@diablo169uk Yep. The Doctor's personality has changed over the years. Patrick Troughton was a nervous wreck; whereas Jon Pertwee was swave like James Bond. Tom Baker was confident; Peter Davidson was nice and polite. Sylvester McCoy was a mystery keeper. I love the fact his personality changes over time. It gives each actor to play the Doctor something to make the character his own.

I fear this may be the BBC wanting 'another David Tennant' and like Colin Baker he may not be given the room to be the Doctor he wants to be. The whole feel of the script and performance is David Tennant but the difference from Doctor to Doctor is what makes each one work and seem exciting. This looks like a Tennat scene performed by a stand-in.
@NinjaMatie it's more eerie and alien than tennant's. the 2008/09 version was too loud and overblown and completely misses the point. this version has a mixture of old and new effects from both series and balances it nicely, and matt smith has won me over as the doctor :)

It's been a great revival for the show; 'Eleventh Hour' was outstanding but both the 'Beast Below' and 'Victory of the Daleks' have been lacking something a bit extra although both demonstrated new approaches and had something unique and different about them. I prefer the new tone, I think the writing is better and I think the imagination is very much there. 'Time of Angels' should give us a big show especially since Moffat and his incredible Weeping Angels return.
I was originally a little put off when he said he wanted to explore the "darker side" of the character. Far to emo. But from this clip it looks as though he is staying more true to the character, excited by everything! So yea, I will give him time to adjust. I remember when Tennant took over, I was sad. Missed Eccleston sooo much. But Tennant grew on you, and hopefully Smith will as well.

if you've ever seen any of the moffs other work, you'll know he's got a track record so far with tv shows. coupling? awesome comedy. one of the best. press gang? even today that stands up well. jekyll?? brilliant little miniseries. what ive seen of joking apart makes me want to import it. now he's also known for casting lesser known actors as well. i think he's done a good job with what ive seen so far. he's more p davison than tennant imo...

Absolutely no-one should write off Matt Smith as the Doctor yet. No-one has even seen a full length episode yet for crying out loud. OK, well all loved DT as the Doctor but that ship has sailed and now we have Smith, a new Doctor, a new look. Liking Smith doesnt undermine what Tennant did. Tennant did more for this show than any actor since William Hartnell.
He's not acting like David Tennant. He's acting as the Doctor. Two different interpretations of the Doctor. Just because he was rambling doesn't mean he's acting like Tennant. He's more like the 2nd Doctor than the 10th.
For those who replied to me, I am entitle to my own opinion as much as you are replied to yours. My opinion was based on a minute and a half of screen time and I could therefore only judge on what I had seen. When the series comes out perhaps he will surprise me and be completely different from what I suspect. Perhaps he will not. For those claiming he is better than DT how can you possibly tell from one minutes thirty seconds? There's no need to be so hostile. It's just a TV programme

@feckingbillgates lol good point, I still can't sit through any of his episodes. But I've listened to a couple of his audio adventures, and when he's actually got some good scripts to work with he is a very good Doctor. It's just the awful writing of his era that let him down.
loves the new companion, she is nearly as good as rose, but a bit better than Catherine Tate. And way so much better than Martha, never liked her. lol. Matt is good, nearly as good as DT but better than CE. I like the idea of Vampires. And the series is so good so far, I just hate that I have to record it because I am at work.
I don't know how anyone can hate on Eleventh hour, that was by far the best series opener by far since the series returned bak in 05 seriously i mean look at the rose episode I was embarressed to watch, series 2 new earth was very well done and series 3 smith and jones was brilliantly done, but then series 4 came with partners in crime and tht was garbage but eleventh hour owned the title of being the best series opener. And Matt Smith is brilliant as the doctor, atleast its back to the basics

I cannot recall any actor ever being so miscast on TV. It's a script written for David Tennant, he just looks so out of place in this. No emotional depth, just a sort of 'Rentaghost' performance. I think RTD was got the casting right for the main roles, Moffat is a good writer with a strong eye for visual images that will work, but that doesn't make him the person to cast or take charge of the show. With a poorer time-slot this year and this actor I fear a problem time ahead for Doctor Who.
Love matt smith as the new doctor, but i am finding series 5 flat, lifeless and boring. It's like there is something missing. It feels as if my favourite programme is slipping away from me, a real shame.......
I don't like him. He's cocky and arrogant and he's trying to be David Tennant. He started off that interview like David Tennant and he acts like David Tennant's Doctor. I am very disappointed.
The more I see of this miscast actor and his empty performance the more I feel very sad. I'm not of the view David Tennant was the best Doctor, but compared to any actor to play the role on tv this is a dismal failure of casting on the cheap combined with some poor scripting for the Doctor. No charisma, no impact, no depth, no Doctor-ness.

Like a lot of people, I've had reservations about Matt Smith and the new series but this clip goes a long way to putting my mind at ease.

finally I watch Doctor Who without dreading the Oncoming Emo. There's finally the promise of adventure with this new Doctor.
