Shows how little we've progressed, if at all, when this sixty year old gear can more than hold it's own in terms of sound quality against most of today's audiophile components; the ESL 57's in particular.

To be honest what would you really want or need . And to think the owner had this back in the 1960s , I’ve spent a life time chasing the hifi dragon . Not on a unlimited budget I hasten to add but I must have definitely parted with no small amount of cash . So seeing and hearing this does make me wonder if I could have saved myself a lot bother not to mention money . 😂👍👍👍

The ESL’s are easily the sweetest sounding speakers I’ve heard since I bought my first decent HiFi in 1984. Not a lot of bass but you don’t care when you hear music through them. I have to have good bass in my system but I’m forever pining to get a pair of these just for the mid range🎵🎶😎

Thanks for sharing that, the original owner certainly took great care of everything, must have been his pride and joy.

For anyone who thinks there are any major leaps forward in audio reproduction in the home, just watch this video.
Looks and sounds incredible. And it’s 62 years old.

That is so so true. In fact this 62 yr old system can even show a modern system a clean pair of heels in certain aspects of audio reproduction.

Managed to borrow my audio-buddy's Quad II back in 1995 and after that experience, I always wondered why Quad never ever managed to manufacture a solid-state amp that sounds as good. 🤔

Une belle installation audio qui me rappelle des souvenirs de ma jeunesse 😊

The old Quad gear still stands up to scrutiny. New Hi fi is now very pricey with increases across the board of 50% in the past 2 years alone. This makes 2nd hand Hi fi a better buy. Amplifiers are no better than what they used to be.

I enjoyed this video...I have a pair of 57's and Quad II's. It is bliss. I also have the Quad 303 and now a Radford STA25 that also sound pretty special. The pre amp is a McIntosh 4100 receiver. I have reached my musical nirvana!!

So great to have a chance to “hear” this system. Rumor has it that G.A Briggs saw the ESL 57 as a shot across the bow of the speaker industry that was still using conventional drivers. His response was the Wharfedale SFB Open Baffle.
Electrostatics still hold their own, Maggie’s and the like but Open Baffles are likely here to stay. Thanks Gilbert.

Lexington 365 I agree with your comment . My speakers Lowther are 50 years old and valve amp 30 years old. |Still sound great and I think hold there own with a lot of modern systems.

I used to repair the Quad ii beautiful hand built equipment sound is fantastic from the electrostatic loudspeakers sound stage is beautiful, quad last 100 years all through generations if you look after them, capacitors in the Quad ii power amps need replacing & the screen grid resistors, thats the usual, KT66 in design a little too close to the transformers but being picky, Quad are great units

Nice set up. Unfortunately, the sound I'm hearing is obviously only as good as my sound card and speakers (which are £10 plastic jobies from Tesco).

It looks like a lot of smoke coming out of the back of that. I'd call mastercare if I were you?

Those moblocks are so good for such bad pream. I have the same, and the improvement in sound is amazing when you use a modern pream. You are loosing a lot of sound using that bad preamp.

    • @scrumpymanjack
      @scrumpymanjack 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

What sort of pre-amp would you pair with the quad monoblocks and ESL-57s?
