Not only is it a dumb comparison, but Austin laid into Moxley once upon a time to his face and it was hilarious. Moxley got into his own feelings and shut down.
Listening from New Zealand. Love Erics insight. Wcw was massive here in Nz in the mid to late 90s. Actually got me back into watching pro wrestling again after being too cool through my earlier High School years 😂 love it.
1:01:07 I have not heard the term “international object” since I was a kid watching on a wooden framed zenith on Saturday afternoons getting macho man elbows off the couch from my older brother and my mother screaming. Back then the tv remote was called “the clicker!”
Imagine thinking this is true, lol. Wanna play that game? Scott Hall showing up on Nitro and cutting a promo 'off the street' preceded Austin's KOTR win.
Taker staring down at the spot Owen died where the canvas is physically broken from the impact never gets any less harrowing. You can see the fear and upset on his face
I respect Eric for being honest enough to say he might have made the same decision as Vince to continue the show after Owens death if placed in the same predicamemt. The difference though is that given the ensuing fallout Eric and no doubt a bunch of others would have been fired from their jobs.Did anyone at WWE lose theirs? The faulty equipment waa obviously a major factor but not the only factor
What other factors were there? (( This question is not being asked with any aggression or mallice. )) And yeah, had this happened under Turner Broadcasting, WCW would have quietly vanished the next day.
Fair question. I think there waa an increasing disregard for the safety of wrestlers at this point. At the end of the day Owen was being paid to be a wrestler not a stuntman. I know he got some training and had done it before but that doesnt necessarily mean he was comfortable doing it or wanted to.As the doco makes clear Vince had a way of making life difficult for those who said no to him. Bret was a vocal critic of the company even before this which I imagine didn't make things easier for Owen. At the end of the day it seemed unnecessarily risky considering it was largely for laughs.Easy to say with hindsight though I confess. Sting doing it looked cool but I think he would have done just fine without it. Others with more extensive knowledge than me might be able to add to this but thats my 2 cents worth. Cheers.
As sad as it is was, what else could he do? Refund everyone there, hold the ppv next week instead, have a Owen dedicated filler Raw in between? Actually that doesn't seem too bad 🤔 I think Vince may have just wanted the ppv done so he and everyone else can process what happened later. It's a hard decision to make
the bit where Bret Hart says he thought WWE killed Owen to get back at him is pure EGO on Brets part ... one of the most self centred things I have ever heard anyone say
I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought Owens death could've been revenge for injuring Stone Cold, and maybe Bret was the cherry on the sundae. Now that its almost 30 years later many people don't understand what things were like, and what was all going on at the time.
Vince talking about their feeling that the audience is tired of having their intelligence insulted as if it wasn’t Vince doing the insulting and he was the audience saviour. 😂
If you watch this docuseries closely, and I mean VERY closely, I think you'll notice a very interesting dynamic between Vince and Stephanie. A lot of it, but maybe not all, is in this episode. Look at some of the pics of the two of them a little bit closer. There's about a 10 second clip where she's a very young adult, kissing him and giving him this look that just says....well, you decide. Vince's main skill was GROOMING human beings into "talents" that fit his whims and which he'd argue that he could capitalize upon. Sometimes that was more true than others. Vince was enthused when Stephanie was met with derogatory chants rhyming with "smut" as he explained it meant she was a hit. He admitted in this docuseries that he wanted to have a storyline where he fathered a baby by Stephanie. When it came to the "Vince's fantasies" that were presented as "storylines" I have to call BS. They were Vince's fantasies which he got off on by doing them in the ring or on camera in front of the world. Yes, he's that depraved. So, as this pertains to Stephanie, you figure it out. As for Shane, he was a decent guy and when he was vehemently against HHH and Stephanie getting together he was only parroting what his dad had preached all along. Shane got a Raw deal. HHH is in charge of the company he should've been running and all the other McMahons are gone from WWE. Given Shane's stance on their marriage, I kind of doubt HHH will ever bring in Shane for any kind of important role. ...Which makes me think that, if the opportunity ever arises and Tony Khan recognizes he's not well suited to be the "GM" or whatever of AEW, Shane should jump at any opportunity to step into a role like that with them. I mean, imagine the ripples that could send through the wrestling world and the fun Shane could have with the things he says, almost says, hints at and chooses not to say. That's not even considering his interaction with talent. Yes, having a McMahon as the storyline head of AEW, would be the biggest loogie ever spat into Vince's face...with all due respect to Bret. The fact it's Vince's firstborn son and heir apparent to the reins of power at WWE where nobody with the last name McMahon will ever be welcome again makes this idea, I think, an instant classic.
