In this video I'll go over my suggestions for Oculus GO battery packs, how to mount them, cables (magnetic cables are the way to go), and how to help preventing the Go from overheating.
Here's all the items mentioned in the video:
Getihu 5200mAh Battery Pack (My favorite): amzn.to/2TBFshV
Onn 3350mAh Lipstick battery (2nd fav): www.walmart.co...
RavPower 20100mAh super battery (I use this battery the most day-to-day as it's SUPER versatile): amzn.to/2DWPXqM
NetDot Magnetic USB charging cables. I like this verion (Gen 10) as it's also a data cable and can be used to trasnfer files to the Go: amzn.to/2GtSIkQ
USB Voltmeter: amzn.to/2GdaCsP
Small silver metal stickers: amzn.to/2GeSZci
Larger black metal sticker (these work better, and are cheaper, but are too big for the lipstick size battery packs): amzn.to/2SB8Es0
RavPower Filehub Plus Battery/dlna server. This thing ROCKS. amzn.to/2E1uWtC
Magnets to mount the batteries to your Go: amzn.to/2MPPHMW
VR Cover head strap: vrcover.com/pr...
APTX low latency Bluetooth transmitter: amzn.to/2GvE1xZ

Hi, thanks for sharing all these infos with us. I do have a question, I hope you'll know the answer.
So I bought a faulty Oculus Go and the issue is that it won't charge and also won't turn on. When I push the power button, the LED light next to it doesn't do anything (also nothing happens when I plug in the charging cable) and then the Oculus logo appears for maybe 2-3 seconds, then the unit shuts off. Do you think that replacing the battery would fix it? And if so, do I just have to take that black plastic wrap thing off of the battery and just simply remove the ribbon cable and attach it to the new battery? The easiest way of fixing such issues would be if you could buy the batteries already with this specific ribbon cable attached, but literally no one is selling Oculus Go batteries.
I disassembled the headset already by the way, but I'm stuck at this point. Thanks for your answer in advance.
I've never replaced a battery on the Go, but I would assume taking the shrink wrap off it and replacing it would work fine. Just be sure to solder the new one in correctly. You'll see when you take the wrap of you'll have wires going to the + and -, make sure you wire it correctly. I would guess it's just a simple flat-top 18650 cell, cheap on Amazon.
@@tycotech Thanks for the tip :)
Mine overheated twice while charging it while using it. I wouldn't risk it again. I'd rather connect a external battery..Didn't get the link, what 'lipstick" small battery you recommend?
I don’t understand why you don’t have more views, you are a good communicator , kudos to you👍
I know you don’t get a ton of views man but your a huge part of the Oculus Go community and your making a difference man. I watch a lot of your videos and I’m sure there is hundreds or thousand more. We need pioneers in the VR industry and your one of them💯👌🏼 keep it up man.
Thanks, Bro!
As others have said, really appreciate your videos. Informative with no amateur theatrics. Keep them coming.
I recently overheat my Go when playing Racket Fury, never happened to me before that. My brightness was at about a third and never even thought about it. I just dialed it down to about a 10% and see how it goes. Thanks for such a great and interesting video!
You didn't waste my time and you gave me tons of good info... so I subscribed.
Awesome video... Thanks for all the tips and tricks 👍
Have to say, never had any serious heating with my go. It gets warm but nothing alarming.
Had a look at the magnetic connectors and may get them later if I have any spare cash. For the moment, I'm really looking at extra power.
Another informative vid. Thanks for all you do.
Nice! Great angle switching I really like that, I think it does the same thing as jump cuts! ;)
Thanks! Yeah, trying to give the vids a little more action, keep the views attention! lol
What can I use to charge the go. Is there any great charging power device. Including the name of the usb.
what do you do if the go battery is completely dry???
Thanks for the info Ty. I'll see if the brightness adjustment will help with heat on my Go. Also, do you have the link for the Blutooth gizmo on the side for headphones?
Brightness adjustment def helps a lot. Here's the link to the Bluetooth transmitter: amzn.to/2GvE1xZ
Thanks, This blutooth will be a great add on for my go.@@tycotech
Thanks for an informative video.
There are games with my oculus that require it to be connected to the USB on my PC to play. The USB gives a slow charge... why would there be a problem playing non-pc games, etc and having that 15' USB cable plugged in? Isnt that charging while you are using it?
Phenomenal video! So helpful!
Can u help . Ive just had a oculus go and its not charging past8 % whats the problem ?
the problem that i am having is that it takes forever to chsrge it didnt go over 8 percent, and when i switch it on i look at the ocolus logo for 30 seconds, then it starts turning off and on then it just goes to the low battery screen and it just say 6 percent
I have a question. That first one you say is your favorite. I just ordered it but what kind of run time can I expect from it? How much extra time does it actually add? Thank you!
At least an extra 3-4 hours.
@@tycotech Thank you. I'm excited for that. :) It should be here today.
Hey Ty, Thanks for the breakdown. The link in description for the RavPower Filehub Plus Battery/dlna server lands at a "not found" page. Maybe they discontinued it?
Thanks for pointing that out. Not sure what changed, but I've updated it. Here's the link too: amzn.to/2E1uWtC
can i use a android charger or not?
Thank you for video, it is really helpful. Actually I have one question. Is it possible to just remove internal battery and run on external battery?
It's is. Lucky Palmer (founder of Oculus) did just that with his Go. Idk if I would try it, but it is possible.
@@tycotech Unfortunately, we could not be able remove the internal battery. The system does not turn on without the internal battery. By the way we still have overheating issue, the system could only run around 90 mins with external battery. Can we try anything else?
Here's how Lucky Palmer set up his Go: palmerluckey.com/oculus-goblack-how-to-make-your-oculus-go-better/ Here's how to make a SUPER cheap and easy DIY cooling rig to keep the Go cool: th-cam.com/video/FZXzJZlBBHA/w-d-xo.html Works REALLY well.
Any good recommendations for magnetic USBC to USBC charing cable for the quest?
I haven't seen C to C mag cables. That would be great though.
When using the powerbank, does your oculus still drain in %. I was told it should not drain at all when your using a 2.4A.? I have a cheap powerbank with 2A output but while watching movie, it still drains the oculus.. Any thoughts? thanks
You'll want 2.4a to keep it from draining while in use. But, with a 2a battery it shouldn't drain very fast and depending on the size of the battery you'll get several hours of use.
@@tycotech ok. I just checked the output with a usb meter checker and my powerbank doesn't even reach 1A. I wrote the company and their answer seems wrong, feels like I am being lied to. This is what they explained. Please tell me what you think. thanks. (( It can't reach 2A,that is because your oculus or the cable can't receive 2A Amps, the output is 2A Amps, the receiving device should macth 2A Amps, then you can test 2A , in another word, the amps is the receiving amps, not the charger's amps.
All the product we had double check the output can reach 2A,before we deliver))
👍👍👍
