Regarding those imperial helmets: I think there was a mention somewhere in the episode about "arms dealers" coming to the planet from time to time, so I guess that's where they got them from
I think that there are two ways in which they could have gotten the helmets, either someone else found them at an imperial base and then traded them, or the empire might have sent troops there at one point
The Huttan clan uses Republic PDF gear. I think the planets tried to stay isolated during the rise of the Empire, but the Empire found them anyway and wrecked the planet and now the last survivors are fighting over scraps
Robert Louis Stephenson's Treasure Island which the Disney film was based on, is basically the godfather of all pirate fiction stories; so the resemblance is probably not an accident considering the references to Peter Pan in Skeleton Crew as well. Just need a Jack Sparrow character to roundoff the pirate story references. 😂
Just watched _Treasure Planet_ after _Skeleton Crew_ came out. It didn't do much for me. One critic said the lead was too old; more an adult than a kid.
Yeah, I did, too! I’ve been calling Fern’s interaction with her maid droid “Chekhov’s memory override” since my second rewatch of that episode. Was psyched to see that, for once, I was actually right!
Those Old Republic planets start to feel like Vault-Tec's shelters from Fallout, I will not be surprised if we see another planet with different settings (or experiments), we have a supervised/protected world and a world at war for now. I get that the jewels were said to be "destroyed" except for At Attin but the war between two clans felt like it was forever like this.
Or the coordinates for the other jewels got compromised and that those planets got attacked by raiders and slavers. Then the loss of resources made the remaining settlers go against each other.
@Bionickpunk But still, the planet being attacked doesn’t justify the state of permanent clan war, the inhabitants have access to offworld ressources (as stated in the episode they bargain for munitions) so they could have easily fled their planet a long time ago since the destruction of their version of the Barrier or bought passage with those who are bargaining with them or bargained for food and other essential ressources (resolving the conflict). Instead of that they prefer engage in some kind of wargame (the weapons used, the “flag" line, all of the setting seems off) and bargain their few ressource to continue a fight with seemingly no start or end
Perhaps they can be a defense system and a weapon at he same time. Like a fail-safe system in case the planet gets uncovered. The other planets were compromised and therefore destroyed. Somehow the old captain of the Onyx Cinder found a way around to infiltrate the system but ultimatively found his demise. Or it ist just a red hering
I get the feeling that SM-33’s previous captain is either a character we have met on At Attin or is the supervisor. The kids found the ship on At Attin hidden with no captain on board and a droid who had been commanded to forget everything. Now we also learn the previous captain went to great lengths to hide At Attins whereabouts from others.
I think all the planets in that room are all similar, part of some experiment, each with a different variable. At Atin might be a utopia, while this planet was dystopian.
@@amaranthpaean indeed, i think its actually closer to a dystopia because of all the vehicles on rails, no one being allowed to venture off course into the forest, and having pre-determined lives.

I believe that the mention about the auto pilot is just to set the fact that the ship and her crew were there before, probably causing the destruction we see. It makes me want to know what stopped the pirates to do the same in At Attin, so many interesting possibilities!
I love this show so far. The mystery regarding the At-planets is just at the right level for this type of show, the kids are doing a good job, and Jod is an interesting character for this type of show. 9/10 so far for me.
The biggest reason why I love Kneele so much is because the way he’s written is exactly how you’d wish every kid would be like. I’ll admit the first 5-10 minutes of the show leading up to when we see this new group of people had me worried but then when Kneele starts getting more focus and it gets us to those reveals at the end of the episode I was locked in.
I vote they separate SM-33's head from the rest of him so he can't - ahem - tear 'em apart limb from limb, and just carry him around like Murray The Demonic Skull from Monkey Island.
I also thought that Neel died. It's because his fainting was delayed until after his friends assembled around him. They were cheering him on for saving their lives, and then Neel fainted, as opposed to fainting immediately after SM-33 fell on him -- which would have made more sense. By contrast, the chunky dude in _Road House_ fainted the moment that the stuffed polar bear fell on him in his boss's trophy room. That's what I would have expected Neel to do when SM-33 fell on him, but the writers had something different in mind.
Didn't expect amention of the Great Divide episode in this, but yeah major vibes from that. They say in the episode that they have been trading with off-worlders fora while trading their hides for things like ammunion so the imperial gear is probably old surplus some cunning trader has managed to peddle to them for an inflated price. The At Atan barrier is probably non fuctioning now so the planet can be located by outsiders. I guess the next step is visiting the other planets who they do have the coordinates for in hopes that their supervisor office is still intact?
