    What i really wonna see is 16" M1 PRO vs M1 max 24 GPU - battery life and all test comparison.
    Because M1 MAX 32 GPU already doesn't do that difference in power but in battery life less efficient.

    • @halfalligator6518
      @halfalligator6518 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I couldn't decide for ages and ended up with the 14". I was actually pleasantly surprised by how decent the size still is when viewed in person (i'm coming from the M1 Air). The youtube reviews don't give the screen justice imo. It's not huge... but it doesn't feel cramped either. I've owned 16" macbooks before and they're pretty cumbersome to take out, or even use around the house. I also don't like attention and i feel a big 16" is just asking for eyeballs. Depends on your needs of course.... i use an external monitor for most of my work. 14" speakers sound amazing to me.
      I don't think you'll regret getting the 14". Only reason i'd get the 16" is if i'd spend a lot of time doing pro work without an external monitor. i.e it would make a great fully mobile complete workstation for graphic designers/musicians etc. Seeing as I only work away from my monitor about 20% of the time - I choose portability.

    • @andreyprilutskiy5591
      @andreyprilutskiy5591 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had been struggling with 14 vs 16 for quite some time. I wanted to go with 16 inch, but when I went to the apple store and compared them in real life, the 16 inch was just so huge and heavy. TH-cam videos don't do them justice. It really depends on what you are planning to do of course. For me personally, portability is important so I decided to go with 14 inch. I figured I can get an external display or two if I really need a larger screen at home.
      Now I'm struggling with M1pro vs M1max. The price difference between the two configurations I'm looking into is just $200 (M1pro 10/16 cores 32gb 1tb vs M1max 10/24 cores 32gb 1tb). The problem with all the reviews out there is that they compare them under heavy loads and there is no light usage battery life comparison. I can't decide how bad the battery life drop is on Max vs Pro. If the difference is about 6% like in this video, I may just go with the 24c Max to have that extra power when/if I need it.

    One huge question : what was the duration of these tests? 1 hour? 5 hours? 2 hours?
    Every review is always emitting important information regarding battery life...
    46% after 1 hour is horrible
    46% after 3 hours would be amazing...

    • @CreatedTech
      @CreatedTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The reason it's not mentioned is because it's a very inaccurate way of measuring the battery life. During these videos, the MacBooks are often left sitting idle for 30+ mins several times while you mess around with cameras or wait for something to download. Sometimes even shut down overnight if you can't get the video done in one day. It's not benchmarking or rendering for example 100% of the time. Besides, the aim of this video is to see how the battery life differs between models, not how long the battery life is overall. That's what a review is for.
      That being said, this video took roughly 3 hours to complete before I compared the battery between the two.

    • @DJ-Coma
      @DJ-Coma 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CreatedTech thanks for the explanation. Would love to see a strictly battery test video where you do something like play a 3 hour TH-cam video straight through on full brightness and see where the batteries are at when it’s done. Beyond comparing the MBP models against each other, it would also be interesting if you ran the same test multiple times using a different web browser each time to give us an idea of if the browser choice has a significant effect on the battery.
      Throw the MacBook Air M1 in the battery tests too.

    • @AnotherGameDev2411
      @AnotherGameDev2411 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CreatedTech i respectfuly disagree - the amount of battery drained during tests is irelevant unless the length of the tests is taken into account - because, again, if you burn through 50% of your battery in 1 hours - that's horrible. screen on time is important because it gives you a better estimate of what the machine is capable of - so if for example you claim these tests took around 3 hours - and you were left with 45%~ average battery, that means the device can hold off for at least 6 hours of medium to intensive work loads and that's IMPORTANT - if for instant the whole test took only 1 hour to complete - that would mean you can expect only 2 hours of heave work load and that's BAD - so forgive me by telling you this - battery difference does not mean ANYTHING unless you take into count the duration that the battery can last

    • @CreatedTech
      @CreatedTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @Liad Goren You're not understanding - the entire point of this video is to compare both machines against each other while both are being used in the exact same way, for the same length of time. Actual time spent testing the laptops is irrelevant - as battery percentage difference between the two is all we're interested in. It doesn't matter if the length of the testing is 10 minutes or 10 hours, the battery difference will remain roughly the same.
      The LENGTH of charge is something that should be tested in an individual review, not a comparison video like this one, like I explained in my previous comment.

      To best future proof go for atleast 32gb ram (to avoid as much 'swap memory' use, which will wear out the SSD faster).
      And 1tb storage atleast (bc cant upgrade later, have to spec ideal now or concede to living the external-drive life). But if want to keep for longer than 4yrs, you should go higher than 1tb for convenience.
      And atleast 24-core max for future-proofing. (if shorter term then the M1-Pro would be enough)
      If will definitely hold onto for the long term as main machine, then its worth the extra$ investment now

    The more NEW MBP videos I watch, when comparing to my own model, gets more and more confusing. I thought the sweet spot would be the 24GPU Max--because of the faster memory bus---model but didn't want to wait. Turns out, it does drain battery quicker. But would it based on my use, Ps being the only app I use that would make use of the extra GPU cores and RAM? Didn't want to wait, so went with the 16" Pro 32gb RAM, 1 TB drive. I like keeping apps open, but nothing like the heavy loads I see demonstrated. Lo and behold, I see crazy RAM use and swap warnings with just writing programs and Safari. After hooking up two external Apple 24" displays, Control Center is hogging 4gb even with displays disconnected (I will restart later to see if that fixes the issue). I use 3-4 desktop windows with about six programs running, but when I launch Ps, I sometimes get the spinning rainbow ball when opening photos, and every time when selecting objects to copy for masks. My RAM use has gone as high as 28gb, and now hovers around 16gb. My M1Air, 16gb, never got beyond 12gb used, although swap RAM approached 2gb of 4. My 16" intel, 32gb, averaged around 20gb average, to 25 at most. Seems like the more RAM you have on the M1s, the less efficient the usage because the RAM swap seems to meet app needs when needed. Would the 32gpu solve the Ps issue? I don't know. There shouldn't be that issue based on the videos I've watched, but...there it is. And would I take a battery hit even though I only use Ps with power connected? I can surf and write for 2+ days on battery, equal to my M1Air. Nuts! Discord(ant) is a state of mind...

    • @CreatedTech
      @CreatedTech  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      PS is still badly optimized for Apple silicon, could be your issue. Also sounds like a potential software issue, so maybe try reformatting the SSD worst case scenario and see if it improves.
      PS is mostly RAM and CPU hungry, I don't believe it uses much of the GPU (from my own use of PS at least, could be wrong).

    Hi! I just bought a base model 14" M1 Pro MBP, but I noticed something weird - the WindowServer process is taking an inexplicable amount of RAM and CPU. Even with just one Netflix tab open, it is taking ~50 GB!!!! of RAM and >100% CPU. This is creating high memory pressure. How is this even possible? This is to bring this issue to your attention. Is this happening with you too?

    Just out of curiousity: who even stabilizes their footage anymore? (through software I mean)
    We're so past warpy jelly footage, I feel this has become a synthetic benchmark at this point. That, OR - the stabilization has become THAT good that I no longer notice it.

    The real winner is the MBA M1 with 16GB 1TB. In practice the same power as the MBP 14" but absolutely quiet because of fanless. God sake it only has no Notch and TouchBar. The MBA is also very slim and light.