I agree on the video packages Eric BUT that Monster video for Daniel Bryan sure as hell pulled it off. I go back and watch it and I still get goosebumps! Eric's reaction to the AEW GM question is hilarious!
That's what I always said to even today. Austin doesn't have to wrestle. Never has. They just need to use him like driving a beer truck into the ring, or being a thorn in the side of management, etc. That's what we all remember most anyways.
That HBK segment where he stuck a "sock" in his pants DID make Vince create the Attitude Era. Bruce himself and many others have confirmed this. Why Conrad can't believe that is beyond me.

"InnoCenT UnTiL ProVen GuiLTy" has nothing to do with my feelings about Vince. It's just a basic human rights principle. Glad Eric at least believes in due process and hearing all sides of a story.
While I appreciate that it wasn't Owen's blood in the ring, the producers have obviously used the fact that 99% of the audience watching the documentary would have no idea about a dark match at Over the Edge, and used it for that effect. I kind of understood Vince's comments about the how the live audience had little idea as top what happened. I have heard that many in the front rows knew and left, but those in the upper levels would possibly not have any idea. I would have stopped the show, I base this on just looking at how the wrestlers were afterwards. That promo from Jeff and Debra is hard to watch. You can see the shock. And just the guys faces as they worked afterwards.
My biggest takeaway around the entire 6 episodes is that the producers created a narrative that Vince McMahon created his own reality to the point of delusion. I lost count on how many times McMahon would answer a question and the producers immediately rolled out footage stating the opposite was true. They called out his hypocrisy at every turn.
People need to remember, that Vince was trying to have Shane's match at KotR 01 ended. He absolutely would not have continued the show, had it been Shane. He didn't give a shit about Owen or the Harts.
The reasons (historically) why races aren't suspended or cancelled through history go back to 1955, the first time there was a mass casualty event (still the worst in history) at Le Mans. The decision was made as more or less 84 people died and another 150 or so were injured that if they stopped, suspended, or cancelled the race, the net impact is that the (rather small and rural) french roads would be plugged up with a bunch of people leaving the track, which would make responding to the medical incident (mass casualty) much more difficult for the quite frankly unprecedented medical services demand. Coincidentally, I've been to a motorsports event with a couple thousand people, and a guy died. The promoter cancelled the event for the night after everyone effectively watched the guy die in the dirt, and I had to quickly explain that while that was a good idea, what we really needed was the ambulance to get to the incident more rapidly. The on site medical was a joke at that event, and ultimately, the kid died. However, delaying the ambulance and medical staff in that situation adds to a bad situation. Elvis quite literally *needs* to leave the building.
Similar injuries (and outright deaths) did not prevent the completion of an NFL game in the past. Nowadays it really is true that Gen Z is more sensitive (during the Hamlin game, the coaches asked the players if they wished to continue... Prior generations of coaches would not have asked the players).
I don't know why Conrad doesn't believe the 'attitude' story. Shawn recanted it way back in 2005. He got fined, told Vince it was funny ( the whole segment had him jumping in JR's face and calling out Undertaker) he said it was two months later Vince told people they were going "there". Subsequently the WWF Attitude logo was created. People try to pinpoint the begining of the attitude era i always think they are wrong because it wasn't just one event, it was a series. Starting with "Pillman's got a gun!" Then to Bret swearing on tv in early 97, acknowledging Vince as the owner, to Bret and Shawn shooting on each other in interviews that spring, to Austin's whole routine, and all of it capped off with D-Generation X and the crotch chop that fall.
The beginning of the Attitude Era was not the nWo, considering the Attitude era is an exclusive defining era to WWE Conrad... wtf? Did the Flair era start when Bob Backlund won the title?
If you didnt think Bret was a self absorbed narcissist before this episode, this episode definitely proved it. Bret literally believed the wwe killed owen to get back at bret for going to wcw... lol just crazy. This documentary just shows vince loved the wwe more than anything else, including his own family.
Thinking that makes Bret self absorbed is a goofy ass take. If you’re having a giant dispute with your employer and that employer screw’s you over , and then your brother dies in a super weird accident with that same employer at the same time period … you’re Not going to Atleast have a thought of it? Come on
If it was £30 who would pay for a stream of all clips recorded for this doc of Vince. Feel like a lot of stuff fans would find interesting was left cut to focus on screwjob/attitude angle.