This is one that made me nod in remembrance when they said "the kids will be in real danger" they get enlisted in a army type group during episode 4 and get literally told if they become deserters and run they will be shot down. Then at the end the droid turns on them due to unforeseen consequences of one part desperation and one part curiosity. And I loved my Ma's reactions for Neel as usual, but more so this time as he had more to do in this episode and shined.
Fun thing I noticed: Heina's weapon has a Dalek gunstick from Doctor Who at the end, much like the blaster seen in episode 1 of the Mandalorian, but this time it's just the standard gunstick.
Jod really reminds me of the Tenth Doctor. The body language, the facial expressions, the accent. The Tenth Doctor always had that swashbuckling energy that the other Doctor Who 2005 Doctors didn't have.
My best guess is that they'll go to one of the other lost planets (they have the coordinates for them) to try and see if these planets also have a watch tower with coordinates (and non-destroyed At Attin coordinates)
At first I thought that the planet was protected and hidden because it had a different time line and they had arrived back on At Attin many years in the future (almost like the water planet in Interstellar)....would have been devastating for the kids but kind of intereresting
There's something about Jod that reminds me of young Han Solo, maybe it's the arrogance but I love it. And Jude Law's performance has also been solid in this role.
When relating this show to the Goonies after the first two episodes, I said that Neel kind of struck me as the "Chunk" character, and now he invited a found friend to come live at his house, just like Chunk did.
The planet in this episode reminded me of the post-apocalyptic 2029 Los Angeles in _The Terminator_ movies. SM-33 turning against the kids further added to the Terminator feel of this episode.
Really liked this episode going into the themes and ethics of war since that's I think we don't see much more anymore in a franchise literally called Star WARS. Seeing it through a childs perspective also was a nice change.
I thought about it more and I'm definitely feeling a lot of parallels to Fallout. The neighborhoods looked so similar. The 9 planets = vaults. The supervisors = overseers, the great work = vault social experiments. In Fallout 4 some of the plot revolved around raiders breaking in and interfering with things. I'm starting to think maybe this second hidden planet had a Militaristic themed great work. And when things broke down they devolved into fighting factions. Maybe the schools focused on things like military cadet training and that ended up influencing their current state. Would be cool if other planets devolved or ended up reflecting the Great Work's theme as well.
This was my favorite episode, so far, too. I agree about the satellites in the barrier. I'm impressed whenever a child can realistically cry on camera. I'm ever more interested in the At Attin mystery, now. The "At" planets were built with layouts similar to each other but the 2 we've seen so far have vastly different societies even if the species are the same. Watching Neel in the foreground or background is delightful. The statues with coordinates reminds me of a Metroid game or something. The buildings in one place being intact and another place being in ruin reminds me of A Link to the Past.
See, I wasn't as in love with this episode. It really only felt like half a story, and then they introduce a new part of the plot. I feel like we're not even close to being done with this planet, and there's still all this other stuff to do with SM-33, but I was really expecting a bit more conflict between the two factions on the planet. I imagine we'll still get that, there's this whole thing with the Eopies that I'm suspicious about, that big canon has to come into play somehow, or maybe that's forshadowing something on At Attin that only Neel's going to know about that most everyone else won't, but this episode just left me wanting more. I loved everything in the episode, just not the structure of it all.
Yeah, definitely could have used an extra minute or two to wrap, but just another example of an episode ending that feels like it was a cut of a longer movie.
@@podracer35 That's the weird thing about this show. It's not really a movie that's been stretched out, there's just too much in it, and it doesn't feel like padding, it's serialized, but not really, and it's certainly not episodic. It's like they keep cutting episodes in half, and halfway through the runtime, they start another episode.
I’m kinda the opposite in that I really liked the first 3 episodes and found this to be the weakest. It just felt like a needless diversion and something to pad out the story. I did enjoy some of the character moments, especially the one between Wim and Fern and the stuff in the tower was good. It’s just all the stuff with the two tribes at war and the kid warriors, that felt very small and like an episode of Doctor Who or something. It was one of those weird, out of nowhere, endings as well. I didn’t hate it but it wasn’t my favourite.
Could they go to another Jewel of the Old Republic planet to find the coordinates to At Atin from another supervisor’s tower that SM-33 never visited or damaged?
SM-33 cannot be trusted until he is re-wired by a droid-smith. That's for sure. For the time being, he really should be disassembled. Forget about turning him back on, and hoping that he will behave himself. He's gone back to his original captain's programming, and he's extremely dangerous.
