    Hey Georgia! This is awesome. I'm someone from consulting trying to break into strategic design and the video provides an excellent go-to explainer for the role. Also, I love how you mentioned design thinking is a way to "act" (as opposed to just think). Action + iteration are core to designing and I feel innovation wings in big corporate enterprises often don't underscore that enough.

    Such an informative video! Your passion and enthusiasm has me intrigued with this topic.
    One question though: with your statement that begins with, “Compared to hard data…” around timestamp 8:00, I wonder how a Strategic Designer should defend any doubters who just say to refer to the hard data when creating a strategy? Furthermore, how exactly would you answer what research tools/software you use to an interviewer at a business, who might not even be well informed on what strategic design is? Thank you 😊

      Hello !! I'm SO SORRY I have taken so long to respond to your comment 🥹 Thank you for watching, commenting and being here 🩵
      It's such a good point about hard data - I think a lot of traditional strategists or business folks want to lean on that data (and for good reason). But data only captures what we know to ask it to capture... so sometimes we have to change the parameters of data AND sometimes data can't capture the intangible benefits of brand/business decisions either. (I talk about this briefly in my recent consulting video and the idea of Rhetoric vs Logic). For any doubters, I would either refer to my past projects where the strategic design process has resulted in business uptake, refer to case studies where other brands have taken a consumer centric approach to success, and also refer to the fact that many design-led companies are among the most financially successful (e.g. apple, disney, google, nike). Interbrand has a really nice graphic of this if you google "interbrand best global brands"
      I would hope that one of your interviewers is across mixed research methods so that you know you'll get to do this in your new role but if they're not, I would explain the design research process with them and refer to general research approaches more so than specific tools (e.g. qualitative interviews, quantitative surveys, A/B Usability testing)
      Hope this helps ✨

      I made a video about books I recommend strategic designers read. These could help give you a sense of the career too. Watch that here: th-cam.com/video/x6zfMiYRjwE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_fN4Mv5BDBDnw7EA
      For more strategy (specific to marketing/advertising) Mark Pollard and Julian Cole share a lot of free resources on Linkedin. There's also the fountain institute that puts out free content on the topic too!
      Hopefully this is enough to get you started with for now! All the best 😇

    Hello, being a design course does it include any actual art related things like Sketching, painting etc?

    • @georgiadoust
      @georgiadoust  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there, you definitely get to make things (our first few assignments involved a lot of physical collaging) and you can choose creative electives (I did screen printing and that involved a lot of pattern making and printing) but more traditional sketching and painting classes would more fall into a fine arts degree :)

    Hi, I am a fashion designer . I am very interested to study this course "strategic design management". Can you please suggest me some European universities for Masters?

    • @georgiadoust
      @georgiadoust  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, I'm not super familiar with universities in europe as I studied in Australia but here in London I know Royal College of Art and University of the Arts London are two very popular design universities. You can also google "QS World University Rankings by Subject 2024: Art & Design" to see a list of universities across the world (including europe) and search their programs for strategic design. All the best!

    How different is strategic design vs product management?

    • @georgiadoust
      @georgiadoust  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      such a good question !! This can depend on where you work AND how a product manager will define their own role in that company BUT in my experience the key difference is that strategic design focuses on ensuring the product fits or better yet, challenges the market while product management focuses on making sure that the product is actually delivered to market ✨
      hope this helps 💘

      @@georgiadoust thank you that makes sense.
      In an ideal world should strategic design insights/outputs set up the product roadmap? Maybe a video idea how strategic design, ux and product work together?

    • @georgiadoust
      @georgiadoust  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ari357 absolutely! Strategic designers can ideate potential concepts or deliverables and roadmap those with product management :) that's a great idea for a video, I'll add it to my list ✨ thanks for sharing 💘
