I was there at Custom Audio when Bob and John were working together. It was a magic time. Had one of his switching systems made for me as well as their new 3 channel pre-amp. Stuff was expensive but never regretted the purchase ever. They were amazing.
I have listened to these episodes over and over again whilst sitting on the mower, power washing the gutters, rocking my daughter to sleep, in the shower..... The list goes on. I'm very grateful for most of the interviews you and Dave have done. Even re-listening to an episode, I pick up on or learn something new. Thanks guys!
The brilliance of Bradshaw is he was able to design player specific rigs that gave top players from EVH, to Vai, to Luke exactly what they needed. He took into account how they played, when they switched amps, the chain order of effects, noise gate positioning, etc. It revolutionized the rig, and the reverberations are still felt to this day. There were a lot of techs telling their guitar bosses, "Oh yeah, I can make you a Bradshaw rig," but they always missed the mark. A Bradshaw rig was built to last, to work right, to deliver. The first element of innovation is assessing reality. You ask the question, "What do players need these days? What are they trying to do with their sound? What are the rough patches they keep hitting?" Bradshaw got the rig, the whole switching system, down to a science. The footswitch ability of it all is still copied to this day in any number of systems, and very obvious when you look at the Line 6 Helix, Axe Fx, the Boss GT series, etc. But with a Bradshaw rig, the switching system was going into real Boogies, Soldanos, etc, and Midi controls. In fact, I would say that Bradshaw's rigs are the inspiration for the growth of Midi controls in amps, and I think Mesa Boogie was the first company to include Midi controls in the Mark III.
Amazing. We used to sneak into Toto sound checks back in the early 90s each time we saw them in the UK? Bob was always cool with us and we used to joke about his huge fridge racks did they have a sectret cold fridge inside there for cool beers ! Legend
Fantastic show! I've been watching some old shows and this is a top 10. Bob told his life story in real time. It's great you gave a chance to tell it. Love the long ones
I went to Bob's place in magnolia and Hollywood I think.. I bought the 4x4. in the RS 10.. and Bob you are the nicest you even added some custom things to it... I still own it.. thank you
Cool to get to know what all Bradshaw did. Always heard the name here and there but never really caught a good grasp on what he really did. Like literally everything. This episode had some gold nuggets for people who are trying to grab good old rack gear.
I can relate with bob. Being the same age. I still have 8 track tapes. Players and 8 Track recorders. Also have the 1970's Big home Stereo equipment. Pioneer, Marantz etc. Reel to reel. All the good old stuff. Those were good times for us old folk! OF COURSE THEY WERE! WE were still young... LOL!
It looks like Mr. Bradshaw invented a LOT of useful and cool stuff, still used to this day. Very good show, definitely in my personal Top5! Thanks to Marc and Dave!
“Fucking struggling with your shit”? You need a Bradshaw rig. Amazing interview guys. This is one of the TH-cam channels that has helped me get through the year. Keep up the great work! Thank you.
Ha!, my cat has that same catnip fish (now just shredded) Out of nowhere enters the room making that same noise with the toy in her mouth. Bob is the coolest. Years ago when I lived in LA, I went to his shop and he made me a 7 pin to 5 pin MIDI cable so I could use the MIDI phantom power of my Intellifex to power my ADA MIDI controller. I believe the 2 outer pins of the 7 pin supply the power?
Enjoyed this a lot! I first heard of Bob a while back when I e-mailed Kane Roberts about his old gear. Kane said his old Alice Cooper tour rigs were made by Bob Bradshaw.
i met Bob at a TOTO show at the Hammersmith Odeon - 92 or 93. He chatted for a few minutes - I asked hi about Vai & Eddie then& i asked for his autograph. When he handed back my ticket he´d signed it STEVE LUKATHER. ¨I won´t tell if you don´t ..... ¨

I remember when these rigs where all the rage, and even a lot of club acts had, if not true Bradshaw rigs, their own take on it. In those days it was all about rack effects, and also rackmounted preamps, like the Boogie Studio .22 or Mark III Simulclass and Boogie 400 watt preamps. I just stuck with a few pedals. These days, because of technology, pedals are all the rage like never before.
I know I'm late to the party, but the Studio Pre was Boogie's first, I think. It was between the Mark III and IV. Right after it, the Quad came out (but to me, the Studio Pre sounded like the III; the Quad was like the IV).

Not anymore, the factory ceased operations in 2016 and was converted into very pricey hotel, condos, a bar/restaurant, and shops on the ground floor where the Wilbur retail store originally was. Wilbur still has an outlet store in the old Freeze and Frizz building across the street. It’s a very nice complex but kinda sad the chocolate manufacturing is gone now, used to be able to smell it all around the area which was heavenly !
Man, i had one of those british made Marshall lead 12's. Sold it and regretted it. Finally acquired another 30 years later but i swear it doesn't sound as good as the original one i had.

Bob BRADSHAW is a legend and an excellent story teller. Mr. BRADSHAW is a visionary whose ideas came alive through CUSTOM AUDIO ELECTRONICS.
Can we do this every night while we're all sheltering in place? Tone talk is my happy place, and this is maybe the best episode yet!
Adam Stewart I agree totally! I could self quarantine indefinitely with steady Tone Talks!
Soldano was a great one :)
It would be great to do more of them considering the situation but have to space them out. We will be back April 4

I was lucky to see Luke varios times at the Baked Potato, Blowing the roof off the place with his Bradshaw Rack!

Luke's sound through his CAE rig (from the Los Lobotomies era) was his best sounding tone to me. It sounded phenomenal.. I wish he still used it.
I went to Bob's place in magnolia and Hollywood I think.. I bought the 4x4. in the RS 10.. and Bob you are the nicest you even added some custom things to it... I still own it.. thank you

I can't like this video enough. So much fun.
Love all of the swearing. Bob swears with true style.
Swearing old-school style. The way we all used to do it.
Bob rules, the guy is a legend & without his work our gear would be very different.
Awesome show. Thanks Mark and Dave! I will love to see a show with Dave, Bob and Pete Cornish. The Holy Trinity of rig designers!
Holy crap had no clue Bob lived in my town !!! Clair and Tait pretty much own the town but you wouldn’t know it until you go by the facilities.
