- Quite a few things were cut from Beetlejuice: the Musical’s pre-Broadway run in Washington, D.C. Here are several of my favorite of them!
All lyrics from Beetlejuice are written by Eddie Perfect, and the dialogue was written by Scott Brown and Anthony King. I do not own any rights to Beetlejuice: the Musical!

"You're not nice, you're scared." HELL of a line. should've kept it.
Maybe, but it's a manipulative line, so I'm kind of glad they trashed it. They're scared because they care about each other and Lydia, proving that they're nice. Lydia was being a brat when she said that.
ichigoeater It is manipulative but it’s the honest response of a confused hormonal gothic teen in mourning. It’s supposed to sting and be rude and be wrong. You are supposed to see how she came to that conclusion.
i really miss barbara’s miscarriage arc i think it was really deep and added something to how much they wanted kids cuz later on it isn’t as important when lydia basically becomes their adoptive child

I would have cried my eyes out if ‘the children we didn’t have’ was in the show because damn that’s sad
I feel like they should've added a recording of it as a bonus track on the original cast recording, same with Mama Would
I know they wanted to make the musical more kid-friendly, but-
Yeahh, I wish I could see the original cut! it seems so different
It would have been soooo much better, and the musical itself would have had more depth if they kept a lot of key parts! Like the Maitlands miscarriage or the carnical scene (even a toned down version). Because BJ leaves in the end, it would make it easier on the crowd if he was more "evil", and harder to forgive😆 I love the show as it is now, but it would have been so incredibly cool to watch the DC version!! It is so different.
Though I think the bad critics it got in the beginning is the reason for the lack of clips and footage of the musical😕

His whole “BUT MOMMY’S GONE!” Line kinda makes it sound like ether his voice is going demonic or making the room shake from his anger. Ether way a very scary situation!
I think Beetlejuice has some serious mommy issues because no one ever really cared for or about him and some part of him wants to help others get to their loved ones but another part loathes them for the love they share with someone.
Will never forgive them for cutting out children we didn’t have

That line is actually way deeper and more accurate than Delia could have imagined at that time 🤔

I really wish they left the miscarriage aspect of the musical. It would’ve been a very powerful and emotional. The song “Children we Didn’t Have” was a great example of how powerful and sad this aspect of the musical could’ve been.
I completely agree. Not only would it have given the Maitlands the opportunity to have more depth, but it would’ve had themes about both losing a mother AND losing a child. It would’ve been so powerful.

No Name, I’m a week late, but to answer your questions, Betelgeuse said, “I’m just thinking about us, okay?” because he was trying to manipulate Lydia into thinking that they had some sort of genuine friendship. In regards to your latter question, we currently don’t know whether or not Alex will be staying with _Beetlejuice: the Musical._ Right now, we don’t even know that it’ll relocate to a new theatre, so we certainly don’t know what the casting would be like. It’s all up in the air right now.

Otho’s character was so much more developed in dc.
Very true! Whenever I write with Otho (fanfiction or otherwise), I always heavily reference D.C. because he was much more developed. Hell, I also reference Beetlejuice’s workshop script because they had even more development there! Unfortunately, the dude just became less developed over time.

I definitely prefer Beetlejuice with more edge! Its more entertaining but also understandable since he was born dead in the musical and for so long he was alone so his compassion would probably be a lot harder to find

_Well, I have a workshop script, meaning a script before it even went to D.C. I heavily reference it for my videos, but it’s not a D.C. script. I have to sit down and type everything myself due to that fact while heavily referencing the workshop script, which is how I figure out which actions most likely go where._

I'm so glad you included Beetlejuice's entry from the chimney! Lmao I remember the day that I heard Beetlejuice was closing on June 6th... I stayed up til 2 am reading through the entire D.C. script. Now it's not coming back for a while... I'm thankful for your vids- it's fun to look back at this show's wild-ass ride! D.C. Beej really was a Grade A, bona fide Prick, huh? I really hope Emily Would is in the next part! (I'm Very Pissed that Charles did not get to sing more!)

Yay! I've been waiting all day for this! Also something I noticed is that in different performances of the DC run there are different lyrics/lines that were said. I listened to the audio of the performance on October 18th, 2018 (which I believe is the one you used for this video) and then today I listened to the opening night on October 14th, 2018 and there were some extra lines that didn't show up in some of the later DC performances even just a few days later! *also dead mom reprise needs more love it is amazing*

Yeah! I haven’t gotten around to listening to the other D.C. audio you gave me yet (🥺🥺), but I’ve heard that D.C. had a _lot_ of fluctuation. According to Alex, they added and scrapped lines on a nightly basis.
BJ’s “Well, I know that. I’m not dead!” Made me die (saw Beetlejuice, he’s pretty chill. Funny. He’s also my friend. And uhh, he talks abt Lydia a lot. It’s SPICY, his rivalry with the other ghosts. I won’t go into too much detail. Also, Beetlejuice LOVES thin mints. I gave him some, and he went crazy. This is why the other ghosts now *hate* me!)
Why did the cut Children We Didn’t Have? It’s such a sweet song and so much better than Barbara 2.0
Hmm. I saw Beetlejuice 3 times in DC and that song was such a snooze. I absolutely love Barbara 2.0 and never even saw the Broadway production. It’s one of my fav songs on the cast recording.

Yes! There will be a Part 4, but unfortunately, that’s going to be the last installment because I‘ll have put almost all of the D.C. cut content on my channel by then, haha. However, I think I’m going to make a very similar video to this series, where instead of pulling audio from D.C., I’ll review my workshop script (the things that were cut _before_ even D.C.)!

From where did you get these?
to be honest, from all 3 of these videos, some of the things they changed/cut just fit better in the show (though there are some things i would've liked to see, like the miscarriage arc) and give it a better vibe that just makes sense. mainly some dialouge/song snippets, but especially a lot of the r-rated stuff, it was almost too much and just felt a little too childish, which seems like the opposite of what they wanted, and just kinda thrown in there weirdly. i saw it earlier this week (and i'm gonna see it again in a few days lol) and i think there was just the right balance in the show. i like a lot of the song changes to what's on the official album too.

Well, a little bit of both. I have a script for before Beetlejuice even started performing in Washington, D.C.., which I heavily reference for my videos because roughly 70% of things are the same. However, because it is still different than D.C., I have to type it all out.
