Really intersested in this shows treatment as these Kids as actual kids, and that goes extra for this episode taking such a firm stance against Child Soldiers. It almost seems like a direct take that against all the other parts of the franchise that have had kids training to be child soldiers like:
    The Prequels
    The Clone Wars
    Rebels
    The Bad Batch
Seriously, turning kids into Child Soldiers is something that Star Wars does ALOT. At least Luke was 18+. Skeleton Crew is refusing to do that. Whenever some-one puts a Blaster into one of these kids hands, something bad happens. I think the show deserves a lot of props for that.

There was a good '80s film called _Cloak & Dagger_ starring Henry Thomas of _E.T._ fame. Davey is put in a position where his fantasies about Jack Flak, a spy from his RPG, come real. Then he's faced with an adult spy/henchman about to shoot him dead, even though the adult believes he's holding a water pistol. His imagination tricks the guy into shooting the wall where his imaginary friend is and Davey into shooting the spy dead. After which he doesn't want to play with him anymore. But he still has to go rescue Kim who has a bomb in her walkie.
But my feeling about the Star Wars universe is that it harkens back to the time when adolescents were trained as apprentices. I thought the small lady pilot or navigator was one at the start of _The Phantom Menace._ These 4 kids lead a sheltered life with perhaps an extended adolescence like in America.

In a way The Mandalorian started as Jon Favreau "this is what Boba Fett should have been". This episode feels like Jon Watts saying "this is what the many child soldiers in Star Wars are like from a sane perspective".
Not to say they mean to disrespect George Lucas, they're just doing their own take.

    • @HDimagination
      @HDimagination หลายเดือนก่อน

@@BonJoviBeatlesLedZep I mean, Fair play to George, when he made one of the protaganists of TPM a child, he also made the main enemies of the movie droids. Same with Clone Wars. He did put some thought in how it would look if his young protaganists were slaughtering living beings with glee. Issues with the way Star Wars treats droids inconsistantly aside, it shows that he was at least aware of the potential optics.

@@sandal_thong That film sounds very interesting, I've not heard of that one before.
One of the things that is prominant in the 'Kids on bikes' genre of movies from the 80s is that many of them were very non-violent, such as Goonies and Explorers. I think that the tone that this show is taking with regards to violence is very interesting. It's the threat. When 33 starts to threaten to tear the kids Limb from Limb it turns into a horror movie, not a fun action scene.
I think in terms of apprentices there are three organisations that we see recruiting children: The Madolorians from the titular show, The Jedi order and the Galactic Empire. We don't see much of how children are treated in the wider universe, but I don't think any of those groups are things we should be thinking of as doing a good thing by helping the kids grow up quicker.
The fact that we're able to have these debates about the show and it's themes, when it is a show that was being pitched as a fun adventure for kids is *chef's kiss* though. I haven't enjoyed a Star Wars show this much with the exeption of Andor.

I was actually struck by this in the other episode where the kids got put into the fighting stations of the starship! It's a clear parallel to the scene with Luke in the Millenium Falcon and I did really thing: You're making CHILDREN shoot at actual people! I mean, I get why it happened, and they were mostly running away, but it was still a thing. I was much happier with how they handled it this episode.

There was but just to let you know. This episode alot about At Attin, why it was hidden and when it was hidden. The weird part is the story of At Acchran's destruction was already told. It was destroyed during operation cinder. There is evidence that was the case. 1st evidence, when they were approaching the planet, there were the satelites orbiting the planet. These were the same aatelites that was used to carry out operation cinder. That entire story line was explained in star wars battlefront 2 Iden Versio's chapter 2 story arch. Iden Versio was the daughter of grand admiral Versio, the last remaining grand amiral after the emperor died. He was ordered by the emperor to carry out operation cinder in the event he died. It was done to promote fear in the remaining planets that the empire controlled. Operation cinder happened shortly before the last major battle of the war over the skies of Jakku. Now this gets to another character, Bill Burr's character. He explained of the horrors of operation cinder during the episode him and mando infiltrated the imperial base. He ended up killing the commander due to his trauma of operation cinder. Now tje 2nd evidence that the empire was there is due to the tank trooper helmets that the troik were using. So we know when and why At Attin was purposely hidden. SM-33 was definitely ordered to hide the planet from Palpatine.

5:00 the raiders have a tank/troop transport that looks from off world. Most probably, they are pirates who found this world and are trying to take the treasure that's supposedly in there

Enjoyed this episode, I like the kids being confronted with a mirror version of their world. My Current theory is that referencing "The Great Work" links At Attin to the High Republic, since the last time I heard of a Great Work was Starlight Beacon. There is no treasure, but there is a generational task being worked on that no one knows to stop since the barrier keeps them hidden.

