    Nailed this. thank you. I was actually doing this for a while but not really knowing. a mix of all 3 but expecting all 3 in some shape or form for each project/product. I have help design component ideas for front end content teams, carousel ideas, log in and checkout experiences. There are parts that throw me then i realise i action other parts with out even thinking. Thanks for making clear easy dots point for people out there.

    I've had discussions about this with other designers who insist it's all the same. Someone I know who works in one of the FAANG companies told me they're transitioning to calling the UI/UX Design role Product Design instead. It's kind of a bummer that people don't use definitions in practice.

    I have a question: as a senior/lead ui-ux designer I start the conversation with the client from the brief and then suggest best way to go, from prototypes approach for testing towards handover to devs, mentoring juniors, training people in accessibility and looking after the best process for the team-cross collaboration. So what would be the best title for it? It isn't head of design cause we don't have a big team but I am working with the client and other head of departments about best approach depending on the problem and the more efficient way to deliver. Is that Design ops even if it is design strategy? Or is it Design strategist (looking after client design management + ui/ux overview of process + design ops)? thanks

    Great content! Was wondering if you could do a video about Service Design vs CX Design(Customer Experience) Also, is the latter an emerging field with the likes of Amazon and Apple focusing plenty on customer base, retention and all that. A reply here is fine too, just wanted to hear your thoughts on it. Cheers :)

    • @relabstudios
      @relabstudios  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Benjamin! Thanks for the great question, absolutely we will drop this idea into our content list and make a video for you.
      In short, you can think of CX as the overarching category, that houses things like Product and Service design. Within their respective context, (ideally) products and services cross path, compliments each other and creates a seamless holistic experience for the customer. It’s meant to be human centred. It’s meant to be a great customer experience. And that’s a topic that a CX designer would be interested about.
      CX is emerging, but so is Product Design, and Service Design. In some regions, even UX Design is still a topic that companies are only catching up on. So our advise would be for you to look at the available opportunities around you, and gauge what the market needs. Then relative to your strengths and skills, focus on that particular offering. It may well be Service, Product, UX, UI, or the big picture CX. One thing for sure, they all require Human Centred and Design Thinking mindsets.
      Hope that helps Ben!

    I want to know. I have recently finished a project I was working on and handed to developers to code. In the course, it started as an idea, I did a bit of research and also interviews with people I know will need the product. After, I used the research results to design all the UI's and also did prototyping using Adobe XD.
    I am from a graphic design background and got into UI/UX after joining a company that had that department. I must say I have successfully designed couple of websites and Mobile app UIs but I am still confused as to what to calll myself. A graphic designer, Product designer? UI designer or what? Help me

    • @relabstudios
      @relabstudios  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Adruma. Thank you for watching. First and foremost, you are a designer. A designer that solves problems for others. But if we talk about specifics, technically you can all yourself anything you want depending on what you’re producing. If it’s digital products, then you can narrow down your role to UI/UX, Digital Designer or Digital Product Designer… Then you can dive deeper into it and further clarify based on the topic of this video. I wouldn’t call myself graphic designer if I’m trying to specialise on digital. Because Graphic Designer is too broad and commonly associated with visual communication design, no matter what the medium is.

    by now we're just splitting hairs. practically all these topics are interchanged between experience designer and product designers. sure, UI is a separate sub-function. But in the end UX guys and product guys could basically be doing similar jobs. its just very confusing when people say these things. As young designers entering into the industry we really are unsure of what to call ourselves. in my opinion, a UX designer and product designers should be combined into just one role. UX design.

You have to interact with people either way. I wouldn't recommend you to limit yourself to just UI and be more open to different opportunities. Every company is different. For the last question, yes. It's not hard to go from UI/UX to product design. You have to know UI/UX to be a product designer anyway

      The term “product design” can be articulated as digital product design especially these days. However it historically also means physical product design or industrial design

    Ok, now i understand the difference between UI/UX Designer and Product Designer. But then i discover the existence of UX Architect role. What the difference between Product Designer and UX Architect? It really UX Architect role is a thing? Haha 😂

    How one can be a UX designer and not think about business goals, product scalability and consistency? Quite $hitty one I guess?

      @@relabstudios I really liked it however, it was a good way of providing a summary of what was said. To each their own!

      I personally liked the written part , it allows the person to talk through the thought process. If you just want the text ash then you can always forward the video

    Sorry but I must say that your explanation doesn't convince me at all. First of all, UI is 100% part of UX, so when you say UX you should also implying UI. Therefore the Uxui code is something intrinsically wrong, as there should only be UX. As for the distinction between UX and product instead, well I think that all the tasks and responsibilities you listed for the Product designer are also within the UX designer domain. No more no less. In conclusion, there should be one term only, which is UX designer and that's it. If you're not convinced, let me ask you a question: have you ever seen the two roles living together in the same organization? No, because it wouldn't make sense to have a UX designer and a product designer and treat them differently. They are the same thing. Feel free to contest my thesis, I would love to hear someone who proves me wrong
