Britain has committed multiple genocides across five continents (from neighbouring Ireland in Europe to North America to Africa to Asia to Oceania), a fact they shamelessly continue to deny.
Britain has commited so many crimes against humanity (and crimes against the planet), it would take several volumes of books to explain their countless acts of cruelty.
Britain (and it's predecessor state, England) has committed multiple genocides in neighbouring Ireland, from the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland to the Great Irish famine/Genocide to the murdering and torturing of Irish Republicans by the Black and Tans to murdering innocent civilians in the Dublin Monaghan bombings and the civilians gunned down in two Bloody Sundays in Ireland (google all of it).
Britain was the second largest enslaver in the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, a trade which resulted in the deaths of millions of African slaves as they were treated like cattle and worked to near death. Britain abolished slavery after paying reparations not to the slaves but to the slave owners!!!. Britain continued with slavery in another name with indentured labour, where the plight of the labourers was no better than that of the slaves. Britain maintained concentration camps in the Boer War where tens of thousands of men, women and children perished (google 'Boer war concentration camp'). Britain committed genocide in the 1950s in Kenya (google 'Caroline Elkins Imperial Reckoning'). In addition to committing slavery and genocide in Africa, Britain looted the resources of several African countries and stole away countless valuable artefacts, artefacts which the British Museum shamelessly continues to possess (search 'John Oliver Museums' on TH-cam).
During their rule in India, Britain siphoned off 45 trillions dollars in today's money (watch the VICE video on it). Hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of Indian rebels were tortured and murdered in the aftermath of the 1857 war of independence (entire rebel towns were 'cleansed'). Tens of millions of Indians starved to death during the dozens of famines as the inhumane British rulers looked away (google 'late Victorian Holocausts'). In modern day Sri Lanka, in the aftermath of the Uva rebellion, the entire male population was put to death (google 'Uva rebellion'). The Bengal Famine of 1943 was genocide committed by a genocidal racist bastard called Winston Churchill (google 'Madhushree Mukherjee Churchill's Secret War'). The British murdered countless innocent civilians in massacres like Jallianwala Bagh massacre, Qissa Khwani Bazaar massacre, Pathorughat Massacre (google them all; these are the ones we know of, imagine the countless massacres Britain destroyed all records of). British forces murdered tens of thousands of Indians during the Quit India movement. In China, Britain fought the Opium Wars. Britain also used 'divide and rule' to turn different groups against each other. Btw, all the railways, ports, infrastructure Britain built in India were to help them transport the resources it stole.
Britain committed genocide in North America (google 'small pox infected blanket'). Also, google 'British genocide america'.
Britain committed genocide in Oceania (google 'British genocide in Australia').
If you thought that was all in the distant past, think of the Iraq War in 2003 twenty years ago where the UK illegally invaded and killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. Also think of the bombing of Libya by British warplanes, the funding of Al Nusra by Britain (google 'Britain Al Nusra'). Britain also armed Saudi Arabia with bomber jets and munitions to bomb the poorest Arab country Yemen.
Britain is a shameless, genocidal, warmongering nation that continues to deny, deflect and obfuscate it's countless crimes against humanity (google 'Operation Legacy'; THAT'S HOW SHAMELESS THE BRITISH ARE!!!).

This never gets old. Until Britain officially apologizes for the mess that it created on literally all the continents, Dr. Tharoor's this speech will remain relevant. If Germany can own upto and show deep remorse for the holocaust, Britain can surely apologize to the world.

    • @NoName-bm7xg
      @NoName-bm7xg 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

@dylan murphy wow. Really cute. How old are you...
Anyway, if you have noticed, the world has moved beyond the holocaust simply because Germany apologized. Similarly, if you want the conversation to change, Britain will have to own upto colonialism. Otherwise everytime the pain of poverty, racism and partition is felt, your ancestors will be remembered.
Oh and You abolished slavery, is it? You started it! And when it no longer served your purpose, you merely supported the idea of discarding it. The nerve you have to even broach the topic!
For you, your history is something that happened in the past. For us, our history is something we live everyday. So you see, we can't forget even if we choose to.
Here's a little exercise for you. pick any on going, chronic dispute in the world. Chances are, the British would have had a hand in it. That's the legacy of your ancestors..loot, chaos and destruction.

@@NoName-bm7xg Britain has hardly of its own to start. Who on earth gave you the right to your trade on someone's land and that too without paying taxes and destructing the country claiming that it was already in a mess? If you were really great by yourself you wouldn't have to say to yourself ''Great Britain'', it is what you want others to call you, no one appreciates you for that. We always had a great History beyond and before the British Rule which you are not aware of to judge and we admire it and live today even with it. Interfering was just your business, we conquered through real wars and most of the rulers were quite open-minded to help other people of religion. Whosoever country it maybe or had their problems, it does not mean you have the right to conquer the land. Britain benefited the most from India for decades for you to say that you still live with your history and that is the fact no one can change.

Over 2 million rupees were paid in compensation in 1921-22 to those wounded and to the relatives of those killed. According to one source the latter received an average of Rs 8,700. In 1939 the average annual wage for an Indian worker in industry was little more than Rs 288. So Rs 8,700 would be equivalent to over 30 years of wage earning.
These kind of incidents still happen in India such as the Sopore massacre in Kashmir on 6 January 1993 when 55 Kashmiri students were killed by Security forces who fired on a procession; and 'the Gawkadal massacre in Srinagar, Kashmir... on 21 January 1990, the Indian paramilitary troops of the Central Reserve Police Force opened fire on a group of Kashmiri protesters in what has been described by some authors as "the worst massacre in Kashmiri history".'...over 250 were killed.

I'm (re)watching this video as the culmination to a weekend, some of which was spent reading Dr Tharoor's book "Inglorious Empire".
In that book, he barely makes any reference to England's "only White colony", as Dr Tharoor correctly calls my own country, Ireland.
Yet in horror after horror, incident after incident, law after law, Dr Tharoor describes happening both under the Raj and under the preceding Company, I could quite easily see Irish parallels. We Irish were the Prototype, India was the culmination of the Rapacity and Brutality of the British Empire.
That so many Modern English scholars, historians, journalists and politicians (of all parties) describe the British Empire as "Fundamentally Benevolent" shows me just how unrepentant Modern Britain is.
    A final, somewhat triumphant, afterword.
In the decades since divesting itself of "Imperial Benevolence", the UK's GDP has fallen decade on decade. It's not just Brexit has Britain as the Economic Basket case of the Developed World. The UK has never adjusted to the fact that it no longer has access to virtually free Raw Materials and income Stolen from those who had no choice in the matter. Increasing numbers of Britons are dependant on the Private generosity implied by Food Banks.
My sympathy for those so dependant is lessened when I remember that those were the very people who Gloried in the depredations committed by their Inglorious Empire.
Unfortunately, those so dependant on the Food Banks are not the descendants of those who most benefitted from that Empire...
