Another fantastic race!!! I feel sorry for JJ Letho because he done an outstanding job in wet conditions. I can't wait a second to see the last race. I go for that video right now.
Never really enjoyed Bernd Schneider and his driving, when competing against Kurt Thiim in DTM.. But that save from a conplete 360, at the start. That was amazing...
Quick question: do you know why the McLaren F1 GTR never competed in the GT1 class in events like the 12 Hours of Sebring or the 24 Hours of Daytona? Because I watched other videos and, not even in the GT1 class in 1998 in the 24 Hours of Daytona, I didn´t saw any F1 GTR in the GT1 class starting grid, apart from the 911 GT1 and the Esperante GTR-1. Apart from the FIA GT Championship, this was the only moment where the F1 GTR competed in the US.
There a slight difference between IMSA regulations, or ALMS as it was called back then, and then the FIA.. In structural size, BoP and fuel consumption. Back in the 90's, there wasn't really any competition from USA in the prototype class. Except for the inferior Panoz.. It changed when IMSA took over in sports car racing. And Dallara came in to help them, and Indycar. They used to be called Daytona Prototypes, and are now LMDh. Which is why there is a DPi in most of the cars name now. They are eligible to compete in Le Mans 24hr
@@mortenfrosthansen84 I know many of that because I used to watch Rolex Sports Cars Series races (and other series like NASCAR) on Speed Channel when I was in primary school, because of searching in Wikipedia constantly and because of watching older races in TH-cam, but thanks for telling me anyway. A small notice, I´m from Argentina and I was born in 1997, that´s why I´m not aware of many things. Thanks again.
Wow, I love that blue Morgan. What class is that in? Never seen anything retro (whatever you wanna call it) in GT-class racing. Gonna have to do so research.
The air restrictors favoured the normally aspirated engines in the Benz & McLaren, plus the banning of ABS from 96 to 97 wasn't a help for the Porsche's either.
I kind of got the feeling that Sebring would be the Porsche's chance to shine when I saw it running second behind a Mercedes that was bottoming out, but it really didn't turn out that way.
I don't know about the marshaling rules in the US and in Europe at the time so I can't comment on the fire situation. But I do know Andy Evans was empire building at the time, having bought the IMSA in 1996, Sebring and Mosport Park as well as fielding a large number of sports cars and Indy Cars. It was probably very costly to bring the FIA to the race and with the weather, he probably lost a lot of money. It also sounds like the European drivers were not happy being made to race on a wet circuit, all of this killing any chances for the FIA to come back after this.
Simon Taylor there was a deep misunderstanding of how marshalling works in the USA there. Awful bit of misinformation’s commentary. And this is from a British marshal.
I wish I was able to live and see all this when it was live. Golden era! Beautiful cars!! GT1 !!
I was at the Silverstone round. These things were glorious. Have photos on my instagram.👍🏁
MontyMotorsport you are lucky! Beautiful machines.
JJ was a hero there, trying to save that masterpiece. Well done 👍
Thanks for posting this. I've been looking for it for years.
Glad I could help👍🏁
Imagine "Rain Master" Hans Stuck spinning twice. Conditions must have been diabolical.

Nice to see the GTL Lister Storm make an appearance!
I love those times. That was real racing. I miss this also i miss old F1 and DTM, Touring cars.
RIP Greg Moore 01:13
I never knew he had run a Sports Car.

28:11 Those marshals were completely useless in that incident the excellent UK marshals would had put that fire out in seconds
The Shrew 88 as a Uk marshal no we wouldn’t as we like them wouldn’t of been allow trackside.
@@bert1981 Seems that wasn't the case in 1997. th-cam.com/video/0jyB6AsJDyI/w-d-xo.html @26 minutes.

GT2 class. 👍🏁
The Panoz sounds amazing. Why were the Porsche’s so slow?

Race cars used to be beautiful
They literally just stood around and let brah out the fire himself lol
The most Florida thing that could happen
The marshals really are kicking themselves these days , they let a 20mill car burn

Could you elaborate? I'm genuinely interested. Cheers 👍
Makes no differ4nce this is an FIA event therefore the marshalls should meet a certain standard. They were beyond useless
hakkalocken at American circuit they don’t go track side on a live track to deal with incidents so they doing exactly as they are trained.
Twilight1964 they are at that standard and they are doing exactly as they are trained to do.
Imagine if u told those people that the F1 they race would later sell for 20-30 Million dollar xD
great times and then there’s green park !, yikes
