If you do that video about the ads you've only recently seen, they did show the Simpsons Coke advert on actual Coke vending machines that had small LCD screens around the time it first aired. Though, I think it was silent. I remember just standing there, staring at it and watching in the middle of a mall.
I always wondered how different the Simpsons would be if they kept Plopper as a recurring pet after the events of the movie. To me, had they done that, they would have written him out of the show or ignored him unless it was convenient like Snowball and Santa's Little Helper
I think the plank situation was seen differently for me as a kid, and I still believe my childhood headcanon. Basically, my idea is that Plopper noticed that the archers were about to kill the family and knew that if they stayed with Flanders, it'd just throw everyone into more danger. So he pushed the plank to the side to prevent the family from being struck with the arrows, sort of leading them in the direction of the sinkhole so they could be safe.
Yeah, idk about back then, I saw a few times as an older teen, but now I think it might've either understood the danger from arrows or just fumbled. Pigs can be quite intelligent but they don't necessarily know what to do with people trying to cross with planks, they don't usually see anything like that. It's just a gag at the end of the day, so is being mad at a pig over this. I hope?
Even as a kid, I remember thinking "if they are so out of ideas, why not just get ideas from the comics? Even if they can't stretch a comic plot out to 20 minutes, they should try using comic plots in anthology format. A "Stories from the Simpsons Bookhold" series would work well. And because most viewers haven't read the comics, the plots will feel new and classic writing
I love spider pig cameos. It feels very much like Stan Lee but Simpsons version lol. And I really loved the Maggie episode when he came back lol I screeched like a cockatoo when I saw him lol. I think him making an actual presence in the show is good for like 1 episode every two seasons or more lol. Not over use him but to remember him still ❤
I'd love to see the video on Simpsons ads. I grew up during the show's golden age so I have fond memories of many of them. There's even one that actually aired AFTER Lisa the Vegetarian where she's eating fried chicken, which I find amusing.
I never really grew up with Simpsons ads, at least from my memory, but I've rewatched every Bart Butterfinger commercial more times than any episode of the show lol. I really love those commercials and I've never even eaten a butterfinger
As someone whose introduction to the Simpsons was through the movie, Spider Pig has a very special place in my heart and it always makes me happy when he or the movie itself gets referenced in the show. Oh and I would love to see a video on Simpsons commercials.
He could be used in a Treehouse of Horror, they’ve done animal centric segments before like Night of the Dolphin or the Island of Dr Hibbert. Considering that bodyswapping hasn’t been used before, unless you count Bart and the fly switching heads in Fly vs Fly, maybe Homer could swap bodies with Plopper and take advantage of the fact he’s a literal pig to eat, drink beer, watch TV and sleep (in other words a normal day just in a different shape). Plopper in Homer’s body might be seen as Homer being a bit more Homer than usual. It’d be a more interesting take on the body surf idea Heaven Swipes Right used, which turned into Homer inhabiting various bodies for a series of punchlines and ends on a very creepy Moe moment. Homer swapping with Plopper could also take some inspiration from the Gravity Falls episode Carpet Diem where Soos bodyswapped with Mabel’s pig Waddles, or Disenchantment where Prince Merkimer turns into a pig in the second episode and staying that way the rest of the show (the pig turning into his human form). The Spider-Verse parody missed a trick by not using Plopper as the Spider-Ham counterpart.
it sucks he's just now a minor character or background character,I really think they should've kept him as a pet, there are cartoon characters that literally have a pet pig so I don't see why they didn't take that route
Spider-Pig was how most casual Simpson fans & casual Marvel fans were somewhat introduced to Marvel's Spider-Ham. I'm sure some people Googled Spider-Ham after watching the movie, I know I did. After the movie, I started buying & collecting the Spider-Ham comics. Marvel did not put Spider-Ham into a main role until Spider-Man into the Spider verse
Spiderpigs ham senses went off so he knocked the plank off the window to save homer and the other Simpsons from flaming arrows. Truly a hero with a twisted tail.
Based on how long pigs typically live, there's a good chance he'd be dead by now. He's crapping in a silo and doing whatever a spider pig does with the angels now.
That's a weird thing that tends to happen with these movies based on existing and still running cartoon series. There's always a handful of characters that you NEVER see again, that are never mentioned again. Usually they have the obvious "this character was voiced by a celebrity" problem. The original Transformers movie being the exception, as that was to sell new toys and the new characters were recast with cheaper VA's. But, no celebrity guest star played any new characters, just themselves (Albert Brooks being a recurring guest star for the show, so he doesn't really count). Lisa's love interest was series regular Tress McNeil, and also was never seen again. Anyway, anyone remember the early Family Guy where Peter was dressed up as Spider-Man, but they couldn't afford/get the rights to the Spider-Man 60's theme song and just did the Batman theme? I guess they had more budget/permission for the Simpsons to use it.
Futurama has shown this with the Hulu revival. In the second to last episode of the previous run Zoidberg gets and stays in a relationship with a character voiced by Emilia Clark, obviously pulled off because this was for a decade the penultimate episode of the show. Come the revival she’s not even mentioned even though there’s a Christmas episode that Zoidberg is a focus in and has a focus on family to the point Leo and Inez Wong are at their most tolerable. Marianne should have seen the variations on turducken (my favourite being the sewer one, where it’s an actual bird that seeks death by jumping in a pot of boiling water).
@@jbcatz5 It's obvious that the writers did NOT know the series would come back in 10 years, so they decided to give Zoidberg the happy ending he deserved. Of course, they had to go back to the status quo to make more Zoidberg jokes, so a very intentional case.
Heck yeah to a video about the advertisements! And whenever the show references them, like that episode where Bart gets emancipated and meets Tony Hawk
That meltdown game, I loved it. I couldn't remember what it was called for the life of me thank you! You had to collect Maggies dummys (pacifiers if your American) and I can't remember anything else but oh my days the nostalgia is real!!!! BTW love your videos, I am obsessed with the Simpsons and your videos are *chefs kiss* 🩷
I think Spider pig/Plopper went to an urban farm, Lisa took him to an urban farm where he lived happily ever after for many years to come till he passed away quietly and painlessly in his sleep at the age of 10 years old.
What I find funny is that despite Snowball II first appearing in the sixth episode of the show (Moaning Lisa), over 30 years ago, it actually has had less major roles in the show than Plopper. Snowball II has the episode where it saves Homer from the fire, I Annoyed Grunt Bot where it's "killed off" and the Coralisa TOH segment. Plopper has had four roles if you count the movie, that poor cat lol

