- Autosavant.com's Kevin Gordon gives his impressions of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler from the paved road. Check back later this week for our off-road portion of the test as well as a video of removing the top.
I drive this car to school and back everyday , I love it and I live in the city where there isn't much room for off road . It's great on road I am glad that I chose this jeep as my first car . Also I take the 2 front top pieces off most of the time and it takes 2 minutes for both the back takes 5 minutes . It's a fun jeep to ride in with friends so .. Please explain to me why you're telling people not to get it if you're going to use it everyday on the highway .
As an owner of a'12 Wrangler Unlimited Sport, this is a fair assessment. As a day-to-day rig, going to get groceries, and all that normal "living" stuff, there are other options that could do it more comfortably and/or efficiently within the price range. That being said, I adore mine, even as and everyday driver. I love it even more when the snow starts to fly, and many other vehicles around me start to struggle. So. much. FUN!
BTW, as a 26 year Jeep Veteran, I would not be overly concerned with these other guys that are rippin' on your review. We Jeep owner's/enthusiasts are very passionate when discussing all things Jeep.
John Mantey it’s a Jeep thing man ...and besides they don’t loose their value so it’s a good investment to own
I've literally wanted a Jeep Wrangler ever since I was 4 years old. Those big battery powered toys were so appealing to me, but my parents never bought me one for obvious reasons. That yearning stuck with me though, and I'm 22 years old now, never having bought my first car yet. I refuse to drive anything but the Jeep, and will wait and save for it as long as it takes, no matter how impractical it may be. It is the ultimate vehicle in my eyes, and there's nothing else like it.
I could have gotten any SUV/Crossover, but nothing can do what my 2012 wrangler unlimited sport does!!! I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND a jeep wrangler unlimited to anyone in the market for a all around do anything, go anywhere and have TONS of fun vehicle....
If you driving in Los Angeles on daily basis, you need a car like this, the roads (city or highway) in LA are so bad, it's like offroading everyday. Pot holes, uneven pavements, bumps, rough spots are everywhere. If you not shocks/suspensions are going out on you first then it's your engine mounts.
wrangler sahara owner here. 4 door with 3.5inch lift and 35inch tires. drives on the highway like a champ. gets bumpy in the wind , but damn, 365 day use without issues. owns winter, summer and everything in between. don't expect soft car handling. you get abuse proof solid axles that will take more punishment than independent junk. simple and it works. jeep owners understand and love it
Thank you, I want a Wrangler Unlimited.
My dad just got a 2013 wrangler unlimited rubicon, we took it to some mountains nearby and I gotta say it climbed over them amazingly
I am a 2013 wrangler owner and this review was accurate. All he is saying is that the Jeep is not a good highway/everyday car, which is completely true. It is good off-road, in the snow, and fun with the top off, thats it.
Subscribed no one else has reviewed the wrangler quite this well
Nothing like having a magic the gathering player review a jeep. Quite entertaining.
Keeping it real, I love this guy...
very thorough review. cool.
dude. You can store the tops. They take fifteen seconds to remove, and they store in a bag behind the back seat. Disappointed with your review. Where's the off road footage?
anything with four wheels and an engine that starts reliably is a good first car haha
I'm pretty happy in general. Did you watch the off-road portion?
People around say a lot of things yet most of them knew nothing.
Driving a car is a personal choice, if yr family do not object go for it.
I drive an 1979 MGB daily in city traffic mostly for 11yrs done over 70000 english miles. Gives me fun every mile but heaps of maintainace issues.
One time I got trapped by a traffic police and as he is giving me the ticket the people gather around and say how pretty the car is!
I am going to choose between a jeep or defender or LC 70, but no wish ofroad!
I'm sitting here thinking, "that area looks really familiar", and then I saw you turn onto 29 just outside Phoenixville, lol.
I have never seen such a long review for autosavant, 3 segments? Overkill.
Dude it’s a Jeep and we only live once ... if always gonna worry bout gas or it’s not a everyday car etc etc we are never gonna enjoy life
What about very bumpy, city construction roads? Like downtown Atl?
Good call.
If he's driving a 2012 Jeep don't you think the 2015-2016 model would have changed all or even most of his complaints ? Because I really badly would like this Jeep as my first !
Nah maybe they'll change it at 2018
The hard top is actually very easy to take off and its light! Its fiberglass not plastic. The two front top pieces fit perfectly in the back off the unlimited. Ppl say its all plastic and cheap....most all cars are. Jeep wranglers just don't have the carpet crap wrapped all over everything...makes it east to clean after the desert weekend! But I have some friends that have land rovers that droul over this thing! So says something about its cheap appearance doesn't it! A great vehicle overall! :)
Right now looking at a 2012 in 2019 Jeep going for $21,000. Any Jeeps for sale are sold in 1 week or less.
This just proves that only people who have been around Jeep's understand them. I was raised in my dad's 1987 Scrambler, I know what it means to be in a Jeep.
Is this vehicle great for everyday driving?, man I see so many around, that this review makes me wonder if I should actually get one. Because I need it for every day driving.