    • @sandal_thong

Or it's just busywork. I like the idea that people were saying the planets were social experiments. They had that in _Lost,_ with a fake one being to monitor people in the hatch while the real project was to keep pushing the button to have "fate" or the island's power bring the numbered people to the island, though they didn't know that. And no one told them they could now turn it off by turning the key.

SM-33's "babysitting sequence" was hilarious. I wish we'd gotten a bit more of that, like just one more little exchange in that dynamic at the start of the next 33 and Jod scene would have been perfect for me.
I wonder if the explanation of At Achran being a war-torn hellscape could have something to do with SM-33 saying something about being there scrambles his circuits, like the planet Miranda from Serenity. I think the reveal at the end probably put a nail in that theory's coffin, but I thought there was something there until the ending.
Re: Why did Jod buy the eopies? He did say that he had known that the kids were with the Troik and that the eopies belonged to the Troik. I'm hoping that's a suspicious "How did he know that? Is he bullshitting everyone?" thing and not a plot hole, but I guess we'll see.
Don't forget the most famous droid on/off button: the one in a Pit Droid's nose.

There's a rule: "Show, don't tell." He might have killed all the fighters in the other tribe and taken the animals! Maybe we'll find out when we resolve this kind-seeming guy with the Crimson Jack character who likely attacked the Republic ship killing all those people for nothing.
The kids should have solved the problem using conflict resolution they should have learned in school for everyone on their planet getting along. So far their schooling doesn't seem to help them in the wider galaxy.

I was actually left wondering whether the droids are in charge. Even the mother who came to the school and seems to be somewhat important doesn't seem to be able to force the droids to contact the republic (which doesn't exist anymore, and they don't even know). And the Dad of the main boy might acutally be forced to work more than he acutally want to.
(I'm also wondering whether the "treasure" At Attin is famous for is some kind of money specualtion business or something, which they need the analysts for.)

My theory is that At Achran was destroyed during operation Cinder or some earlier thing involving the empire. The sattelite we see at the start of the episode is similar to the satelites used in that, and both sides of the conflict were using armor and gear from the rebel alliance and the empire, with many of them using helmets taken straight out of the imperial army.

The three tentpole Dave Faloni Star Wars series “Mandalorian, Asoka, and Skeleton Crew” feel like some of the best Star Wars has been under Disney which makes me feel sad that the bad taste of the sequels has soured many people’s interest in them aside from Mando. Like their clearly not perfect but I feel like their building up to something bigger and more thoughtfully made than the sequel trilogy was but getting so much less attention and I feel that could negatively affect their output going forward if people are showing less interest in them.

This episode explained when At Attin was hidden. It was during the fall of the Republic and the Empire took over. At Acchran was occupied by the Empire and destroyed by the Empire via Operation Cinder. This episode added so much story in a subtle way.

    • @Colombiarican31

Just to add, what confirms that the Empire controlled this planet is due to the following: you can see thr tank troopers and some of the storm trooper helmets that is used by the Troik. And also the satelites used to destroy many of the Empire controlled worlds that you see in the At Acchran orbit shot. Operation Cinder was acted out by the Empire at the end of the Galatic Civil War before the battle of Jakku. This is the entire story line of Iden Version 2nd chapter in Star Wars Battlefront 2

Like you said, I wish we could’ve gotten more interactions between the kids and Jude Law, they play off of each other well. Also this had some of the clunkiest graphics of the series, I’m particularly thinking about the scenes between Neal and the girl on the roof. Lastly I don’t get why no one thought to go to one of the other planets, sneak into their supervisor’s tower and get the coordinates. Simple.

This show has a similar problem and unfortunately it appears nothing has changed over the years. While I can tell that the show is well-made by people who care and is objectively above average in quality across the board, I just can't personally get into it for reasons that I struggle to articulate. I'm forced to conclude that I just hate 80's nostalgia in general and children in particular. If I was watching this alone, I definitely would have already dropped it to spend my free time doing something more enjoyable, but hanging out with friends who are having a good time makes it worthwhile for me to continue, even if i have to grit my teeth to keep from audibly sighing in frustration and rolling my eyes.

@@barryeldar687 while it isn't the same exact thing I get very similar reactions often with different kinds of media where it's just a physical I can't watch this out of some form of cringe and I can't tell why and this show has been triggering that to some degree
