I own this amp and it is a pure tone machine as your demo so boldly shows. I've never played a VH4 or a Herbert but I sold my Soldano HR50 after I purchased the Diezel. Wasn't even close. The Growl that the Einstein has is just awesome!
The Einstein can get very close to that VH4 channel 3 tone, which is "the Diezel tone" everybody is after, since Tool and Metallica. I really love it with a Tubescreamer with the classic settings (vol up, drive down) in front to boost it. Amp Channel 1, Mode 3, Gain 2-3 o'clock, EQs at 1 o'clock, presence and deep at noon. Try that with your SC.
Totally not my bag but I gotta say, those are some amazing tones. Warm and buzzy heaven. And the way it cleans up from balls to the wall down to light blues overdrive on just the volume knob. That's crazy. Killer demo Leon!
I think this amp is pretty cool. It has this sort of alien character that would be really inspiring to use, cause it doesn't immediately remind of me of something that already exists.
Thanks for doing a video on this one! I've been curious about this amp for awhile since they can be had for cheap-ish on the used market. It sounds great man!
I can't believe the prices these have dropped to over the last few years. I used to own one around 6-7 years ago and they were $2200+ on the used market all day. Now they're going as low as $1100 on Reverb. I never thought it was worth it at the $2k price, but for $1100, absolutely. Nothing out there in that price can even touch it!
Remember this amp wasn´t meant to be Diezel heaviest amp at the time it was launched, for the brutalz you need to try the VH4 or the Herbie. I have the Herbert and is really verastile, beautiful clean channel (doesnt break up) that you can even play jazz with a hollow body, and channel 2 and 3 can hit you in the chest, thunderous lows if you want the heaviest chugs, its 180 watts so it can literally destroy your windows. After I got mine Rectos and Bogners never looked the same. Now with Friedman, Fortin KSR there are a lot more great options but at some point it was the baddest amp.
Beautiful work Leon 👍 You need to experience the VH4 I purchased mine about a year ago and it still excites me every time I’m about to flick that standby switch . I would be more than happy to give you a hammer through the beast as I live in Perth also .
Rivers Cuomo (Weezer) replaced his Marshall years back with a Diezel VH4. I think now he uses Kempers and profiles his Diezel. They have so much gain without sounding very dark. I've never seen this model, this is why I love watching your videos. Find new things all the time! With a name like Einstein it must be the smarter of two models!
dude i love weezer's tone! apparently Rivers bought another mesa mark i to use on the new record. same as the one from the blue album. so that'll be interesting if you uses the mesa and diezel for his rhythm tracks.
Alan K in the blue album it was all the mark I with a 6x10 Marshall cab. I think they used a fender reverb deluxe for the clean tones. Rivers used a jcm 900 shortly after on tour then at some point found the 6100 and started using that. Then got the diezel sometime after that. Now he uses the kemper with the diezel profiles and a fender Deluxe reverb profiles for the clean tones.
Alan K Idk about Brian bell but I do know all of the blue album was done on the mark i and cleans on the fender. Last I heard though, Brian was using a matchless live.
Awesome video! Thanks for your time doing that! I have this amp quite a while and it's a keeper for sure... Tip: If you connect any pedal (even without switching it on) in the parallel fx loop then the sound becomes harsher THEN you come closer to the VH4 3rd channel :-)
cool demo and a great amp, owned one for a little while ways back, you can mod the amp as well so you can switch the modes per footswitch instead of having to flick the switch each time, extremely useful, i was considering doing that for a while, before moving on to something else sounded especially nice with the single coils
Reminds me of Metallica "Load" era tone at the start. Wouldn't be surprised if they used some single coil guitar layers on those records for a bit of bluesy twang.
I had an Einstein and loved it but hated that the modes weren't foot switchable. Bought a Diezel Paul and love it. Can't wait to compare it to the Axe Fx lll Diezel amps ( my Axe Fx comes in tomorrow)! Thanks for the video, Leon.

Diezel's have a reputation for just being chuggachugga amps but this thing is super versatile and is voiced really well.
Diezel amps aren't 3 grand for no reason. I chose their cab over a Marshall 1960 and got it for $700. The Marshall was $900
