Another great part to this series. I love the practicality of these movements. Even as you age you could still easily practice these movements and be able to perform them in a “self defence” situation when your life is threatened. Thanks again Sensei Ian for showing this series of movements and techniques from Choki Motobu. I look forward to the next part!
Hello, Abernathy, Sensei. I studied a karate style back in the 90's. We had a similar move/strike in one of our kata where you perform a low ridge hand strike to the groin, then rotate the palm up, and squeeze slowly (as you were describing in YOUR kata;). There was one particular woman, a blackbelt, that "interpreted" said squeeze to the groin just as you said you observed; one finger at a time;). Our Sensei playfully dubbed that move "The tickler"😅. It was all in jest, of course, and she laughed the hardest. We still to this day playfully tease her about her "curiously EVIL interpretation". One of my fondest memories of that Dojo! Thank you for all that you do, your channel, endless insights, including this series- I look forward to hopefully learning your excellent kata, and it's breakdown videos you've provided are most gratefully appreciated. Take care, and much continued success to you and your students!
I had good fortune to learn this and train with you and others in Roermond. Looking forward again to meet. We have continued using the drills, sometimes breaking down and comparing with parts of other kata's and drills. What is so fun is that the drills convey principles and methods and allow for variations. Very goju ryu I find but as you and my senseis argue it is all karate. Really worthwhile and a great contribution to training practice. 8:13
We always have to adapt to circumstances and my standard answer to questions around what to do when a technique in not available or appropriate is, “do something else”. It can sometimes sound flippant, but it is the right answer :-) Skill is doing the right thing at the right time.

Fantastic, informative and a delight to study.
I love the mutation of doctrine. Excellent stuff. Cheers.
Perfect and dynamics. Thanks
thanks Iain
Excelente!!!
All training dummies should have the squeezeable part down there so people can practice properly :D
Loving your posts, can I ask, what if you have no part to squeeze… inside thigh grab maybe? 🫣
