE IN AMERICA MUST Include In American History the Horrific Massacres, Atrocities, and "CRIMES Against Humanity" that were done to Black Communities!
It wasn't until 2002 that Schools in Oklahoma started teaching on the "Tulsa Oklahoma Race Massacre" (Black Wall Street) & FINALLY In 2020 the Massacre "Officially" became a part of the Oklahoma School Curriculum! We Can't Afford to keep acting like these events never happened!
I am a Christian & I believe that God Made Us ALL To Love One Another!
I Believe Racism Is TAUGHT & Therefore Compassion, Love, & Empathy can ALSO Be Taught by NOT Forgetting the Past and By Teaching Our Children, At A Suitable Age, about The Rosewood & Tulsa Oklahoma Massacres! We teach our children about the Holocaust & yet we Don't Teach them about the Atrocities that happened in our Own Country to Our Own Citizens! 🙏♥️🤝

Some of us were always cool with eachother. Also the people from the west coming here to hide. Flagler and the bodies still inside of his "over seas railroad" connecting NY to key west. This was a very informative presentation and the significance is that Rosewood highlights the sociopathic and psychopathic nature of Caucasians which has not significantly changed.
Hidden Black History needs to be revealed and reviewed as this Author has stated.
If their has been no significant healing among the perpetrators then the victims are not allowed to heal either.
Rosewood is a tragic story of genocide, property theft and the denial of Humanity. There is an obligation to be spiritually healed as well.

I LOVE these Dunn Brothers for working so well together! And for being so capable of bringing to the forefront the importance of History! Mostly, though, I love their ability to discuss Rosewood’s existence, then & now, as a FACT, rather than as some hysterical, emotionally-driven time capsule.
Many human atrocities have occurred in the USA-concept. Tulsa & Rosewood aren’t even complete fractions of what’s been done to effect Systemic Injustice/Racism. Though, lately, they loom large in the general national imagination for their dramatic details of massacres “at hands unknown.”
But without a vantage of History, Confusion and misinterpretation of events and circumstances are still leading people to draw FALSE conclusions-some of which are still having deadly consequences to this day for Nonwhite people, mostly, but for White people to some extent, too.
Dr. Dunn is 💯 Correct when he says, “You need to walk the land,” Everything people learn in theory takes on entirely new meaning & context when they do!!
GREAT work presenting Truth without hyperbole & in a humane manner all around. There are always complexities in human nature, not limited to “being” (or being lumped into) in some group that makes it easier for the perpetually Stupid to stay stuck there. 🌸🌷🕯🌱🌸
    ♥️🤍💙🤎💖💕🖤💛♥️💖🖤

He was an.old man so they brought him along to safety. What happened to him.

My family is also descendents my mom family is the Bradley family. My great grand parents James n Helen Bradley was actually the ones who had the land for sale . That's my Great grandaddy was the one they hid at the store. What most don't know is his wife was white . The daughter of the largest slave owner in Florida. When slavery ended Master Bradley gave all his slaves his land to his slaves and went back to Germany. That's why they were doing better than the white there. I was told the real story before there was the watered down book and movie. This was more about jealousy of wealth and land. The rape call was just an excuse. I actually have real pics of them. The story really doesn't stop there. It's more

@@crystalspiritualmessenger8213 when you watch the movie take a different perspective the movie shows but doesn't tell. The train stops in the middle of that black neighborhood that was once the middle of the Bradley plantation. Once of the train your in the middle of a business district of skilled black businesses. People traveled to get that good product from those blacks. Understand whites hadn't done anything for 400 years but for generations blacks had passed down skills within. So the only jobs whites had was the lumber yard and some blacks even worked there.