100%!!! What we have to appreciate is that Netflix has to be careful what they put out there whilst vince is being investigated. Plus they are in hot water over the Baby Reindeer series so are probably keen not to be involved in another possible lawsuit. But sure, I can see another episode or two once his investigation is over.
Love your show. Your commentary on this series is hands down the best. But Eric, you misspoke. When Damar Hamlin was hurt, they did postpone the game indefinitely. The game did not resume that night 🍻
The music comparison was a good comparison but wwf didn't just have 2 one hit wonders with Rock and Austin. They have their own greatest hit guts in Taker, Kane, Shawn, Triple H, Foley. Just below them you had teams like E&C, Dudleys, Hardys. I think because how far ahead Rock and Austin were, people forget how good the rest of the roster was. Add in Jericho, Benoit, Eddie. That's a lifetime worth of greatest hits
Of course they shouldn't have continued the show. It was a crime scene. How did they know it was an accident at that point. And even so, it's still a crime scene. Its unbelievable that it carried on, and they got away with it. Fuck your financial responsibility. It could have been a murder. Someone could have tampered with his rig. From a legal standpoint, there's no excuse or justification for carrying on.
Montreal Screwjob, I was sitting ringside behind Tito Santana and the “Spanish commentary” table which I’m not sure exists anymore but there was a time where Tito Santana was Spanish Jim Ross. I remember Bret Going Nuts I remember seeing Vince and knowing how RARE it was to see McMahon not being a commentator I remember Seeing this Rocky Maiavia. Anyway how much are 2 ringside Screwjob ringside folding chairs going for these days? I still have them.
I do agree I wish It did tell more about Mr. Mcmahon the person and not so Much about the business because everyone already knows about that but that's just my opinion
Im 44 nearly 45. I was a wrestling fan at the time tyson came in. And i didnt know he had been convicted of rape. Granted i didn't work for the company.
It's crazy how bret hart was part of several defining moments that changed wrestling forever. He's the goat. As for continuing the show after owen passing, if i was in full control of thought and emotion, i'd have cancelled the show. There are things more important than money. Let everyone in the arena know what happend, and refund tickets/ give them all tickets and re do the show another day. We are no longer human, if we can sit there comfortably supporting cheering on performers, an act, knowing some one just died for out entertainment. We owe it to owen and whoever it maybe , to give them respect and show dignity as human beings. Otherwise we are just souless. To devalue the meaning human life and say the show must go on.
The Opedius complex to since Vincent claimed to be abused as a young man. Did he sleep with him mom? When bears his chest and gives Shane a knife to stab him as the only way he's going to have say. We'll if you slept with your mother and then your dad comes in saves you from poverty. That's a bit of a lesson.
@56:00 the game stopped and was ended with demer Hamlin. Players and refs have died during games and the game was immediately stopped. Actors and crew have died during movies and tv shows. Production ceased immediately.
twice in a way he did continue with Shane McMahon. survivior series shane took a spear from roman that match didnt stop. and also wrestlemania shane got hurt. based on what played out had shane passed i can see Vince continue the show had it been shane. not saying im right or it would have happened. but i feel Vince would continue.
When it comes to the Mike Tyson knowledge that Stephanie seemed to lack, assuming she's being honest. One has to remember that she was a pretty young girl in the 90's when all that happened. These are men talking about a sports figure, and often times what seems very common knowledge to men isn't to young women. There's a large percentage of women who can barely name any pro athletes at all other than the absolute biggest of stars and even then some of them barely know anything about them, it's not the news they follow. And often what we men think of as a big star is of no interest to a girl at the age Stephanie was at that time. What's more surprising to me though is that 15 years later she wouldn't know that timeline. Looking back at my memory of it, isn't the Tyson WWE stuff after he had already come back, done a few fights, and then had the Holyfield ear biting incidents and was suspended from boxing? At her age it would be very easy to mostly know Tyson for his post prison stuff, and have been mostly unaware of him prior. I guess she just thought he was the boxer that bit somebody's ear.
I’d have to disagree with Conrad on when the attitude era started. June 23rd 1996 King Of The Ring Austin cuts the 3:16 promo July 7th 1996 Bash At The Beach NWO is formed.
