@@RobMedvedev Ukraine's Kursk gambit didn't divert much of anything. Those claims have been disproven by the fact that the Russian advances on the other fronts have gone on without pause. All the Kursk did is engage Russian troops who were previously in the interior of Russia and not involved in the conflict.
The only thing Ukraine gained from the push is a PR and morale boost. Those do rightfully belong to them. The troops in the trenches hear of a gain somewhere and so feel that all is not lost. And the media frenzy from it helps Ukraine ask for more aid.
On the other hand, they've depleted multiple experienced reserve formations which would have been better for training new recruits and greener formations for the long haul. Now that's not possible. And the material losses they've sustained are also not replaceable. Sure, NATO can compensate them for all the MRAPS and such. But the AD systems and long-range artillery can't be replaced because stockpiles no longer exist and they aren't made at fast enough rates.

The similarities with the Ardennes offensive is striking. Not only was the senior military officers overruled by the man in charge in both cases, thinking he knows better, but the lack of air support, the cobbling togheter of men and tanks from other sections of the front with bad consequences later in the war, the hastening of the end, the vain attempt to turn the tide and boost morale, the overwhelming odds stacked against the attackers, the unclear end goal of the operation. There are so many similarities.

Zelensky surrounded himself with 'yes men' and people who speak only optimistically, never suggesting that the future will be anything short of his ridiculous 'peace plan'. When the change of military leadership occurred, the shift was on a general that would be more willing to carry out offensive operations, as opposed to the defense focus of Zuluhzny. Syrsky is rightfully referred to as, by ukrainian soldiers themselves, as a butcher that gets them killed needlessly.
Yet, retaking land is all that Zelensky cares about, and optics that indicate things are fine, are also his focus. Kursk is a debacle of epic proportions in that the land taken, is a pitiful hinterland with scattered hamlets and one small town. From an exchange-point of view, this amounts to next to nothing in terms of bargaining power. In fact, the only thing this did was harden the Russian position in regards to their own terms lol. Yet, he will do anything to hold onto this because losing this, can't be spun any other way than as a failure, for both Ukraine and their handlers, especially the Biden administration.
Syrsky has already described the operation as a failure and its likely his time is short now, just as his predecessor's was after the horrific catastrophe of that hyped up summer offensive in 2023 lol.

@@EdCamilo-x1h that absolutely occurred. Anyone deemed to be at risk were relocated out of the border region. Likely for the three reasons: There was a high probability of infiltration during the earlier parts of the kursk situation, Ukraine has never been shy about targeting civilian populations it deems 'the enemy' and the risk of human shields or people taken prisoner for an exchange of POWs, which Russia has a lot more of in their custody than Ukraine does, necessitated the region's evacuation.

Of course it is a politically motivated operation. As a regular pattern Ukrainian troops are being forced to hold untenable positions until the Russians cut off their last evacuation route. The same pattern happened in Bakhmut, Avdiyivka, Vuhledar and now at Kursk. Now, Syrskyi, having graduated from Moscow military academy cannot possibly be that incompetent. His nicknames, like "The Butcher" or "General 200" (200 being a code for fatality) were given to him by Ukrainian soldiers for a reason. And that is why Zelensky picked him as replacement for Ukrainian Zaluzhny and why Mariana Bezuglaya openly accused him of being a Russian asset confirming my suspicions since Bakhmut. If you consider that as a possibility, suddenly you will have a logical answer to all your questions.

You are overlooking a critical fact, that as opposed to Ukrainians like Zaluzhny or Poroshenko, Zelensky is a Russian Jew. As such he doesn't necessarily have loyalty to the Ukrainians as a nation. That explains why he replaced Ukrainian Zaluzhny with Russian Syrskyi, who unscrupulously helps him to eradicate thousands of Ukrainians in militarily absurd fashion. Which explains the mass slaughter of Ukrainians on the front for no rhyme or reason.

It helps if one listens to their military advisor, especially if one has no previous military experience. If Zelensky had any sense he would not have embarked on the Kursk incursion. To waste his best units on a boondoggle is criminal. In addition, he should not have tied up his army in the Donbas. He has placed his army in a situation where it is being ground to pieces by superior Russian firepower. By trying to hold on to every inch of territory Zelensky is playing into the hands of the STAVKA. When one considers these facts, one cannot help but conclude that Zelensky is one of the worst military commanders in recent memory. His incompetence is on par with Sadam Hussein, whose army was crushed by the Americans in the First Gulf War of 1991.