Ok would you recommend this for me? I live in Wisconsin and here we have winter from November to February, entailing ice, and plenty of snow. I would probably only take it off road maybe 1 or two times a month in the summer. Do you think this would be a viable option or should I continue to look?
wearing a TRD jacket nice.. how's the visibility in your TJ?
just bought a 2013 jeep wrangler sahara, mostly cause i fucking love the truck, but i hope to do off roading and shit. The drive is nice
its not a truck
John Lawry It's a jeep. And study up on the wave lol
Crw5555 lol I know its a jeep but all I am saying is its not a truck. and what are you talking about the wave what wave?
I wasn't being an ass, I was agreeing with you, it's not a truck. It's a Jeep! :D
And the Jeep Wave: there's a video on here about it. When you pass another jeep, you wave. An old tradition for jeep owners. Almost a way to acknowledge how much we love our vehicles and speculation is the wave is that it started from soldiers in WWII waving to each other, but I'm not sure how true that is.
Crw5555 oh okay yeah sorry for getting defensive I guess its just naturally how you get on line lol. Also yeah I didn't know that but I think the story about it starting in ww 2 is probably true it just makes sense.
it takes me 10 mins to take off the whole top the to front and back and the two front panels fit perfectly in the jeep not the one giant back though
Take a look at our other videos we did take the Wranger off road.
that vehicule is a rare thing nowdays....a smallish suv.....and not a crossover like 99% of the rest
the nissan murano crosscabriolet is one, but of course youll argue that the jeep is better, which it is, in some respects.
Two dozen twelve? Um, that would be the year 2412.
A year ago I bought a new Wrangler Sahara Unl (Pentastar). Well, no technical problems, the car is very good to drive in a city, BUT fuel consumption is awful! In litres: 26l/100km at winter, or in gallons: only 10mpg! I don't go offroad but even now in a summer and in a heavy downtown traffic my Wrangler drinks almost 18l/100km!
Smiles per gallon not miles per gallon
I have a brand new 2013 Sahara with 1,900 miles on it when it started to have issues. At 2,300 miles it needed to be towed to the dealership. Chrysler denied me warranty service on the vehicle and it cost me nearly $1,200 out of pocket to get the vehicle repaired. I will never buy another Chrysler product again
( Not Capable, at High speeds )... Put simply ; If you drive this Ride on a windy day, on the interstate, doing 70mph..... " You'll better keep both hands on the steering-Wheel ".lol..
Old t-top problem? The only problem is they're not made anymore.
can the two front pieces fit in to the "trunk"
Is this good for a first car?
10 years ago it would have been a luxury suv, you'll be fine.
yeah, you right but try to drive normal car in Montreal, and you have to spend a lot of money for the parts. Because in Montreal you better drive jeep because in Montreal the roads very bad.
I don't think it's a jeep thing that you do not understand, however, name one all wheel drive vehicle that has an entirely removable top.. Many people select the jeep for this reason alone whether it ends up as a pavement pounder or semi trail-rig.
until you take the doors off you just wont get it
Get it straight guy, the base rubicon has and does more then the arctic. The arctic is nothin more then a sahara with stickers and color coded trimmings.
I guess its a Jeep thing and we don't understand.
I understand now why theres so many dislikes -.-
Damn, I doubt to buy Wrangler Unl 2012. Only city driving, I have a 8-year daughter. My wife has a hybrid Lexus RX 2006. I dislike Lex. Yes, I love Wrangler for his charisma. And I want him. But all the world around speaks to me it doesn't fit for city driving. Damn!
it's a cool jeep! drives great in snow. you should buy two each and give me the artic kind with the two doors :)
jeeps where design to be a great offroad car that also drives you safely enough on the roads but is not an sport car to do slalom, and compared to other 4x4 models in the range price might not be the best equipped either so is all he is saying, if you will drive more often offroads this is the vehicle to have because all the disadvantages on the tarmac make it a better vehicle offroad, I would not use a brand new mitsubishi pajero on crazy offroads but i would use a new jeep wrangler instead.
He looks like Ed from Flashpoint!
Not a bad review I guess there are tons of jeep fans which gets all sensitive if some one says they are not good. but If you listen well to the guy he is just being clear and honest, is not like this car is perfect for everything which any jeep fan should know by now they are not and is not a bad thing we have to understand that there have to be trade offs between offroad and road driving is probably difficult from an engineering stand point to create a vehicle capable of everything...
That guy is just an unhappy man
12:07, get your hands off the roof knob and wave ;)
All other all wheel drive SUV's are BOOOOORING!!!!! Except for the FJ Cruiser. People like the Jeep what all that it is not for stature.
Jeep the original 4x4 since 1941! EVERYTHING ELSE IS JUST COPY! 0IIIIIII0
that's not a jepp...tha's a limo 4x4
wtf ''' man go home ,my sahara diesel go 700 kilometer /tank .
Stopped watching before he finished his first sentence. Ain't nobody got time for that! :)
he doesn't have a clue about the top removal.
@Rickolee speed up and roll threw it
The reviewer is right. Way too many posers making wrangler mall crawlers. People who buy this and never plan to take it off road are more concerned about image than anything else.
