Title:
Improving maternal health with data-driven digital care systems
Abstract:
The United States is in the midst of a worsening maternal health crisis with the rate of pregnancy-related hypertension nearly doubling over the past decade, over one third of US counties classified as maternity care deserts, and a nearly three times higher rate of pregnancy-related death among Black women. At the backdrop of these numbers is the fact that nearly 85% of pregnancy-related deaths are preventable. We are left with the question: how can we improve the delivery of pregnancy care to prevent complications and subsequent adverse outcomes?
In this seminar, I will describe how data-driven digital care systems can close existing gaps in pregnancy care by enabling earlier intervention and monitoring. Specifically, I will detail how our Delfina team leverages data to: design data visualizations to improve remote patient monitoring, deploy predictive algorithms to enable personalized interventions, and implement quasi-experimental designs to optimize patient care experiences and outcomes.