Seeing as the captain didn't want anyone to know the coordinates to At Attin and the ship and the robot ended up there, it would be logical that the captain is on At Attin, maybe even alive to this day. Maybe it's one of the parents?
Also, there is no one from Neel's species on At Achrin, because that family was brought to At Attin by the captain - Neel's father/mother/grandparent is the captain.
The moment when Fern was overriding SM-33's locked memory and he began to say that his captain had warned him that if anyone tried to get the coordinates took me back to Biff talking to Marty and mentioning what Old Biff warned him about. I truly expected to get a "What's that?" moment! And Neel must be protected at all costs!!!!!
Great review as always, Alex! 👍👍 Yeah, a great episode with some interesting tid bits and like you mentioned character developments. And Neel, what else can you say about the little guy? What makes him a badass is his kindness and compassion in spite of what's happening around him and his friends. Loving Neel more and more. And don't worry about reviewing the next two episodes late. You and Molly enjoy your Holidays. You both deserve it. May The Force Be With You, Both. ☺️🎄🎁☃️❄️
I had absolutely zero expectations heading into this show, but I've been enjoying it so much. It's just like ... a fun adventure in a way we don't often get on TV anymore.
I’m feeling like I missed something on last nights episode. I agree with Alex on the story beats and the mystery of the planets, but feel it was done in such a kludgy manner that it really took me out of the story and left me disappointed. Happy to see that it seems so many others enjoyed it!
I enjoyed the episode, but with only four episodes left I hope they're able to stick the landing this time. I'm also hoping we get more development for KB and what exactly her medical problems are, since they were mentioned by the parents an episode or two ago, but KB herself hasn't mentioned it at all.
@@Scorch1028 Exactly! But, being that this show is inspired by those '80s coming of age movies, the parents will probably just be in the background for the rest of the season.
I agree. I found the whole thing to be a big step down from the previous episode and tracking with what I was worried the show might be before Ep.2 and 3.
The opening also made me believe they were back home. Thought the auto-landing lock feature was because ships weren't allowed there so I definitely thought they were about to be summoned to the Supervisor. Love how this show keeps you guessing.
The first time he said "Can't say I remember no At-Attin" in this episode, I realized that something was up. No one was talking to him, yet he still said that. And that's when I realized it. So when they realized it after the like 3rd or 4th time, I was happy to see I was right
The more I watch this adorable series, the more I have to think about its parallels to Treasure Island or rather its Treasure Planet reinterpretation. This episode was actually more on the Peter Pan side of things when the kids get stranded and encounter the lost kids? Also the mystery around what really happened with Jod Da? I wouldn’t be surprised if the Hattan are in a way related to his pirate buddies and he convinced them with the old republic credits to support his quest for the treasure.
just an overarching opinion to add to something you said... I too take a while to take a liking to the details in these types of series. One of the deficiencies is the single digit number of episodes in a season. if there were more (as the Clone Wars series) episodes, I believe the bond I develop with the characters and commitment to the series would definitely run deeper. I also agree this is a VERY VERY good series and find myself hooked to it.
What if all those nine worlds were meant to be show-case worlds for future colonisation, including built-in standardised planetary defences, of the Outer Rim worlds during the High Republic era? But during the High Republic events involving the Nhile pirates, which caused part of Republic space to be cut off under the pirates' control, the eight worlds destroyed were caught in those events and At-Attin's location was lost and forgotten due to the chaos which ended the High Republic era.

While not deviating, and even conforming to Star Wars' visual "bible". For some reason it was a little weird seeing an American M1 helmet from WW2 with no greebles. It caught me off guard for some reason. I'm not suggesting that's a bad thing at all, just stood out to me.
The camera work when SM-33 was repeating "Limb from limb" was quite unsettling in a good way

I'm calling it. The little worm guy in his head is the old captain.
@@MCLegoboy ah, you're right. Longer episode, not movie haha there is definitely something off there
I’m kinda the opposite in that I really liked the first 3 episodes and found this to be the weakest.
I'm wondering if the mysterious supervisor is SM-33's original captain🤔
The Captain is Wim's dad, who we'll find out is really Willrow Hood
The moment when Fern was overriding SM-33's locked memory and he began to say that his captain had warned him that if anyone tried to get the coordinates took me back to Biff talking to Marty and mentioning what Old Biff warned him about. I truly expected to get a "What's that?" moment! And Neel must be protected at all costs!!!!!
