    Excellent job on this video - I watch it when I forget particular sequences. Such an easy to follow guide. Thank you!

    You're the best man. A "little" detail I needed to know was what card holds what data base. And right off the bat you broke it down in your description. Many thanks.

    Best video on how to update the data cards and the G1000. I watch it every time before I do the update.

    Al.....I can’t thank you enough for this video! You made what is a convoluted and poorly explained process in other videos extremely easy to follow. This is bookmarked and will be used in the future!

    Awesome, thanks for the data. I learned to fly "steam punk" everything and finished up my IFR using "steam punk" while my instructor fiddled around with something called a "GPS" receiver on the right side of the panel. This "GPS" thing through some kind of magic incantation and witchcraft was able to interface with the Nav. heads. All I know is I managed to work into an IFR rating that I enjoyed flying. It was actually fun flying actual IFR working on the ticket. Looking forward to flying a glass panel with an airplane in a hanger fairly soon. Thanks for your Cirrus information.

    You should note in the title that you are updating with Jeppeson. I am using Garmin in my G5 G1000 panel and Garmin Pilot on the tablet. Most setups have four dedicated cards. PFD upper is the Nav card. PFD lower is the Garmin DB card prime. MFD upper is the Data Logging card, MFD lower is the Garmin DB backup card.
    After updating on the PC replace the PFD/MFD Garmin DB cards in their slots. When updating with the Nav card, start with the PFD which has an empty upper slot. Power up. Skip the backup database for Nav as you did in the video. Power down. Then remove the logging card from the upper MFD slot and put in the Nav card and do the update on that side too. Then power down again and replace the Data Logging card in the MFD. Save the Nav card somewhere for later updates (I use a plastic CD clamshell cover which lets me transport all the SD cards to update on my PC at home). You are done.

      No need to do nav updates on both sides. If you do the nav update as shown on the MFD side, it will automatically cross-sync to the PFD.

      Thanks Speedo. Sounds like you use the other way of updating via Garmin. Jeppessen and Garmin are places where the databases can be bought. I know you know that but stating it here for others.

    • @speedomars
      @speedomars 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MikeKobb The Nav update is needed if you forgo the synch option as I do. I also do not use the backup DB update feature. I wait for the new updates from Garmin, load them onto the cards and update plane as they come out.

    • @speedomars
      @speedomars 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@al.waterloo Yes. I wanted Cirrus owners to know they do not have to stick with Jeppesen. The factory will load Jeppesen and give a one year subscription on new aircraft. But if later you want to switch to the less costly Garmin products you have to pay for a maint. change in the panel, you can't just load Garmin on top of Jeppesen. If you don't want to pay that penalty later, then tell Cirrus not to update the panel with Jeppesen, but use Garmin instead from the get go. Garmin will also discount their EFB Garmin Pilot if you use their DB software.

    • @MikeKobb
      @MikeKobb 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@speedomars Out of curiosity, why don't you let the G1000 sync the data from MFD to PFD?

    Al, Great video. Thanks for all the step by step instruction. Also might want to mention that the top MFD slot should have the Data Logging Card in it, to be taken out when updating the NavData, and then put back in when completed.

    Rather than lug the laptop to the plane every 28 days, is there another best practice? Can I duplicate the MFD/PFD cards and keep one full set at home, update, bring to the plane and bring the older ones back?

    Al, after following this it shows my Stby NAV database expiring in a week or so and it’s in yellow. How is the Stby nav database updated?

    • @al.waterloo
      @al.waterloo  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You usually have to update the databases during the Grace period between cycles. You can do this procedure when the new databases are available and then just click “yes” to updating the standby databases.

      Those go on the PFD and MFD bottom cards as well. Only diff between the two bottom cards should be the charts. Charts only go on the bottom MFD card.
