So why is this considered an edc light?

Assuming you're taking about the EDC2-DFT... Dual-mode, does both high output on first press, then release and press again for low mode. The light gives you high output for defensive purposes but also can be stepped down to low mode for utility or administrative use. Kinda depends on your definition of EDC, but some folks want a light that serves dual roles as a defensive tool and utility light. If you want something purely for utility purposes, this probably isn't for you. If you want a candela monster that can be used as a nonlethal tool to overwhelm a potential assailant's vision, or in conjunction with a handgun, while also being useful for finding your keys in the dark without blinding yourself, this might be a good option.
