Next.. I purchased an MacBook Air and have to relearn Garageband all over in a more technical and difficult format. I’m not a wizard but... why can’t it it be as simple on the MacBook Air??

Hi Patrick, I know this post is a year or so old, but hoping you can answer this? I’ve been following Pete Johns for the past 6 months or so and have managed to learn GarageBand on my iPad thanks to his awesome videos. I have recently bought a MacBook Pro and am thinking to myself why not use GarageBand with the Mac right? The learning curve here looks so much more involved, but will this give me better audio quality than what I currently get once I get my head around it? Cheers I Gerard
Would still love to see how to share projects with other musicians. Dropbox cannot keep the tracks separate (only sharing single MP4-like files) and Apple seems to not allow access to any of your files uploaded to the iCloud. Another strange thing is that my 2018 iPad's GarageBand interface looks quite different than your iMac version. Makes comparisons a bit tricky. Thanks Patrick.
Vance, the Mac OS version is a more sophisticated program than the iOS version with a Mac interface, but that's not to say iPad Garageband stifles potential enjoyment for a lifetime of creative output. If that's what you've got it'll be a long time if ever before you push its envelope . Hours and hours of creative fun ahead for you sir.
So many instructions start with complex stuff, yet I am finding difficulty in finding a tutorial to do the basics, that being, a straight 4/4 rock beat, add some guitar and bass, and a vocal or two. Is there a simple tutorial available. I hear "select a beat from the many provided", problem is, yes, I would love to do so, but where are these beats and how do I select them?, etc., without being instructed on complex effects, input/outputs, all other info that I may need down the line, but right now, I want a simple little recording.
Just wondering, if I set the smart controls to automatic, and keep the gain knob on my focusrite just below the red - would that be around the right volume/output level generally?
Hey Patrick, Im a long time subscriber and I love your videos! Quick question for you, lately when recording vocals using my Microphone AT 2035 into my Focusrite 2i2 interface I'm getting alot of echo in my voice. I wasn't having that problem before but now it won't go away. Is there a setting or a switch that I could be forgetting about in the recording process? Any help or tips are much appreciated!
@@TheGaragebandGuide Hey Patrick I record in my home studio/office. I've always used that room for vocals so I'm not sure what the problem is but thank you!

This video is really useful thank you (Now Subscribed). Couple of slight issues I am having, using Scarlett 2i2 with a Shure 58 mic in Garageband, is that my "recording volume is frozen out and my vocals seem to be panned left even though the panning within Garageband is at 0?
You need to set the track to ‘Mono’ instead of stereo. The input gain will be controlled by the 2i2 when attached, which is why the slider is greyed out. Thanks for subscribing!
