Glad to hear your opinion. I have the same set of rules and have the same issues. I thought it may just be me, but now to hear someone else has the same experiences, its validating to me. Thanks for the Video!
Thank you! I debated on sharing for a while. Usually videos are only positive stuff but we gotta be real some tools just aren't worth the hassle hahaha
Yes, I have the exact same issues with these Incra rulers. As a result I never use them anymore. I found something similar that works much better yet not as expensive. (It's a Woodpecker knock-off)
I use these things nearly every time I’m in the shop. For me, they are incredibly useful and I’ve loved them from day one. Just use .5 pencil but they do snap lead as you mention. They are incredibly accurate and relatively cheap. I’m surprised by your review because these things are one of my most used and most loved tools in my shop.
I like mine, but you do have to be careful with the lead and you have to use .5mm lead. I found holding the pencil at a lower angle helps with breakage. L Also, I like that the slots are exactly .5mm so there's no way the lead can move around when trying to make the same mark on multiple pieces.
Thanks a lot, Jamie. I have the little one, and I like it - but I hardly ever use it. Buy once, cry once = you buy it because you want it but you feel kinda bad about it. Alternative: cry twice, buy any two tools you want because that's okay. Thanks and best wishes from Norway.
Yo cuz I love mine I use a different lead Pental pencil with a harder quality lead rating for layouts or a starret scribe in my Incra layout grid I love my Tiny t 3” and the 12” often Mabey this will bring them back into play for you! Hopefully this may help you Mabey like them again lol! Regardless love your channel and content Go Plane Wellness! Keep up the amazing work!
I have just the 12" one and while I do find the pencil led breakage thing a bit annoying I find that annoying whenever I use a pencil and so it kinda just feels like it comes with the territory. I've also found that Setting the pencil in place and then setting your hand on the gauge and trying to not put downwards pressure on the lead helps a lot.
You kept yours longer than I kept mine. Got frustrated with them almost immediately, never mind Rockler didn’t even have a pencil to fit the marking holes. Sat on the shelf for a year after last use and offloaded at auction
Jamie, l too buy once. As a result of this, I don’t have many tools. But the ones I have are very best. Lie-Nielsen. I do some not so great things. But as soon as I get one, I donate them. Most of my not so great tools are my Dad’s old tools. I do like some of Woodpecker’s stuff, but so far the ones I haven’t been great. Maybe this square is the one.
That's where I'm at now too. Buy the best I can because it saves money in the long run. Or I guess get vintage and accept that I'll have to tune up and fiddle with them often. Starting out I couldn't afford the best of the best and had to slowly upgrade. I am still doing that a bit at a time but jumping from low quality to high quality vs low, medium, high hahahha
You changed your backdrop tool wall? Wish that had a video even if it was just discussing changes with photos. Looks like it happened around 5 videos ago.
I wanted to do a video but ran outta time and had to get them set up. I didn't build them, I bought them from a friend who was moving for cheeper than the lumber it would have taken to build them. Time is not on my side so buying was the best route for me (the price also helped convince me lol)
It sounds like your new Woodpecker's SS square will be a better fit for the way you work. However, it is unfair to say the Woodpecker's square does everything the Incra squares do, only better. The Incra squares have scribing holes every 1/64"! The Woodpecker's square doesn't provide nearly that level of precision. For most of us, Incra's 1/64" resolution is more than we often need, but it comes in real handy when it is needed. This super high resolution makes the T-squares a good match for laying out projects to be cut using Incra's super accurate fence systems, which using the fine adjust provides a 1/64" resolution. While Incra's T-rule's high resolution is its strength, it is also its greatest weakness. The 1/64" scale makes the rule harder to read. It also requires the scribing holes to be small, which makes them difficult to use. That is, the increased potential accuracy comes at a cost in terms of ease of use. In your case, the Woodpecker's SS square provides the right combination of resolution and ease of use. The same is often true in my shop. That's why I have rulers and squares that are marked in 1/16". Those get more use than the Incra T-rules. But, when I need more precision, those T-rules are very nice to have.
Very very valid points here. I can't say that I have needed to use the 1/64" precision on the incra since I have had them but I can see where they may come in handy from time to time. If you can find a pencil to fit in them 😉 really tho, thank you those are great things for people to keep in mind!
Yeah, I absolutely agree with you. A tool needs to help you and give you more options, not limit you on your work. But... As I'm a poor guy from Brazil and also a cheap b*stard, I buy my tools from China. 😂 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
@@BatCaveCreations Oh, anything shipped from there gets really expensive. 😕 Once I tried to buy some drone parts... It was around 20 dollars... But almost 100 dollars for shipping. 😬

@BatCaveCreations just rulers, vintage tri-square, and an old Starret combination square. These old tools work fine and remain square and accurate enough for me. I have engineering squares and straight edges but only use these to verify accuracy of other tools.
@anthonyseiver7000 I agree there I have an old Starrett combo square and love it! I don't see a need to replace it unless I want all my tools to match which tends to be a thing for me too ahhahhah

So based on another comment. I bought the drafting 5mm with different led….. game changer for the incra
