Great video, thank you for being so honest! "We forget to nourish the practice that creates the music" - I love that! 🌞

Thanks so much! It's crazy how often we forget to nourish the very root of what allows us to create in the first place

I'm still pretty new at composing. But nothing more gets me into the mood when I'm driving and listening to those tracks from John Barry. Windows down, 4:00pm, warm brass chords, and lush strings.

That’s awesome! Can I ask you 2 questions?
      1. What’s your biggest frustration with writing music/your writing process?
      2. What’s your biggest hope or dream for writing music/your writing process?
Thanks so much for commenting! Working on some big stuff to elevate the videos :)

      1. Probably, my biggest frustration with music writing is finding time to slow-down, concentrate, and write. I'm always rushing through life. Rushing to work, rushing to finish tasks at work, and rushing to get home. It's hard to find a quiet time/space to get the creative juices flowing. On top of that, I know very little music theory, so I can't expand my creativity, so it's been a gradual, very slow learning process.
      2. My biggest dream in writing music is to paint Christ through my music. I don't know how it's going to happen, but that's my dream: to glorify Christ through music.
My channel has very basic pieces, but I hope I can grow it as I learn along the way.

That’s amazing!! Thanks so much for your answers, they’re incredibly helpful.
Also I adore (and am low-key jealous of) the Christian musical tradition. So you’ve got plenty of “giants” whose shoulders you can stand on :)

Also you have the right perspective on Music theory. It aids creativity and helps solve compositional problems 👌

That means a ton, thank you. I really want to make the best educational videos I can. Could you answer these two questions for me? It’ll help :)
      1. What’s your biggest frustration with writing music?
      2. What’s your biggest hope or dream with writing music?
      Thanks!!

      Fair enough! Haha
Yeah I’m right there with ya. It’s all a matter of time and consistency (he said as if he knew what he was talking about). Just keep making videos and keep trying to figure out what people actually want help with. That’s been the hardest part for me.
My goal is make an online course that distills all my teaching into something anyone at any skill level can get value out of :)

As a songwriter, how do you reach singers to try out your songs?

    • @JustWriteMusic
      @JustWriteMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Bob! Great question. This is the part of the process where having a network of musicians and musician-friends to help you with performing or recording your music, especially if you’re working with little to no budget.
If you do have a budget and a fully formed song, hiring a singer is a great idea.
Outside of that, if you’re just looking for someone with a nice voice just to see how your melody sounds, I recommend going on a Facebook group of singers and put yourself out there.
This is a great way to make some friends and potential collaborators. Especially when payment isn’t an option. You do favors for friends, they do some for you, and you grow together.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions!