I always wondered how different the Simpsons would be if they kept Plopper as a recurring pet after the events of the movie. To me, had they done that, they would have written him out of the show or ignored him unless it was convenient like Snowball and Santa's Little Helper
Maybe he was turned into bacon?
I think the plank situation was seen differently for me as a kid, and I still believe my childhood headcanon. That actually makes sense and with seeing the clip and how just as they're falling the arrows fly it seems legit.
That was my view as well
7 year old thought he was tryna kill them so I always hated him for that

Spider-pig into the plopper-verse
Across the spider pig verse

Edit: ANOTHER GREAT VIDEO 💪
I would love a video about the history of Simpsons commercials!
YES
"He's not Spider-Pig anymore hes Harry Plopper now"
The family should've kept Plopper as a pet. He and Maggie have a good relationship as seen in "puffless".
I just rewatched the episode with Luigi and they never said that was Plopper. That could be a different pig
Genuinely surreal seeing old Simpsons content I had no idea even existed. So yeah the ads sounds like a great topic to explore
I would LOVE a Simpson deep dive into old ads haha
Would love to see a deep dive into the world Simpsons ads
Homer Simpson: “He’s not spider pig anymore, he’s Harry Plopper.”
I would love to see Plopper as Squealer or Napoleon if the Simpsons ever parodied Orwell's Animal Farm.
