Aaaaawwwww.... I just want to give you a HUGE HUG!! Believe me when I tell you, I feel your pain and I too had a very REAL reaction to watching that whole thing play out. Yes it is a show, but some of us have experienced similar situations where we weren't so fortunate enough to have a butcher knife near by. Shout out to your supportive partner sitting beside you for understanding and not being a jerk about your feelings. That was AWESOME! 💜🙏🏿😊
Oh I would have hugged you right back 😭🫂 after I had a bit to come back to myself, I watched some other reactions on TH-cam, and it was genuinely interesting to see how people viewed Ellie killing David sort of as a pure fist pump moment, when I personally saw an added layer of trauma by forcing this teen girl to have to commit awful violence in order to defend herself. Violence against someone who deserves it is still violence. But of course everyone reacts differently, and I think that speaks highly to the complexity of the source material as well! Thank you so much for this comment. 💜 And yes, I couldn't ask for a better partner.
Sorry there's not much of a post-episode discussion with this one, obviously I had a very visceral reaction to the subject matter and was unable to continue. Curious to know: what were your thoughts on the episode?
This was a heavy episode especially with david and im really glad how they handled it. A lot of shows feel the need to "show" a lot in order for it to feel bad, which honestly feels very sensationalizing something truly horrific. Here David never gets to act on his intention, but the implication of what he was going to do was horrifying enough. It was a very nice change of pace for tackling this type of subject matter, especially on hbo which has in the pas straight up showed SA on shows like game of thrones and others.
I'm also glad that they didn't feel the need to "show" it, but that's maybe a reason why it pulled the response that it did out of me. At some point, scenes like that are so gratuitous that I can perhaps tune it out to a degree. Shows tend to portray assault as all or nothing. And characters are often written to almost be unbothered if "nothing" happened. The trauma of having to commit violence in order to protect yourself - even if the "deed" was technically never done, even if the attacker is immediately disposed of and resolved - Bella portrays it so well. The aversion to touch, the delayed processing of her traumatized brain right after. You really can feel the weight of every single scene's effects on the characters in this show.
I was all but dreading it. In the game, it's almost as intense, and it is more implied what David was going to do to Ellie. This was more explicit, and it hit all the harder for it. I am sorry it affected you so deeply, but you are not alone. I was a mess playing the game, and my wife and I just sat and tried to process what just happened after watching this. Thank you for the raw and honest reaction.
I knew David was bad as soon as he told James "I sensed doubt in there" and also when he told Ellie in that patronizing way "you're quite the hunter.". When he was looking for Ellie in the kitchen and kept saying "Ellieeeee" it was SO scary. The actor did a fantastic job of playing a villain.
@Studio Beaming Off the top of my head, I'd say: Tropic Thunder, Rat Race. And also stand up comedy like Jim Jeferries or Joy Koy. Also the HBO shows Avenue 5 and Barry.
@@studiobeaming I'd also add Room (2015) starring brie Larson and jacob trembla Cherry and the impossible starring tom holland Crazy stupid love starring Emma stone and Ryan gosling
Her: I just don’t know if I can talk about it Me: I’m sure you can, you already talked over most of the dialogue and especially the last line by Joel. Also, the switching from your regular voice to a baby doll voice was so annoying.
Dude shut up. You don’t understand the type of trauma this can literally have. If you don’t understand how about you shut your mouth. Everyone takes things differently.
@Kristianberg4264 Hey try being a decent human being,if you don't like there reaction then don't watch there no need to be insulting you can see that Joan was deeply affected with what was happening on screen have a bit of compassion

Good reactions, guys.
Great reactions.
She has a horse. It's not that hard to tranpsort a deer when you have a horse. You don't even have to throw it on, just tie it and drag.

playing make-up with your barbies would have been a better use of the time you spent writing this comment