I wouldn't trust SM-33 unless he was re-programmed by one of those droid-smiths that we saw in _The Rise Of Skywalker_ and _The Book of Boba Fett_ .
Glad you're starting to dig the series. Happy Holidays!
They’ll just go to one of the other planets and look at the coordinates in the corresponding Supervisor’s tower.
i thought it was weird that fern was getting so little this episode until the end payoff. what a delightful performance it hit hard.
Great review as always, Alex! 👍👍
Yeah, a great episode with some interesting tid bits and like you mentioned character developments.
I was surprised to see Mathieu Kassovitz in a Star Wars project ! He's a very famous french actor and director. He had a cameo in The 5th Element ;)
I’m feeling like I missed something on last nights episode. I agree with Alex on the story beats and the mystery of the planets, but feel it was done in such a kludgy manner that it really took me out of the story and left me disappointed. Happy to see that it seems so many others enjoyed it!
I think they will go to another planet that has the coordinates in that room to see if there is a simliar tower.
I enjoyed the episode, but with only four episodes left I hope they're able to stick the landing this time. I'm also hoping we get more development for KB and what exactly her medical problems are, since they were mentioned by the parents an episode or two ago, but KB herself hasn't mentioned it at all.
I was hoping to see the kids' parents again. They're worried sick. They probably haven't slept in days.
@@Scorch1028 Exactly! But, being that this show is inspired by those '80s coming of age movies, the parents will probably just be in the background for the rest of the season.
The mystery of At Attin is really getting me invested
My review was very different this week. This was the first episode of the series that I didn't really enjoy. Just thought it was ok
I agree. I found the whole thing to be a big step down from the previous episode and tracking with what I was worried the show might be before Ep.2 and 3.
The old captain sounds a lot like captain flint
The Daniels directed that episode - is worth a mention ❤
The opening also made me believe they were back home. Thought the auto-landing lock feature was because ships weren't allowed there so I definitely thought they were about to be summoned to the Supervisor. Love how this show keeps you guessing.
So the Captain is gonna be the Supervisor maybe? Stole the role from someone and is living the high life?
The first time he said "Can't say I remember no At-Attin" in this episode, I realized that something was up. No one was talking to him, yet he still said that. And that's when I realized it. So when they realized it after the like 3rd or 4th time, I was happy to see I was right
Y'know I said before that At Attin is like Space Vancouver or Seattle but At Achrann is really looking like Space Toronto 😂
Im a big defendant of kids in media, from Anakin to X23, but i cant wait for Whim to get some Character development, consequences from his actions
got Fallout vibes from this episode
seems to,me that they have the coordinants of the other "jewels" why not go to one of them and see if there is a tower there with at atins coordinants
There’s a statue of Neel’s species on At Attin, so it’s interesting how this statue is missing the head
The Huttan clan uses Republic PDF gear.
Did anyone notice his little trunk shaking when he got scared?
What if all those nine worlds were meant to be show-case worlds for future colonisation, including built-in standardised planetary defences, of the Outer Rim worlds during the High Republic era?
But during the High Republic events involving the Nhile pirates, which caused part of Republic space to be cut off under the pirates' control, the eight worlds destroyed were caught in those events and At-Attin's location was lost and forgotten due to the chaos which ended the High Republic era.
This episode reminded me about how Baldur is invulnerable to all threats, physical or magical.
Wierd.
"Can't say. I remember no At Attin."
Can't say I rememember no "Skeleton Crew - Can't Say I Remember No At Attin Review"
First and i loved the episode.Did everyone, notice the eupie? I hsve theorized that its tatoonie. And the satalties , probably wrere used , to contact star light beakon. But maybe used , for operation cinder
SM33 is now fully a cross between Cpn. Long John Silver and Cpn. Yellowbeard! SM33 is 100% pirate! Maybe more!
In Neel we trust!
Great review Alex!
This was my least favorite episode but I still enjoyed it. The last 10 minutes were some of my favorite scenes from the show though!
To be fair, in that Avatar The Last Airbender episode, we don't know that it was something inconsequential. Aang just made a story up because no one remembered the root of the conflict - for all we know it might've been consequential at one point in the distant past.
Instantly thought of that Avatar episode.
Damn, I wanted it to be a planet out of place and time. Like that should've been At Attin but 100 years later
While not deviating, and even conforming to Star Wars' visual "bible". For some reason it was a little weird seeing an American M1 helmet from WW2 with no greebles. It caught me off guard for some reason. I'm not suggesting that's a bad thing at all, just stood out to me.