Yes Conrad it's not always about 5 star matches...Austin was A FKN STAR and didn't need to be good in the ring.. Also I think it would have been more depressing if you sent people home immediately after the death of Owen. The last thing they would have remembered on their way home was being told Owen died. I'm sure they were DEFINITELY thinking about it but people at the arena may have not known all details until they got home unlike people watching on tv
I try to not listen to anything with Conrad, hes all about his connections to make money, but wanted to hear Eric on the Vince reviews. 2 things, greatest hits analogy was stupid, a song lasts forever in its form/feeling to you, while a specific match/moment can as well, but the performer watching in real time is continuing to get older/slower/same old while newer stars are raising more awareness, feelings, fresh matchups etc..Last I noticed, any classic stations, tv show networks, etc, dont exactly catch fire with ratings. .also you cant say the producers did Vince dirty when showing the clips contradicting HIS own words ( guns, rape, etc). This is what the corrupt political crooks do today " how dare you show my own words contradicting everything i say' Again, Conrad has to protect his revenue streams, as mainstream "news" shows do, so dont challenge anyone, may lose access to make our ratings and money, right Connie..
Streaming services literally became popular because they show the classic shows in bulk... Also, nostalgia has eyes of its own. Doesn't matter how old the star is, if you loved them you forgave all their faults
My buddies were at Screwjob ringside (but not Tv camera side) when Shawn and Bret ended up in the crowd fighting they kicked Shawn many times lol they made it to air on camera 😂 and today that kid is a multimillionaire in the souvlaki business and the kicking Shawn and Bret stuff still impresses me more lol😂
"Our father in heaven" is that anywhere in the old testament? No it isn't but it is in a scripture before Jesus the Bagavad Gita where Krishna calls himself our father in heaven.

The game did not resume that night
🍻
Good to see Honky Tonk Man in the documentry and hear his name. Honey Tonk Man would have laid the shit down.
You never go full Jerry Springer 😆
I do agree I wish It did tell more about Mr. Mcmahon the person and not so Much about the business because everyone already knows about that but that's just my opinion
Im 44 nearly 45. I was a wrestling fan at the time tyson came in. And i didnt know he had been convicted of rape. Granted i didn't work for the company.
They canceled the remainder of the game when DeMar Hamlin basically died, E.
SAWFT
@@dannyprovalone5110 or… fact?
Conrad’s an AEW mark mook
DX and The Hart Foundation kicked off the attitude era.
This 💯. Hart Foundation was the real beginning of Attitude
Attitude began in WWF when Pillman had a gun
Goldust was bringing in some crazy stuff a little before that. Mania 12 with Piper!
Sometimes I think Conrad and Brian are almost the same person lmao
Actually they cancelled that game with Damar Hamblin. Everyone went home.
Damnit I missed ANOTHER breakdown 🤦🏻
I believe more than half of viewers hate watched this some people who did have been very quiet since it aired because nothing new came out
I don't fully understand why Conrad doesn't just use a mic.
Conrad is large.
He's a solid whole milk consumer.
Eric and WCW look better after all of Vince's allegations came out...
When Damar Hamlin went down they actually canceled the game.
I’d have to disagree with Conrad on when the attitude era started.
June 23rd 1996 King Of The Ring
Austin cuts the 3:16 promo
July 7th 1996 Bash At The Beach
NWO is formed.
WCW was killed because it was losing tens of millions and viewership dropped. No one is going to cancel a successful show.
I like Conrad. I appreciate all he does for us. Thank you Conrad. 🎉
Conrad’s an AEW mark mook
you dont need to have an ad every minute. seriously makes it unwatchable
Conrads AEW fanboy is showing 😂
Vince continued the show after owen died. Because of. GREED. Cold hard cash. 💰 💯
Damar Hamlin situation the game got cancelled
Unsanctioned object???
Eric is starting to look very old and haggard
Did Vince experience Sexual abuse at the hands of his mother ?
Yes
yup
Let’s stop the cap. Austin is no Hulk Hogan…. Hogan is bigger than the sport. Also the top Goats of all time are Austin Rock Flair and Hogan.
Austin drew more money than hulk numbers and ratings prove it
Hulk Rules
Conrad PLEASE…. Don’t get up
TV The symbols for Mars and Venus. Our God is alive.
"Our father in heaven" is that anywhere in the old testament? No it isn't but it is in a scripture before Jesus the Bagavad Gita where Krishna calls himself our father in heaven.
What you talking bout Willis!
The NFL Damar Hamlin injury game was stopped and suspended.
